We are from the west coast and our favorite Disney meal is the Steak Gumbo in a sourdough bread bowl that we get in New Orleans square at Disneyland. Does anyone know where I could find something similar in WDW?

My favorite Disneyland meal too! I haven't seen it browsing the menus but hopefully someone "in the know" can give us both an answer.

I had more than a decade's experience with Disneyland's gumbo (and my favorite, clam chowder) in sourdough bread bowls before going to Disney World. I have to say, even if you do find the gumbo, it won't be the same. The kind of sourdough that Disneyland patrons are used to just doesn't exist in Disney World.

I haven't ever had the gumbo you are talking about, but I do know that I had a wonderful seafood gumbo at Boma one night. I make a lot of gumbo at home, from duck, to crawfish, and everything in between. I thought it was excellent. The recipe was available on AllEars and I have even made it at home and got excellent reviews. I hope you find somewhere that has something similar! If you do, please let us know. It sounds really wonderful!!

House of Blues in DTD has gumbo. It is not exactly the same, though. It is turkey and shrimp gumbo.

Hmmm, haven't heard what I'm looking for yet. I would love to try your suggestions but I have a shellfish allergy. Anyone else?

Turkey?? Good grief. Not in gumbo. Chicken, sausage, anything that swims, but not turkey.

Oh, I agree. I am originally from south Louisiana, born and raised there until we moved due to DH's job in 2002. Gumbo is a staple with me and my family. It is even my annual Christmas meal. I love it. I make chicken and sausage gumbo, not turkey.
I knew that House of Blues had Louisiana style food so I checked their menu for the OP. That is what I found so I passed on the info. I didn't recommend it; I have never had it. But it is gumbo, none the less.

Lulu Buffett (Jimmy's sister) has a restaurant in Gulf Shores, AL and has an awesome cookbook out with several different gumbo recipes in it. On of those is an after Thanksgiving Turkey Gumbo. It is fabulous! We use the turkey carcass and left over turkey from our deep fried Cajun turkey and it is truly delicious!! Don't know about the one at the House of Blues though!
