My granddaughter wants to get her hair braided. Do they do this on the ship? How does the price compare to the islands? Seem like it would be more sanitary. Do you need to sign up for this?

My daughter and I just had this done on castaway cay.

It was $1 per braid and $2 per cornrow..or the other way around.

We had braids...they were so tight..we had to take them out before dinner that night. My daughter said..it isn't suppose to be this way....I will never do it again. That was $100 not well spent.

We are having my DD done before we even leave. You may be able to find a hair salon in your town that does it, that way you are not wasting time sitting for an hour getting your hair done. Good Luck.

Don't forget to put sunscreen between the rows, or wear a hat.

My DD had it done (Just the cornrows). Her total was something like $35 including tip. It is tight, but it stays nice and keeps their hair out of their eyes with all the swimming they do.

I had a local shop do DD's hair before a camp she went to, and the braids came right out.

And I agree with the sunscreen! That exposed scalp burns easily. We usually use the coppertone sports spray cause it's not so messy.

My DD4 had it done on CC. It was around $2 per braid for the 'half head'. It did hurt while it was getting done, but it looked great. And, it stayed in for a good 3 weeks. We took it out in the shower with a bunch of hair conditioner and it was ok.

I would try and have it done on the ship. We saw in St Marrten and St Thomas girls that had it done and they wrapped the bottom of their hair with tin foil. The girls on the Magic were still using rubber bands. It made a huge difference in how it looked and from what we saw how it stayed, we saw a lot of braids coming loose and falling out by the end of the cruise. My girls have always had this done in the past but chose to skip it this year and said they won't do it again. it is a pain to get the braids out of their hair, and they thought it damaged their hair

My DD had her hair braided on St. Martin. I was able to barter the woman down and paid half of what the girl next to us paid. Be sure you know the price before they start and figure it out in your head. It can get pretty pricey.
