We toured the Poly earlier this month, but decided not to buy at that time. We now have a verbally-accepted offer on a resale contract (waiting for the paperwork at the moment). Presuming it goes through, will we be assigned the same guide we saw on our tour? I'd prefer not to work with him, but I wasn't sure if we'll get him by default since he has our name/address already.

Yes, most likely the guide who toured you will remain 'your guide.' However, you needn't have any transactions with that individual. 'Guide' is simply an acting role for 'sales person.' You'll book your future travels using Member Services -- not the 'Guide.'

After your resale contract gets processed, your guide will get notified that you bought resale. If you want to change guides, you can call the sales number and ask for a switch.

Yes, but "guide" is one of the bigger misnomers out there. They are sales people so unless you plan to buy direct too there's no reason to talk to a guide.

You can call and ask to have a different guide, but unless you plan to purchase additional points through Disney, you'll probably never speak to him again. I purchased my points 16 years ago, and I haven't spoken to a guide since I gave her the deposit. I vaguely remember that she left at some point, but I have absolutely no idea who my guide is these days.

As noted, you already have a guide. You may want to do a small add on anyway to get the perks otherwise you really don't need to interact with them.

Thanks, all. I don't know if we'll ever do an add on, but it's nice to know I generally won't be dealing with him. At the tour, he gave the impression that we'd do everything through him, including making reservations.

Nope, you make reservations through Member Services, deal with maintenance fee issues through Member Accounting, deal with problems through Member Satisfaction. The guides are purely salespeople.

Oh - maybe he meant he'd help you with your first reservation. Some guides do that, sometimes.
