Hi!

I was wondering if anyone knew how the guides' emails are? I cannot find my guide's card and I have called him several times this week without any response so I can add-on. I have * and would appreciate it if anyone could help me get in contact with him.

thanks!

Most of the guides do not communicate by e-mail at all. It's a liability thing, I'm sure. But if you're not getting responses, I would call the main number and tell them you are unable to reach your guide.

Call (800) 800-9100 and let them know that you want to add on. I am sure that you will be connected to a Guide within seconds. :thumbsup2

In my opinion this is the best advice. If you wait for your guide to return your call it could be weeks, months or years.

thanks for the responses. I left two messages on his voice mail out of several asking him to email me a good time to call him as I am currently in Europe and I would be happy to call. I thought he would quickly respond this way but I am now getting frustrated. Maybe he still angry that I turned him down when we toured dvc. We bought through resale and may add-on that way too because I can get more points than directly through disney. I was just hoping to put it all on my credit card since I have 9% interest and earn bonuses as apposed to disney's outrageous financing. Oh well. We will see who gets the sale...

I have had good luck with email, although my guide will use the phone when talking about prices.

The OP needs a new guide. Last month I sent an email to my guide about adding points late on a Monday (5:30PM), and she called back a few minutes later. We worked out the details in that one phone call, and received contracts on Friday :thumbsup2

So I finally managed to get an email from my guide after tracking him down and he now claims that he cannot discuss anything with me since I am currently in Sweden, although I have an american email, bank account which I will pay from, address etc and my mother who resides in the states is listed as co-owner. I find this really interesting as it was not a problem when he was looking to sell me 160 points when I was in Florida last year as he could just send my mother the paperwork and she could forward it to me, but now that he is not going to get a huge commission because I only want 30 points, it is not allowed. He did explain then that they would not be able to direct business with me in Sweden, but that it was ok as long as we used my american address. Wonder why it is now a problem? I guess I will go resale as he suggested because it only works out better for me in the long run.

Just a note here - the Guide's name was edited out as we do not allow the publication of DVC Guides' names when posting negative comments about them. This DIS policy is due to the fact that the Guides cannot post here to present their side of the "story".

The laws here state that you could purchase when you were physically here in Florida in the U.S., but apparently not when you are physically in Sweden. That is even the case with some of our own U.S. states.

The Guides do not make the laws, and are bound to abide by them. Sounds like resale will be the best way for you to go. Good luck with your purchase, it is a good time to check out resales for sure. :)

I'm pretty sure guides are not permitted to communicate by email -- especially regarding a purchase. There is a set legal format that specifies how they are required to present written sales materials, and email ain't it.

Either call the main DVC sales number or call The Timeshare Store. I'm sure TTS will return your calls, answer your emails, or whatever it takes to help you add on...and save you some money in the process! ;)

If your DVC timeshare salesman handled that sale as you describe, I'm almost positive he violated both Florida and Swedish law, and also DVC policies. Using that cute little workaround with your mother for the purpose of subverting Florida's timeshare laws to sell where DVC is not licensed to sell is almost certainly a criminal act.

If you wanted to get out of the transaction all together, I'd bet Member Administration would cancel the sale in a heartbeat.

Thoughts on the email thing...I have been able to communicate with my guide by email. I write, he calls me. I'm communicating by email though he is not.

But it's still VERY convenient, because I don't have to "bother" him when he's got 18,000 things on his desk, and he knows exactly what my questions are and that makes the phone call very quick (gets the answers before the phone call).

Honestly I'd get a new guide, no matter how you buy, if he's going to be that annoying. My guy waited 1.5 years for us to buy...he knew we'd be back to him. If he'd pouted about it (we didn't buy resale, but we were thinking about it!) I wouldn't like him nearly as much.

So no matter what, get a new guide, IMO.

Agreed as to the success of sending e-mails from the member side. A month or so after our purchase, I sent our guide an e-mail with an exact list of resort/room priorities for our first member trip (she had asked us to contact her for our first booking.) She called me back the last day already having placed a hold on our second choice (no blame there, #1 was BLT MK view only 2.5 months out). Both her and regular Member Services commented on how nice I had laid out the list making things easy for them.

But his mother is listed on the deed as a co-owner. Doesn't that make it legal?
