Ok, so I am obviously Irish. The flaming red hair, pale skin covered in freckles, the whole nine yards. The only thing I am missing is the charming lilt that I love to hear spoken so much. So what is more Irish then a pint of guinness right? It may sound corny but I have always wanted to try one, and since I won't make it to Ireland anytime soon, what better place than Downtown Disney's Raglan Road?! My question is, can I just go in and get one, or do I have to stay and drink it with a meal or at a table? May sound like an odd question but we are travelling with our 3 kids and another family that also has
3 kids, and no one but me was interested in this place on this trip, so I just wanted to be able to get it and go, so I don't inconvenience anyone else. BTW you may have guessed I am not a big drinker. I am 30 and have never even been to a bar. Just not my thing, so that is why this may sound a little silly to some. Any info is greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure you can get it to go ... but I know there are two outside patio areas at Raglan Road with bar areas. There is a counter service area (Cookes of Dublin) that serves soft-drinks and desserts, so you could keep the kidlets occupied while you finish your Guinness.

(Public Service Announcement from another Irish lass). :thumbsup2

You can pretty much buy a beer anywhere and carry the drink around Pleasure Island with you. Enjoy!

Not to hijack the thread but - Patt, we also live in Clermont and can "hear" Wishes from our lanai - lucky you:rotfl2:

Or you could buy one at the grocery store at home and drink it? ;)

I love Guinness but if you're not a big drinker, you may not. My DH hates it and always makes a face. Since it's $$ at Raglan Road, you may end up tossing it.

I'd get it at RR and just walk PI with it.

Live and learn -- I wasn't sure you get a to-go Guiness (or Harp) from Ragland Road.

P.S. Our neighbor's tree threatens Wishes view in a couple of years ... Round-up, anyone? (Just kidding, just kidding) ....

I really don't know if you can get a beer to-go from raglan road. There are a couple of outside bars at RR, maybe you can get it in plastic from there. There is no problem with having open containers at PI or DTD as far as I know.

I'm not a big drinker either and don't care much for your average bar. But raglan road is so much fun, especially after 9pm on any night that isn't sunday. The band is great. I think you will really be missing out if you don't experience it. It's reasonably kid friendly as well, I've seen toddlers rocking out to the music there before.

I know you can get a guiness to go from the rose and crown in epcot, but to an irishperson, that might be sacrilege.

You *sure* you're Irish? :goodvibes :rotfl:

If, by chance, your first taste of Guinness isn't a good experience, get yourself a savings account labeled "let's go to Ireland" and make it happen. It is SO much better when you're in Ireland, and there is *nothing* like the feeling of being in the place of your roots. I started crying when I landed at Shannon and felt more at home in Sligo then I've ever felt anywhere in the States.

Check out my avatar...DS is 1/4 Korean...the Irish genes came through strong in his little red-headed being!:goodvibes

I agree and the Guinness tastes like chocolate milk, well I think it does!! Not carbonated, not too cold it was just wonderful.. The best mussels I every had was in Dublin at the Brazen Head and Banoffe that was the most wonderful dessert.

Love the red hair

Also if you are going to Epcot you can get a Pint there and I know you can walk around with it

Yep I am Irish. Got married and started a family before I was 21 and by the time I could go to the bar, I decided I would rather go somewhere with my kids. My family says the same thing to me....Oh well, such is life :shamrock:

Well, you should surely try to get to Savannah's St Paddy's day Celebration, which usually last a week, with the 3rd largest parade in the US. And a party on River Street to rival Mardi Gras! Just Google Savannah and ST Patricks day.

As to the Guinness, I am not a big fan...tastes like burnt coffee to me! But I do love Killians Red.

Seriously, tho, we do have an awesome ST Patricks Day here down South.

Saw the post and had to read it :rotfl2:

This is all my DH drinks when it comes to adult drinks ;)

He was able to get it on tap at the rose and crown and that thrilled him to no end!!! They also had the guiness cake.... he said it was the best dang cake he ever ate :rotfl2:

Sorry I can't help you on the the rest as we never hit DTD... but wanted to let you know Rose& crown has it on tap :woohoo:

Guinness beer is a bitter beer.
The comparison to chocolate is not unfounded.
Do you like bitter Dark Chocolate (70 * cacao) or sweet milk chocolate.
I like dark beer but not Guinness.
The German Spaten Optimator is bitter like Guinness...but I prefer the Warstien Dunkel. It is dark and sweet.
Your best bet with children will be to purchase your beer at Epcot world showcase and enjoy it while walking the park.
For a true Pub experience, you can take the family in to Raglan Road but you'll be to busy parenting to really enjoy it.

I'm Irish and sorry folks, but I don't like Guinness, not one bit! DH loves it...I think he died and went to heaven when we toured the Guinness brewery. And he's more French-Canadian and Indian, but we are both mutts  If you aren't much of a drinker, you might like Smithwick's better - it's a red ale from Kilkenny.

Just saw your post and had to mention...we walked across Dublin from the Grand Canal Hotel to go to the Brazen Head...and had a few pints on the way...and a few pints there...gave up halfway walking -- staggering -- back and called a cab. Driver didn't know where the Grand Canal Hotel was, but he sure knew how to find Kitty O'Shea's pub that was on the premises :rotfl2:

Raglan Road is best experienced in the evening when the music gets going. You could plan a dinner there -- quite a few good choices on the menu! The bread pudding was... :cloud9: I'm calling tomorrow to see if I can get a late ADR there for my birthday in September!

Ah ya can't beat a nice pint of Guinness although I wouldnt be drinking too many of them, its nice if you're just going for 2 pr 3 pints ha.

Oh the Brazen Head is the oldest pub over here in Ireland it was started in 1198 quite a long time ago eh :-)

Yep, that's why we had to go there -- and it was well worth our drunken stagger across Dublin :rotfl2: Food was pretty good, too. The Guinness here in America isn't as good as the Guinness there in Ireland -- we were told it has to do with the preservatives they have to add to ship and sell it here.

In your visits to WDW have you stopped in at Raglan Road? Probably wouldn't be as thrilling for you since you have the real deal at home, but still a fun place anyway :)

1198, Yep saw that when I wacked my head on the doorway at the Brazen head, that was a little entrance. For those of you who dont like Guinness give it a try in Ireland totally different. Now the Irish Coffee I had at the Brazen Head, I think I am still feeling the hangover 2 years later...

I love Ireland, its a wonderful country. (IMHO)

Hmm, I like dark chocolate AND milk chocolate. I haven't found a chocolate I didn't like. ;) And I wonder that since I'm immune to the effects of Beverly at Club Cool...if that explains why I didn't find Guinness excessively bitter.

For years I've been too intimidated to try Guinness because it was "dark". But in October, I tried a beer flight (Harp, Bass, Smithwick's and Guinness) at Raglan Road, and surprise surprise...I liked it!

I'd more than likely get my Guinness at Epcot at the Rose and Crown, though.

My mom is Irish (I'm half Irish :) ) and she and her sister go to Ireland every year without fail. My brother and his wife have been twice, and my other brother and wife are going next month. They are all pretty big Guiness drinkers. DH is all Irish and loves Guiness also. The thing that's been stopping us from going to Ireland is our 3 kids.

I can tell you that you can get a Guiness in England in Epcot and walk around with it. DH and I have gotten black and tan half-yards many times while waiting for Illuminations to start.

Oh, for what it's worth, my family that has been to Ireland claims that Guiness is way, way better over there, although I'm not sure why.

What I have been told is the fact is its not pasturized and its served "warmer" than most Americans are use too. I do not care for beer but Guinness in Ireland is wonderful. Supposedly the farther you get away from the Guinness Brewery the more different it is. At least that is my DH excuse of why he does not leave the city limits of Dublin. I would defer to someone who lives on the Emerald Island itself. Sorry to hijack the thread.
