We're headed down in less than 3 weeks, and we've been telling the kids we're going to get their hair cut on Main Street. DS4 thinks Mickey is going to cut his hair! :p What I'm now worried about is a huge wait for haircuts that will take up too much time. We have 4 kids, so that means 4 cuts/trims.

Has anyone had experience with this? We plan on going on a Thursday. Is any time of day better than another?

Many thanks!!!

I would say the earlier the better. You can do a search here on the DIS from others that have visited the Barber shop.

With 4 haircuts in your family, and if this is a priority for you, I would get to the barber shop when they open. Sometimes there is one barber, sometimes two barbers, it depends on the schedule.

While others are running for Space Mt., you should be running for the barber shop!!! It's right there, to the left as you come under the railroad station. Over by the firestation. Get there really early if it's a top priority to get your kids done on the same day. If you're lucky you'll be first in line and both the barbers will be there. My dd has had Michael give her her back to school haircut for two years now. In fact, my hairdresser went to WDW two weeks ago and just had to check out where dd has been getting her school cuts done!! She says she stuck her head in, looked at Michael who's photo she had seen and told him to stop stealing her customers!!! Too funny. Be sure to have that camera out too.

THe whole haircut thing was over-rated. There is only two stylists working, no Mickey Mouse. THe women wore old-fasioned skirts and had little personality. I imagined the barbershop quartet, which I understand sometimes makes an appearance, but no go. We went in the afternoon, so it was crowded. The line was longer than I expected, because it wasn't just the kids waiting, it was their parents too. I'm glad I can check it off my "to do" list, because I did want to try it. I've read on these boards that first thing in the morning is the quickest.

I don't know that I would call it over-rated. I try (I don't always find the time) to my my haircut on every trip. Michel does a great job and the price is reasonable. Everyone in the little town I live in went to the same beauty school, all the haircuts look alike :(

I do try to get to the Disney barbershop first thing in the morning.

In 1999 when the Bafbershop was in the middle of mainstreet, DH was getting his haircut when the Barbershop quartet came in and sang. It was great. A few years ago, he tried again and the wait was over 1 hour and the quartet did does not start in there any more. He now always asked for a mickey with pixie dust in his hair, when getting a cut. You have to get their first thing in the morning or expect the wait. I am not sure if they open when the park opens or not, so check with guest services.

When we arrived at WDW on 11/4/04, the first thing we did was go to MK after checkin. My son (nearly 2) desperately needed a haircut and we had done his "1st haircut" there in January. So we decided to checkout the line. It was 4:30 pm and they close at 5. There was one person waiting, and 2 people currently being done, by the two "regular" haircutters - a man and a woman - I wish I could tell you their names - VERY nice. We were in and out in less than a half hour with a blue headed, mickey sparkling haircut, two happy kids (my dd 6 got mickey dust too) and it was the PERFECT way for us to get in the WDW spirit. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

My hubby was getting his hair cut for my birthday. We were there right at closing too. In fact the male barber asked me to make sure no one else got in line. I think you were the last ones to go? It was so fun watching the little ones get their first haircuts!

No personality??? Hardly. Michael chased after my dh in order to 'pixie dust' him!! My dd had had her haircut and dh didn't want to get his done, but Mike decided that dh needed a little something...so he charged after my dh, right onto Main St....showering him with blue pixie dust!!!

We also found out that most of the CMs use these barbers. There were several waiting in line with us!!! I figure that we wait in a line at Test Track for an hour, why not the barbershop???

It's great for a first haircut. Michael was wonderful making our youngest feel comfortable, and it was a great haircut. I don't know if it would be worth the wait for all 4 kids. Our 4 year old didn't really like waiting and it wasn't a special moment for him like it was for his younger brother. The barbershop isn't decorated to appeal to kids. It's one of those old fashioned barbershops--lots of charm, but it may be lost on kids. One good thing about going first thing in the morning is they had many characters just outside signing autographs. Maybe older kids could do that while someone else gets their haircut.

The barbershop is great. My suggestion is to be there when the parks open and go for the haircuts first thing. My oldest DD loved her haircut!

We went mid-afternoon during a slow time (early Feb) and had maybe a 1/2 hour wait. I viewed it as a rest break. Maybe bring a snack and let the kids sit on the curb outside (with one parent) having a break while waiting. It was fun and my son is looking forward to another haircut there next month.

T&B

My sons look forward to this every time we go. They'll forego their usual haircut just so they can get pixie dusted at the barbershop.

In February, we were the only ones in the room at the time, and the Dapper Dans came in and saw my son's birthday pin. They sang him a birthday song just for him. They must've spent at least 20 minutes with just us! It was such a great feeling.

The best part about the barbershop isn't the haircut! It's the comments from CMs, visitors, and even the characters when they see the boys' hair full of pixie dust. They got noticed more and they certainly enjoyed the extra attention.

I would hardly call it over rated. I tend to get my hair cut there each time I go. I'm going down in two weeks and I'm trying to hold out to get it cut again.

We're taking my son (he'll turn 2 while we're there) and we're going to get his hair cut there as well. Can't wait.

Each time I've done it Michael was the guy who cut mine. He's got a LOT of personality. He's a lot of fun. One time he gave me pixie dust and the last time he painted blue Mickey Ears on the back of my head (I keep my hair SHORT). You can't believe all of the comments I got walking through the park that day!

I tend to go right there first thing in the morning and have never waited more than a few minutes. The prices are more than reasonable and it's a lot of fun. I tell all of my friends to do this when they go down to DW.

Okay...I'm REAL excited now!!! We'll just do it right as we get in MK. This will be our last day, so we should have already seen most of the characters. I'll have to tell DS4 that Mickey will be sending his friend Michael to do the cuts...DS's name is also Michael, so he'll probably be okay with that!

Thank you all!!!

I'm so excited about getting DD's first haircut at Disney World. I only hope there is a lady there when we go....DD has a boy phobia.

I'm sorry to say that I don't remember the name of the madam barber (barberella?) who cut my hair on my birthday (10/25). We went near the end of their day and had a fairly short wait. She was great and we had a great time.

I'll be getting my haircut there again during our holiday trip on 12/9 (this time without the coloring, sparkly stuff or the mousse mouse on the back of my head!).:smooth:

Michel, Maura and Billie are the primary barbers. Heather seems to work part time. There was another part time barber whose name escapes me.

had his hair cut there.

They gve him a "first haircut" mickey hat, even though it was his second (ssh!).

Not much of a wait in January...
