Guess What I Was Just Told?i Have The Long Awaited Disney Perk,WE GET THE AP AND PAP

The vouchers (or exchange certificates as they are called on the members site) must be redeemed the same way as outright purchase of a pass - the member with a blue card must be present and all adults must present ID. I am fairly certain these vouchers will have some DVC-specific language on them concerning the procedures for redeeming them, and thus the vouchers would be of no use to non-DVC members.

[edit: Doctor P, you beat me to it addressing the vouchers]

However, this brings up an interesting question: What if a member's adult children living at the same address (but without blue member cards) travel to WDW without the member but with AP vouchers purchased by the member? Will they be able to redeem them? These people are eligible to receive the discounts according to all the rules, but will not have a blue member card to present when redeeming the vouchers. I wonder if it will be acceptable to present the member's ID card without the member being present.

Yes, things could get sticky quickly couldn't they. I'm sure they will figure it out, but not without some growing pains and disgruntled situations.

Just got a message from my guide, also, regarding upgrading the AP pass that I just bought to a PAP after Jan 2. He said "according to his sources" and added "I hope they're right" that I would be able to. Double checked with MS, who directed me to Ticket Services and I was told that yes, you can upgrade an AP voucher to a PAP and take advantage of the new PAP discount price - she advised me that I would need my receipt in order to assure that I would be credited the full amount that I paid for the AP.
Well, I wouldn't have purchased a PAP since I have so many pluses on old hoppers, but for only a few dollars more, I'll get the PAP in January instead of activating my AP in Dec and save all my pluses for the rest of the family to use. :smooth:

Yes things could get sticky quickly! But I still think relaxing the rules slightly to allow non-cohabitating immediate family members to be eligible for the discount wouldn't add to the stickiness considering all of the other rules in place (max 8 passes, names imprinted) to prevent abuse. One would think with all the Magical Gatherings marketing targeting trips with the extended family, this would fit right in!

On another note,
Does anyone besides me wish the plusses would include DisneyQuest? Then I would finally have something to do with a load of leftover plusses! (I don't go to PI or the waterparks often, but love DQ!)

But then you get into the issue of having to prove relationships, etc. Not sure we want to go there, and frankly, with due respect given some of the things we have seen with respect to how some people try to take advantage of whatever system is in place for whatever purpose, I am not willing to wholesaley trust people to be honest about this. I think the requirement for same address is both reasonable and appropriate as a means of best assuring lack of abuse while simplifying administration.

How many in laws live with the other side of the family. I agree that we'll see an either or approach. IMO, DVC would have been better off just saying those living in the household OR just listing those that could get the passes. Having one pass both tests is way too arbitrary and I'm sure those rules will fade quickly.

I agree, and I think the household test will be way easier to administer.

When you go through the gate fingerprints are taken and only that person can use that pass. Passes cannot be transferred from person to person. I am not sure if that is what you meant in your post but I thought I would interject a little knowledge I have garnered from being a passholder for many years/

I hold 4 expensive vouchers for AP's that won't be activated til March. Any way to take advantage of the discount? Is it too late? If I try to upgrade to PAP's at the discounted rate, will they apply the full dollar amount of my current vouchers toward the PAP's or just the new, discounted amount that an AP is now "worth?"

Can the vouchers be returned for credit?

Anyone know? I would love to upgrade to PAP's and take the kids to the water parks!

I'm in the same boat. I called WDW Ticketing and the Ap vouchers are not refundable. I don't think we will be able to get the discounted APs. Hopefully we can upgrade to PAPs with the discount.

I don't really have anything to add to this, but POOH&PIGLET, your girls are beautiful!!!!

Does anyone know the answer to this question: My husband and I bought Florida Resident- Seasonal Annual Passes for ourselves in Sept. Can I upgrade to an AP or a PAP using the new DVC perk? I can't use my present pass in the summer or during premium weeks.

If you think this is illegal or unethical, please don't flame me too badly. I have a very logical mind and hate to see people lose out. So here is a suggestion for those who hold vouchers that don't need to be activated until after Jan 2.

Why couldn't someone who is going this Nov or Dec buy a voucher or 2 from someone who does not need it yet and get a $50 discount? That way they each would benefit-split the saving?

Just seems silly that those who hold vouchers won't get the break and those that need AP vouchers for this Nov or Dec won't get a break either.

I know that there is a trust thing to consider, but quite honestly I would not have any problem doing this with some poster that has been around for a long time.

OK, I am done. Flame away:firefight :rolleyes1

Never mind. I just looked at the dvcmember site and saw I save $20 on a FL resident AP and 25 on an fl resident PAP. Nothing for renewals because "they are such a good rate already".

Well, there's going to have to be some link between GR and our DVC contracts - at least to keep track of how many passes have been sold per member/contract.

Sadly, what I said yesterday is turning out to be too true:
"I guess now that the Occupancy issue has been resolved, Disney decided we needed a new set of "official rules" vs "I was told by a Guide" issues to debate. "

In any case, I hope that this is resolved in clear and official manner, and not left up to some poor unfortunate soul at GR who read the "DVC Discount" memo three weeks ago and didn't quite understand it then....

I am sorry but I was reading the responses. What do you mean AP and upgraded to PAP? What does that mean about the tickets?

Lou

Hot Dog!!!

Thanks for the wonderful info.! I had taken that survey last year which led me to believe this might happen. I did have doubts, though ...
Well, this is tremendous news!

This is the best news!!!! I couldn't decide
if I wanted to get a AP this next year and now I know that I will!!!!!!!!!!1:hyper:

I appreciate any ticket discount but I guess I don't understand why the AP/PAP has to be limited to people living in the same household.

All of my contracts are tied to my Blue DVC Member ID card number so it will be easy for them to keep tabs on the maximum limit by Member ID # (not by the number of contracts).

They can also keep the same rule that requires the DVC member present when redeeming the exchange ticket and renewals (there should be no exceptions). In order to control it and reduce loss if abuse occurs they could limit it to two people outside of the household per year. They could also tie the DVC member id # used to purchase the AP or PAP to identify the member if abuse occurs with the DVC discounted AP/PAP ticket. When abuse is discovered then the DVC member should be banned from any future AP/PAP discounts.

According to allearsnet.com

The AP can only be used by one person. With APs, Disney uses biometric scan which take a series of photographs of your index and middle fingers - it measures your fingers and compares that each time your pass is used.

Once the AP/PAP is activated if you lose it, you can simply bring your photo ID to any Guest Relations location and they will reissue your AP/PAP to you therefore they have a way of identifying each AP/PAP member today.

Can you only get the DVC discount if you buy through the DVC website? What about renewals?

That might also make it difficult or impossible to use Disney Visa rewards to buy these passes.

Which means that if I wanted to gift DS and future DIL with a Disney trip without us, we can't get them APs, as we won't be there.

I remain dreadfully curious as to how it will all work out when put into practice....
