Hakuna Matada - Speedy September

Dave Mike and I are seriously considering the Nashville RnR next year. I want to do at least 1 RnR in 2012 and that one seems to fit the best. Is it on your radar at all?

Happy Wednesday, all,

I'm back to running again :woohoo: but only short distances and I'm not allowed to do any races until another check-in with the ortho.

Kim: I hope that you make Island Girl this weekend. Do you walk your races, or do a combination of walk-run?

Dave: glad to hear you are taking it easy for this session; maybe I could actually keep up with you if I was training with you today!

Vicky: I got a cramp just trying to visualize that exercise!

Happy training to everyone!

Today was amazing. I planned to take it easy and introduce another tweek to my race walking technique. I imagined I was a train and my arms were working the wheels of the train. With my arms making a motion like an elipticle machine, hips rolling forward as arms rolled back. It accomplished three things, first it brought my arms in closer to my body, it smoothed out my motion and it made everything work in better harmony. The result was that my training partner was having trouble keeping up while I felt very relaxed.

We did three sets of 20 min like this with a minute of slower walking between, then we did walking sprints of about 100m with a 25m recovery between each.

I really felt like I made a major breakthrough today.

Dave:hippie:

Hi team! Is it Wednesday already?

Kim - Aww! That's a bummer :( Can you and DD get a lift into the city? I'll send you a text. I checked out the ferry schedule and it seems like they have a ferry at 8AM and one at 9AM. I think if you don't need to use the porta potties beforehand and have no bags to check, you could go with the 9AM ferry. It would be tight though.

Dave - Yeah I'm in for Goofy! I may have to walk it (I think I say that about every race) but I paid and I'm coming to collect those three medals! I may have to do a lighter training schedule but I wouldn't miss it for the world. Now if the airlines could just get a seat sale going... WTG on all your training lately!

Elizabeth - That's awesome! I'm excited for you! I know it goes without say but take things easy :) Are you still coming to do the races in January?

Lynn - How are you and Scott doing?

AFM - I've got boot camp tonight and my trainer has offered to stretch me out in anticipation of Sunday's race. I hate stretching but I'm hoping that will help with my knee. I'm pretty sure the knee pain is 90% ITB tightness. Now if only I could find someone to help me with the KT Tape LOL

The eating is still going well. I think I've cut out most added and refined sugars and anything with sugar, I'm saving for the morning or my LR/cheat day. I hope the scale shows movement this week :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Elizabeth - That's awesome! I'm excited for you! I know it goes without say but take things easy :) Are you still coming to do the races in January?

Yes! I won't be able to make the Wine and Dine so I just have to get that Donald medal. My girls will do the Mickey Mile on Friday and I plan to do the half on Saturday. Not sure on our travel plans yet. Guess I better get busy!

Good luck with the stretching; that is something I don't do enough.

Hello team!

Dave - WTG on your race!

Kim - 2:45 is not slow, I would love to do a half in that time. Good luck at your race and in your training.

Elizabeth - Awesome, good news on your knee!

Vicky - Good luck at your race this weekend.

AFM - Things are going alright here. I've been getting some runs in but they've been pretty light on the mileage. I'm hoping to increase my long runs a bit. DH and I are going to DL this weekend to use up the last day on our tickets from race weekend. I'm excited because it's Halloween time at the parks and I love the Nightmare before Christmas overlay on Haunted Mansion.

Have a good night!

Emily

Hi team! I thought I'd give us a bump back up to the top of the page :goodvibes

I went and attended the last free bootcamp last night. Funny thing was there were even fewer people this time. I think it's because this Wednesday was a free bonus and people didn't realize it was free. So there were the usual stations - arms, legs, and weights Because there were fewer people, we got to rotate through the stations more quickly which means we got in more exercise. It's not a bad thing but I got tired by the 3rd rotation. I did manage to do almost 3 minutes of non stop crunches at the end. Although I'm not sure how good the last few crunches were looking :cutie: At the end of the class, my trainer said they would be continuing the classes next week for $30/session and anyone who wanted to attend should raise their hand. Well ... it was like crickets across the gym floor  The price they talked to us about in past weeks was $20 or maybe $25. We pointed that out to my trainer and he said he'd go back and talk to management. Other classes in the city - spin, yoga, zumba, bootcamp etc. generally go for $20/session so we'll see what happens. It's a good group of people so I hope they're more reasonable with the prices.

Emily - Thanks! I'm hoping for good weather! Have a blast at DL! I've never been there for Halloween :) Do they do a Halloween party like WDW?

Elizabeth - I know how it is. The flights for January just went on sale this morning. Sometimes I wish travel pricing worked a little more like races - the earlier you register/book, the bigger of a discount you'd get. Where are you planning to stay?

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

And I'm alive again, sorry for being MIA. Prices have dropped? I might have to take another look!

Thank you everyone for your supportive thoughts with my stalker issue. She's moved on, I think/hope. I've not heard anything in a week so that's promising. It's hard to do anything when the person doing it is in another country.

Emily: I use Galloway's plans, not religiously but as a base. I find they work ok but I started to incorporate Higdon's approach as well as I found I had less time to train due to other issues and Galloway's is really spread out.

Vicky: What do you do for speedwork? I'm starting up again and I really want to shave time off my previous races.

Elizabeth: My condolences to you and your family. I know the urge to eat at times like that, so kudos to you for doing something more positive to work through it.

AFM: I finally got approved for time off the January so I'm starting to train for the Donald worry-free-ish. Now I have to do all the planning. I think we're going to do a value resort this time, but we don't know which one. Plus, my parents have decided to come with us for a couple days to see me/us race (DBF is undecided still). Anyone have experience with ChEAR packages? They want to have seats at the finish line so I think we have to get them.

I'm trying to find DBF a sports-familiar doctor to go to for his shin pain while running. I don't think his current one is very organized or familiar with runners.

Is anyone dressing up for the January races? I'm trying to think of a good costume idea.

As some of you know, we said goodbye to my long time (over 23 years) pet turtle. We have given him to a reptile rescue foundation as we couldn't provide him with the things he needs anymore. I still miss him but I keep thinking he's getting more of what he should have now (like a nice warm sunning lamp :woohoo:).

Hi, all,

Couldn't get a run in this morning; rain, thunder, and lightning in the sky. So what did I do? Went to Dunkin Donuts for coffee and yep, doughnuts.
Hopefully, I can do a run this afternoon.

Happy training, everyone!

If it makes you feel any better, I did an all you can eat Chinese buffet last night. :sad2: I out ate everyone at the table, though whether I should advertise that or not...

I do that way to often myself.

Hi, everyone,

Thunderstorms here so I spent some time stretching. Vicky's earlier post reminded me that I don't do it enough so I'm happy to have taken the time this morning. Weather should improve tomorrow so I'll do a run then.

Saylan: Keeping my fingers crossed that your stalker has moved on. As for Fennel, I'm really impressed that your family was able to care for him that long. You all should be proud of that. Regarding value resorts, my BFF and I stayed at All-Star Sports last year for the Princess. It was quite fun because the place was packed with others running too. We met quite a few people, the room was clean, and the resort was close to the expo and to Downtown Disney.

Good luck to Kim and Vicky this weekend! Anyone else running a race?

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck to everyone who's racing this weekend!

September

25 - Island Girl Half Marathon, Toronto, ON - Vicky
25 - Island Girl Relay, Toronto, ON - Kim & DD

Dave: It's the only way to eat. I felt some guilt but I ran before it so it was minimal and I was able to enjoy it. :thumbsup2

Elizabeth: Thanks, me too.

I don't stretch nearly enough either. What kind of stretching do you do?

Yeah, my parents mentioned they didn't know when they bought him that turtles live that long. He was over 8 inches in length and weighed only slightly less than our adult house cat. Very large!

My Mom and Dad are going Value so we're considering it now too. They havent' been in 5 years so I need to try to keep an eye on them. lol They've picked Music right now but would probably be fine at any of the values.

My concern with the values is the double beds. DBF won't fit in them (he hangs over the end by about a foot). I know most of the king bed rooms are HC ones and so requesting one might not be honored. I'm just knowing though that if we got there and couldn't get a king bed, we can't really make do with a double just do to DBF's size. If I can solve this dilemma, we'll probably do values as well.

How do the buses work for them? Do the all-stars really share between them all? I was thinking of going for Pop just because it doesn't share with two other resorts. I'm also considering POR for the guaranteed queens.

Happy Friday everyone! I think there's some rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for dry weather on Sunday.

I reposted the weight loss challenge, so anyone who's in just let me know what your starting weight is and we'll go from there. I figure we can start with planks again as the bonus exercise. So the challenge is to get in 4 sets of 30 second planks, resting in between. And then there are the usual points ...

I'm down 1.2 lbs this week! Although I started carb loading yesterday afternoon so we'll see how that goes next week. But otherwise the eating has been going well - I'm getting in lots of veggies and trying to replace some fruits with extra veggies. I saw a woman on the bus this morning eating a tomato like you would a pear or an apple. I'm not sure I'll go that far but I guess that's one way to do it.

I had lunch with Sue yesterday and she's doing well! It was fun to catch up as always!

Elizabeth/Saylan/Dave - I'm another one who's done the bottomless buffet

Saylan - If I'm outdoors for speedwork, I'll go to the track at the local high school and run laps. I'll go as hard and as fast as I can for one lap and then walk or jog another lap and do it again. If I'm on the treadmill, I'll run at about 8.5 (not sure what that translates to in min/mile) for 0.25 miles, jog lightly for 0.25 miles and repeat. There are also other exercises in the gym that you can do - plyo, ladder exercises... People who play soccer, football and track also use parachutes outdoors and if you have a partner, you could tether yourself to them and try sprinting.

Sorry to hear about your turtle! I know how hard it can be to give up a pet  Do pet turtles typically stay around the same size or do they grow quite big? No plans for a costume in January ... what are you thinking of? Tell DBF to try a pair of compression socks or tights (I know) when he's running. I find the socks especially help with shin pain after a run.

Elizabeth - WTG on the stretching! Just think of the donut as carb loading for your run tomorrow :) Or maybe use that as your cheat day and eat clean the rest of the week?

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi Team!

I can’t believe I haven’t posted since 9/3/11! My laptop broke around that time so we had to take it in and they had to replace a part on it. It took about 2 weeks for us to be able to pick it up when we finally took it in. We just got it back yesterday. YAY! We have a small netbook, but it’s not as user friendly to me (screen is smaller, keys are smaller, etc.) so I did not use it more than I needed to.

Kim and DD- Good luck on your relay this weekend!!!! I hope you are able to train and reach your goals for WDW in January.

Vicky- Good luck on your half this weekend!!!! Congrats on your weight loss and getting your eating habits under control. That is awesome!! Good luck with your stretching. I hope it helps your knees. I think the exercise your trainer had you do sounds interesting. What day is your cheat day? $30 sounds like a lot for a single boot camp class. But then again, I’ve never checked out the prices either. But I would be much more willing to pay $20 than $30. Kyle will eat a tomato like that as well.

Saylan- Congrats on you and DBF finishing the DL half!!! Great job! I’m glad DBF is getting into racing and running. I’m sorry to hear about your stalker and glad to hear you have not had any problems with her this past week. DH and I will probably not dress up for January. Sorry to hear about your turtle.

Tandy- I hope school is going well and your leg is recovering well. Glad to hear you’re walking!!

Emily- The Cheesecake Factory is one of our favorite places to eat. I know their food is high calorie and fatty, but I enjoy it. When we go though, we usually go before 5pm and order off their lunch menu for the smaller portions. And then I would only eat half and save half for the next day. That way it wasn’t quite so bad as if I had eaten the whole thing in one sitting. We went to the one in Idaho when we were there a couple weeks ago and they had the new menu as well. Congrats on you and DH finishing the half and 5k!! And awesome job on getting a better time than last year! That is very exciting. I have not used a Galloway plan, but I am going to use his run/walking for our races in January and have been training that way. I also love the Halloween theme at the parks.

Elizabeth- I am sorry to hear about your cousin. I’m glad you were able to exercise and that it has been a positive way to address your grief. I also take rest days, and think the most important one is the day after your LSR. Yay for getting to run again!!!! That is great news!

Lynn- Do all cruises do a 5k? You have been really busy with grapes and peaches!! I bet everything you’ve made so far is delicious! My Granny’s grapes are about ready and I wish I were there to make some grape jelly myself. I was bummed that corn really didn’t do well this year either, so I will not be able to do corn.

Dave- Congrats again on your PR during your half last weekend! That is so great to hear! I am also very happy to hear your debit card was waiting for you after you realized you had forgotten it. Thank goodness the right person found it. Good luck to Sally in her training! Sounds like your tweeks are really working well!

AFM, my laptop has been fixed and I am happy to have it back. DH and I have been running, but I have been having some issues with my left shin. So, I have traded a couple runs for walks on the TM at a faster walking speed (around a 15-15:30 minute per mile pace) or the bicycle at the gym to give my shin some time to recover. I ran 3 miles yesterday and my shin felt ok, not quite 100% though. DH and I also celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary yesterday. :goodvibes

Good luck again to Kim, her DD, and Vicky!!! Looking forward to your RR’s!!

Have a great weekend team!!

Good Morning Team! Sorry to be missing in action - after our weekend in Colorado for the tour de vineyards - it rained on Saturday - never road in the rain before - it was cool, but not too cold. I am glad we drove the route the day before because the scenery was really nice - just not so nice during the rain! I was 25 miles, one long, long hill, but all in all a very nice ride. Scott stopped twice to help folks with mechanical problems. The shower provided at the local pool after the race was great! The wine fest was lots of fun, even for me - the designated driver. Monday we took our car into the shop for the hail damage repair, so we are without our normal mode of transportation for a week (still haven’t gotten it back, now they are saying Wednesday) (we still have the old little jeep to get around), so we decided to go camping. We got the camper ready and headed out Tuesday for the local State Park. We took the little jeep with us also as the kayaks live on top of it, but it was too cold to take them in the lake. It was actually very nice weather - just a bit cool. We spent 2 days just walking dogs and reading guide books for our upcoming trips (Hawaii in Jan. and South Africa in Feb.). Since then, it seems that I have just been busy around the house and have not made it to the computer.

Vicky - $20 - $30 a session sounds awfully high, or is a “session” a series of classes and not just one class? The Micky’s Not so Scary Halloween Party started at DL (at least, we went to one at DL before I remember hearing about it at WDW)

For weight loss challenge - well I have gained some weight - my start is 140 pounds. I will work on those planks!

Kim - Good luck on your race!

Dave - Congrats on your PR! No, Scott is not driving me crazy yet!

Regina - The 5K on Disney cruises is at Castaway Cay, although we have been on a few that have deck walking - but I don’t remember them being termed 5K. The peaches we brought back from Colorado - they were very good, and because they were very ripe, I made peach butter out of most of them.

Tandy - Good job on the walking!

Emily - I was disappointed that Haunted Mansion was closed while we were there, I also enjoy the Nightmare before Christmas overlay.

Saylan - Hope your stalker stays gone! Glad you got the time off in Jan for the races! We do not do the value resorts much (being DVD members) but I do know that their busses do run more often than the others - yes, they are always packed, but at bus stops you see them much more often, so I do not think you will wait longer, maybe even less time, for a bus. The compression socks might be an idea, I am seeing more and more of them at both foot races and bike rides.

Elizabeth - Congrats on getting back to running!

AFM - Weather has not been conducive to bike rides - too much wind - but yesterday I finally got down to the basement on the spin bike for an hour. Have not been eating very well, need to get that under control!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Saylan: Yes the All-Stars do share buses. We chose Sports so that we would be the first on and the first off. It worked well for us and I plan to stay there for the half in January. For the next Princess we have another runner joining us so we plan to stay at a moderate for the extra room. Of course, if one of us gets a pin code then we'll upgrade to deluxe.:thumbsup2 Perhaps you could pick a moderate close to the value that your parents choose? As for stretching, I'm doing a series of stretches intended to strengthen the core. Hope it works!

Happy 5th, Regina! Hope that shin doesn't give you any more problems.

Lyn, is the Africa trip ABD or through another tour company?

Can't wait to hear the race reports from Kim and Vicky.

AFM: Had my first "long" run this morning now that the ortho cleared me for it. 4 miles was all I could do without too much pain. Hope to get more mileage next week. Trying to be patient but it is indeed difficult to do.

Elizabeth - South Africa trip is AbD. Be patient, miles will come! Good job on 4 miles!

Good morning guys.

I'm going to try to get the yard done before the rain sets in, the grass is officailly higher than the dog so must get it done. Then walking with Sally and after that I'm having her video me doing speed intervals so I can study them for technique improvements.

I was sore all over yesterday, the half marathon and the hard training week finally caught up with me. I feel good today though.

Lynn, I'm starting to wonder if we are going to see you guys anytime soon. Your not doing January and we probably won't be able to swing another Disney trip next year.

Kimmer, Vicky, you guys looked strong in your picture at the half marathon. How was your times.

Have a magical Sunday y'all.
