:D Thought I would try one more time for info on hairbraiding.

Everybody who responded to my last post seemed to have been on the 7 day cruise. I need help from 4 day cruisers. I know we don't want to spend our Castaway Cay time having this done.

What I want to know is this:

1)Do they braid hair on the at sea days on the 4 day Wonder cruise?

2)Where should you and shouldn't you have it done in Nassau? Either due to cleanliness or pricing.

3)My daughter has long VERY thick hair. We would not want to do her whole head just the cornrows in the front and leave the back down. What is this style called and how much do they charge for this typically?

4)How long do the braids remain in?

Our DD has had her hair braided in Nassau twice. We went to the braiding pavillion. As you cross over the walkway from the ship into town it will be on your right. You really can't miss it. It is an open-air pavillion but they have running water.

DD had the headband style done each time and it was $20-30. Do bargain with them and walk away if they do not come down in price at all. They *will* call you back.

DD left the braids in 2 months each time and had little to no hair damage. Just shampoo as you normally would but rub the shampoo over the braids and then rinse.

Oh, and make sure to bring some Q-tips so you can put sunscreen between the braids.

On our last cruise as we were heading back to the ship in Nassau we did see the hair braiding area. We weren't interested at the time but one woman gave us her "card" which was her name written on the back of a matchbook cover. My husband still has this, he found it so amusing. Anyway, I thought I read somewhere somebody saying don't do it in such and such a spot in nassau do it in this other spot ( I don't recall exactly where) so I wanted to make sure it was ok to do it where you are recommending.

The price that you are paying seems very cheap compared to what I have seen others posting...usually $50+ after bargaining. Is the "headband" style the one with cornrows in front and hair down in the back?

Thanks!

HA! I thought I was the only one who thought their "Business card" was funny... They gave me one on the back of a Bacardi Rum box. :) I saved it to put in my honeymoon scrapbook. ;)

I got my hair braided in Freeport when we went, the lady charged me $40 to do just the front top cornrows with the rest of the hair hanging down (it was like always having a headband in, I LOVED it- and am planning on getting my hair done like this again on my June cruise)... Definitely try to bargain with them! They'll come down if they know you're serious about getting it done.

Mine stayed in about 1 1/2 months - and the day after we got home from the honeymoon, I went to the RMV to get a new license, and in my picture I have the Honeymoon braids, so I'll always remember :)

I did, however, lose a LOT of hair when I took them out - it wasn't a "loss" however, it's just the normal amount of hair you lose on a daily basis, it just had no where to go b/c it was in the braids. But BOY did I make a good pile of hair. :)

I have heard that you should take your own comb because of the risk of lice, etc.

What kind of comb do the braiders need?

CRB,

I've heard the best kind of take is one of the "rattail" combs. The ones that are half comb and half long, thin handle. Hmm... not sure my description makes much sense, but if you saw one, you'd know what I'm talking about... heh. You can get them anywhere.

Hi just got back yesterday and I did mine at Castaway Cay. I had the cornrows done in the front only and it cost me 32.00 I only put the rubberbands only and not the beads because of work. I like the fact that my hair is not in my face. I had braids with the beads done for my 18 month daughter at Blue lagoon and those came out great. The only thing is that the ones done in blue lagoon came out better on her than the four that I had done in Castaway Cay. The prices in Castaway Cay are 2.00 for a cornrow and 1.00 for a braid.

By the way if you have beads put in your hair and your hair is thick it will be more than if you just put in rubberbands.........

Hope this helps........

Did I read earlier that you could have it done on the ship (7 day) for the same price as on land. I have a 5 year old who wants to do it and I would be more comfortable getting it done on the ship - plus it doesn't take away from time on land.
Is there a long line/wait to get it done?

Well at Castaway Cay it only took the lady that did it for me about 20 minutes she was good and fast.............There was no wait for us.........

I have heard of others saying 1-1 1/2 hours. Also, you mentioned something about "four braids" for your daughter. They couldn't do the whole front of my daughter's head in four braids, it would take many more I believe. I have heard others say the wait on the boat is pretty bad, but haven't heard about the wait at Castaway Cay before. No wait sounds good but we really don't want to waste any Castaway Cay time on it.

Sneaky, thanks for answering!

Can anyone tell me if they do or they do not do hairbraiding on the ship on a 4 day cruise?

I didn't know they did the hairbraiding on the Blue Lagoon. Is it the same price as Castaway Cay?? Did it look clean?:) I always hear people say watch out for head lice on Nassau and Freeport but has anyone actually gotten head lice from these places? My 13 year old daughter wants her hair braided so bad and I hate to see her wait for hours on Castaway Cay and miss out on the fun of the island. We are booked on the Blue Lagoon beach day and it would be nice to get it braided there if it was possible! Thanks Sneaky :D

hi!
come early to hairbraiding on the ship if they have it and I mean real early! don't do the historical naussa thingy!

Sonya Francisco: you said << but haven't heard about the wait at Castaway Cay before. No wait sounds good but we really don't want to waste any Castaway Cay time on it >>

Well, I waited a little over 3 hours in line to have me hair braided on Castaway Cay, and I got the headband style with the braid going all the way down. It took about 30 minutes. The people that took about 1-1 1/2 hours probably got their entire head of hair done.

My daughter had her hair braided at the straw market in Nassau last January and it cost $25 (about half of what it was at the hair braiding pavillion). The lady was very clean and ever so humble and nice. I was happy to give her the money... we just asked at the straw market if anyone braided hair and this person was recommended. She was upstairs.....
have a great trip....
