Guess What I Was Just Told?i Have The Long Awaited Disney Perk,WE GET THE AP AND PAP

Beca, we are reading the same thing and you are misinterpreting what I am saying. If the person who has the different address also has a blue card, then they just buy their pass separately showing the blue card and the photo ID. Anyone who doesn't have a blue card will have to have a photo ID that matches up with the address of the person that has the blue card. (snip)

I agree!

The way I read that is like this.

I go to the park to purchase AP. I present MY DVC member card along with my driver's license. My husband ONLY needs to present his driver's license and it needs to be the same address as mine. They are not, IMO, going to pull up our contract and make sure the addresses match. They just want the person that has the membership cards address to be the same as everyone that is there at the time. Since my mom is not on our contract, she does not have a membership card. If she shows her license, the address will not match my address therefore, she can not get the discounted pass. That is how I read it. I could be wrong.

I interpret this, this way:

*I present my DVC Member ID and my DL/State ID to buy my AP.
*My husband presents his DL/State ID (cause he's an adult ;) ) to prove he resides with me, and I buy his AP.
*I can buy an AP for my "adult" children who present a DL/State ID that shows they reside with me.
*I can buy an AP for my minor children without additional ID's.
*I can't buy an AP for my DMIL because the address on her DL/State ID is not the same as mine.

It will be interesting to see how Disney applies these restrictions to actual AP sales.

A whole new set of WDW family squabbles appears. "My DIL said they can only give me the discount ifI had the same address. She just said that because she doesn't like me." ;)

That's better than "I'm moving back home so I can get the AP discount too." ;)

That sounds right. However, let's assume your DMIL is a "co-owner" of the contract and is listed as a member or associate member or whatever. If she had her own blue membership card she could present that and her lisence and get the discount regardless of her address.

I guess I agree with Doc P. Anyone who has a blue membershipo card with their name on it can get the discount. They have to present their DL (photo ID) to confirm they are the person listed on the card. They won't check the address on the DL against the address on the contract. Any adult without a blue membership card will have to present a DL that shows they have the same address as a member with a membership card.

Doctor P...I am sure you are right...and now, that actually DOES make sense to me (I am kind of slow sometimes) that EACH person showing a blue card can "establish" an address for a discount...I GOT it!!!!! So, since DH and I EACH have blue cards, we do not have to be at the same address.

Thanks for clearing that up!!!

Tell her you're moving in with her.

I agree with Doctor P and EmptyNesters example. If you have a Blue ID card you are in. If you dont then you need to have the same addy as the person with the Blue ID card. Basically they will not accept room keys (KTTW) that say "Member".

Does anyone know if Associates receive Blue cards?

Very interesting questions and predictions about how the AP discount will work. You guys are the best.

Sometimes I think about all the folks at DVC/DVD...Jim Lewis and the crew. They get to come up with a plan for something like this...figure out some basic sandards for it...leak it (via the guides) to a few members who are part of disboards...and let them figure out all of the gory details (or at least ask all of the questions that would have eventually come up)! Talk about great, instant feedback. DVC disboards members are not your typical DVC members!

I also think DVD deserves a special thank you from all of us. It really shows that they are listening. I look forward to more pleasant surprises in the future.

I hold 4 expensive vouchers for AP's that won't be activated til March. Any way to take advantage of the discount? Is it too late? If I try to upgrade to PAP's at the discounted rate, will they apply the full dollar amount of my current vouchers toward the PAP's or just the new, discounted amount that an AP is now "worth?"

Can the vouchers be returned for credit?

Anyone know? I would love to upgrade to PAP's and take the kids to the water parks!

I talked to my guide today to ask about who is eligable for the passes. We can buy them and give them to immediate family up to 8 passes so mother father sister brother MIL FIL SIL BIL and so on.

Colleen - I have a call in to my guide asking exactly that question - I'll post his answer as soon as I hear back from him. I hope that we can upgrade our APs to PAPs with the discount - the difference would only be about 3 or 4 $$.

I don't like that option at all. How the heck can they prove my SIL is my SIL or really my next door neighbor? I think they need restrictions on these passes or they will no longer be a special discount for DVC members. They will end up being a discount on AP's that are available to anyone that knows where to look.

The DVC Member site says immediate familiy members inluding BIL, SIL, Parents, Brothers and Sisters that are living in the same household!

We have the 2 AP vouchers that were an incentive for adding on 130 or more SSR points.

She said that I could upgrade those vouchers to PAP's after Jan 2, 2004 using the discount! It would cost less than $20 to do this.

I can see where upgrades are allowed on previously purchased vouchers and being able to use the discount, because they are already allowed and that option has always been available when you activate a AP voucher.

It seems like the way they have implemented the rules may be open to interpretation/confusion by GR CMs, but certainly the max of 8 passes will cut down on any potential abuse. Assuming this means 8 per cotnract, and they can keep track of how many passes were purchased per contract. This would easily solve the problem of co-ownership and addresses not being the same.

I would like to see the rules allow for purchases for siblings, parents, and children, even if they don't reside at the same address, up to a max of 8 passes per contract.

I like the restrictions they have placed. Eight passes per contract would allow for a ton of passes to be sold on Ebay and would be very hard to police and create further inequities (like the difference between those who add on via resale vs. those who add on through Disney--one group has one contract with multiple add ons and one group has multiple contracts since they did there add ons through resale). I really don't think we want to go there. I think it is a generous perk that it even goes beyond the owners on the contract since that would be a logical and unambiguous way of limiting things (but I do wonder how they will keep track of how many passes are bought on each account).

I would assume they will process these passes like any other annual pass, with individual names imprinted on the passes. Thus it seems that they have effectively restricted the passes from being sold on ebay because any eligible non-owner must be present with the owner and said owner's blue membership card to redeem a voucher or buy a pass, and these passes will then be imprinted with the passholder's name. It is then up to the CMs at the gate to verify the person using the pass is the same person whose name is imprinted on the pass. Now obviously the CMs don't check all the time, but the possibility that they could check anytime you enter a park, and confiscate the pass then and there, should be an effective deterrent for most illegal buyers of passes. With a name imprinted on the pass there is a much greater possibility of being caught using an illegally-obtained pass compared to normal hopper passes.

mochabean... I beleive I read on the member site that if you order them for the member site they will send vouchers. The vouchers do not have names on them.

Which isn't much of a problem if they adhere to the policies that have been outlined--transferability becomes more difficult.
