Guest and pool visiting

No, your friends can't swim at the pool at AKL. There is a large sign right at the pool saying that it is for the use solely for guests of AKL.

Even DVC members can't pool hop there. That should be enough of a clue that the pool area there is quite small & can't acommodate extra people.

The difficulty with just bringing a guest and not asking is that resorts will do random ID checks, and will boot people out of the pool area if they can't produce a resort ID, even if they're with people who do have valid ID for that resort. There have been numerous reports on the resort board of people having to go back to the room to get ID for one of their own kids.

To save their guests the embarrassment of having to leave, I'd ask.

I have personally been asked for my ID (I showed KTTW) several times at BWV the most recent being last year.. I have no problem showing it and appreciate the efforts of the Cast Members to keep the pool available for the registered guests only.

I have to agree here - maybe book a studio for one day so as to have room keys for your guests to join you that day..

I had a similar circumstance when we were staying at ASMusic in Feb. I think that the rules may not be the same for all resorts, and in our case there was only a child who was a guest, but I can tell you how I went about it.

We were staying at the resort during my DD's twirling competition and were having her friend over for a playdate. Before we left home I called the "front desk" of the resort ie the call centre to see what the rules were for them using the pool. The put me through to the real front desk who assured me that any guest of mine was a guest of theirs. When we arrived at the resort, I confirmed this in person at the front desk, with the CM at the pool and with the lifeguard. On the day of the playdate, I did the same again. Same response every time ie. a guest of ours was a guest of theirs. The CM that I had spoken to earlier in the day was still there when the girl arrived and came over to give them a pile of towels.

I would do the same at any hotel -- call ahead from home, check when you get to the hotel, check the day that a friend is visiting. Conceivably, there are times when pools become so crowded that lifeguards have to limit the number of resort guests using the pools. I would think that their response would be different under those circumstances.

I had to call MS this morning so I thought I'd ask about guests joining us at the pool. I was told they were welcome as long as they were with us and we could show resort ID. Not saying he can't be wrong, but I still plan to ask when we check in.

Only the lifeguard at the pool can give the final say so to non-guests at a resort pool.

As Deb & Bill stated only a lifeguard at that resort can give you the accurate answer, as they are responsbile for the safety of the guests at the pool. Over crowding can definitely be a safety issue.

Think of it this way, would you call a lifeguard at a DVC resort and ask a question about banking your points.

Or you could check with the boat captains since they know *everything* :lmao:

Yup, this is correct. Before heading over to the resort you wish to pool hop to, you can call the resort directly and ask if you can hop that day. They will check it out with the pool and provide you with an answer.

So, do you guys think I should call and ask? I don't want to wait until I get there since she and her husband would have a 2 hour drive to see us.
It won't help. You could call 2 hours before and still be turned away when you get there.

Thanks everyone. I don't want to get them kicked out and embarrass us or them. They have 3 kids as do we. The boys all play together (4 of them). Being a Sat. I'm not sure how busy it will be. I guess I will ask when we check in.
The best way to do this is to list all in the room or get them a studio for the one night.

We aren't pool hopping, we are using the pool we are staying at.

Like others have said, the AKV pools are not open to DVC pool hopping, the pool built for the original lodge is fairly small. I don't know what the Kidani pool will be like, and it depends upon how crowded the pool area is at the time. There's no way to know until your guests have arrived how busy the pools may be.

I have seen them check at BWV for keys.
It seems as if one key per group is good most of the time.

Like anything else if you happen to have a friend or two stop by it should not be a problem,If you invire the world you may.
I have seen security eject a large group (20 people)who were having a party pool side.

Just wanted to point out this is a thread from a year ago, prior to the opening of Kidani. Not sure why it got bumped.
