Guranteed connecting rooms?

I didn't get my connecting room on my last trip, just a few weeks ago. So you do have a valid reason to be concerned. My fingers are crossed for you!

I have a coworker who went to WDW July 2008 with her sister, the sister's daughter and son-in-law, and the daughter's six kids. They requested two connecting rooms and requested that the third room be close by on the same floor at AS Music. The plan was to have the three y/o sleep in the room with the parents, the four older boys together in a connecting room to the parents, and my coworker in a room with her sister and the 13 y/o daughter. When they checked in, not only did they not have connecting rooms, but all three rooms were on a different floor and no where near each other. They were in the same building though. They asked at check in to be moved. They were able to get them all on the same floor, but did not get connecting rooms. The 13 y/o daughter round up in the same bed with the three y/o in the room with their parents. My friend was in a room with two of the boys and her sister in a room with the other two boys.

That's funny; last year I was in a corner room at POR (king bed room) on a solo trip and it had a connecting door to the next room.

And it was the week after Thanksgiving and they were booked to capacity.

In my experience of checking into a WDW hotel 5 times with 2 adults and 4 kids we received connecting rooms every time. Try not to worry too much about it. It will likely be fine and if not there is nothing you can do to fix the situation until you arrive. They want you happy -- happy customers leave money in the world and return.............. Spend your time getting excited!!!!

Thanks a bunch for the responses. I'll make sure not to stress out about it. We're checking into the Wilderness Lodge next Wed (Nov 16) and are staying for 6 nights. According to the Disney rep and a few websites, we check IN during a very low crowd period, so I'm hopeful we can get the connecting rooms we asked for. I could handle adjoining or across the hall, as a last resort since the two oldest (12 and 17) could stay there. The two youngest (10 and 7) will stay in our room.

This is our first trip ever there and we're very excited.

One of the adults would have to be registered in the room with the 12 and 17 year old.

The reason so many of us harp on the fact they are not guaranteed is to make sure people have the knowledge they need. Disney will do what they can in meeting your request for connecting rooms. However, things can happen that are even out of THEIR hands that could make that impossible. I always feel it is better to know the worst that can happen and to plan around that then to now know and be surprised when you get there.

So now you know... and knowing is half the battle. :lmao:

Yes. Disney won't let underage children occupy a room all by themselves. And adult must be booked into the room with them. In theory, they would expect that you and your spouce would sleep 1 in each room. I doubt that they do bedchecks, but an adult would have to be listed as staying in each room.

I'll let (some of) you in on a little "secret"

It is Florida law that families must be in connecting rooms in case of fire or other emergency.

With that said, it depends on the ages of everyone and how many people eir are in total.

I can tell you that out of my 3 trips with more then 1 room we have been broke up once.
We had 2 adults and 2 kids in the room so they could break "us" up since the whole "family" fit together while the other rooms where adults.

In your case you are going to be connecting though because the number of adults and kids forces them by law to put you in connecting rooms.

That's what they told us when we booked. So My hubby and I are split up for the rooms. I'm listed with two kids in one room and he's listed with 2 kids in another room.

She has two adults and 4 children, so they could put one adult and two children in seperate rooms.

They don't have to guarantee that Mom and Dad are together.

If, by some remote chance, you are not given connecting rooms when you check in, ask very nicely if you can be moved the next day. The odds are almost 100% that they will move you. It's a bit of a pain to move, but it sounds like it would be worth it.

Exactly how they will book and set up rooms, but by law they must give here connecting rooms
It's against the law to split immediate families in case of emergency
Immediate families must have access to their family (if requested) incase of fire

On my case they could split us because my "family" was 2/2
The others where family but not immediate (spouse, kids)

I was told that the only truly guaranteed connecting rooms were for one parent staying with more minors than room occupancy. For example, one mother with 5 children over age 3 but under 18 staying at pop century. However OP, I think more than likely you will get connecting rooms. We received ours in october for 4 adults and two Disney infants.

Can you post a link to this "law" as I have never heard about it?

Nope, not guaranteed. It actually happened in the past to a board member. She was unable to get connecting rooms when she had minor children that outnumbered single room occupancy levels.

This was by the cm that checked us in in October. So what did they do since minors aren't allowed to hace their own room? Btw, I couldn't find that law either.

I'll look for it, but I know it's true as my friend is a cm and confirmed it after I asked
She even went on to say that adjoining rooms don't count if you speak up about it, they must be connecting with a door to each so you don't have to go outside
And finally it is a law in Florida that if they overbook the hotel they must make reasonable attempts to find you another room or get fined
Disney kinda covers them self on that end since the fine print says you are not booking at a specific resort but on property

Edit here is the overbooking law mentioned http://www.enotes.com/everyday-law-encyclopedia/hotel-liability

I know this was asked before but now that we're 9 days away from our trip and did o ur on-line check-in yesterday, I'm still nervous. When we booked, the Disney rep said they "guaranteed" us connecting rooms b/c there are 4 kids and 2 adults. Our reservations on the Disney site also say "guaranteed connecting rooms".

However, DH called last night to try and check us in over the phone. The Disney rep said they will "try" to get us connecting rooms but they assign rooms until 3 days before we arrive and they won't tell you in advance which rooms you have.

Should I be nervous about them NOT accomodating us? We were told that we're checking in during a very "low" time, so I'm hoping it's not a problem.

Oh, we're staying at The Wilderness Lodge

NO resort will guarantee connecting rooms--because they know law says an adult has to be in each room with anyone under 18. best is to do what you have done and just really push for 'connecting" rooms. we have to when our Mother goes with us as we have to help her and is much easier to be able to just throw on a robe and go into her room as to walk outside and next door or down the hall:thumbsup2

Anybody know which resort has the most connecting rooms?
