Guess What I Was Just Told?i Have The Long Awaited Disney Perk,WE GET THE AP AND PAP

Dean--I'm perplexed also about the "same address" issue. Not that it really is a huge deal for us as hubby and are probably the only ones to take advantage of this great deal. However, if mom, dad, and grandma (who do go with us on occasion) were interested, they would not be included because they don't live with us? I'm not sure I understand why they would include inlaws and the like if they have to live with us. Talk about occupancy overload...whew!! Maybe they assume we all live in the same house since folks are always asking about sneaking in an extra body in a studio......ha!
I can't speak for Disney but as I said earlier, it seems a little strange to include that specific list then require them to be living in the same household. I could see having the member along or be staying with the member on points. And I could have seen a generic statement that said all members, etc living in the same household. But to specify that list then insert the requirements as they did is schizophrenic. What about associate members or those who have co-owned accounts with different addresses?

And it is unlikely I'll use this perk, usually get PH or the seasonal passes which are still a better deal for us.

I have no problem with everyone having to live at the same addresses. It is right and more then fair.

I do wonder how I will feel about that in about 25 years when my now 16 year old has never left home because he doesn't want to lose the discount LOL :teeth:

I think you'd have more things to worry about at that point. LOL. But, I think that if your son was named as an associate member, he would be entitled to the discount even if he didn't live at the same address. I'm totally guessing about this. But, if associate members have the little blue cards too, than wouldn't they be able to get the same discount?

I know this thread is getting long, but I had to chime in.

From posts as way back as I can remember.

DVC members have been saying, why can't we get the Florida Resident Discount.

Here it is folks.
This discount in effect makes us all Florida Residents.

The only other pass discount besides the Annuals that the true Florida Residents get are:

1. Seasonal Pass
2. Play 4 Pass

I can't remember any discounts on PHP in the past.
I think I remember discounts on single day passes.

As previously posted, there are various outlets for discounts on other passes.

It is funny now that the discount that everyone has been asking for, for years is here. Now we want more.

I for one am VERY happy to see this discount even though I am going in 15 days and will just miss out this time.

If I were to add anything to my discount wish list for now, would be to have the option to join the Disney Dining Discount.

Thanks DVC

Joe

:D

BUMMER !!

I just saw the "living in the same household" requirement.
Oh well, it's better than nothing at all but I guess I won't be buying more DVC points because of the AP discount.
:(

But, of course, government workers are just leeches who don't deserve the same pay and benefits that other people get, and, of course, the true cause of government deficits is giving extra pay and benefits to those of us who work so that the rest can keep their tax breaks. That's certainly what many politicians would want you to believe.

There's those politicians again. Still trying to figure out what they have to do with DVC ticket discounts.

It stinks that I can't buy my parents APs at a discount just because they don't live with me. They're still my parents. But what the heck.

I certainly don't envy them trying to balance reasonable cases against people trying to take advantage. But here's a shot:

(1) A household consisting of a couple and *any* number of children (defined as dependent minors).

(2) Up to (your favorite number, e.g. 8) immediate family members (as defined above) living at the same address.

(3) Up to (your favorite number, e.g. 4) immediate family members not necessarily living at the same address.

I favor simplicity, but I also would hate to see this perk abused.

I like number 3! My sister and niece travel with us all the time, and they would need passes too....I might have to look into adding her to one of my DVC Contracts, if I can.....there are only 2 members in my house hold, all those points, I have to share with someone! :earsboy:

I really, really want to get excited about this, but am having a hard time doing so. Please tell me I have a reason to love this perk! If we only go once a year for 7-10 days in the school's April vacation, and do not have the option to "go the week before" to take advantage of the AP still being of use, then do we really have a use for an AP? I don't seeing us going more than once a year and we usually buy 7 day PH's. This trip coming up, we're doing 4 days at DW, then the Disney cruise for 4 days, then back to DW for 4 days. But in reality, the plan is to do the parks for 6 of those days (given travel time and down time). So give me a good reason to buy the AP's please!

I really want to share in this excitement! :(

Here is my figuring on this -- and forgive me if this has already been covered.

According to my calculations the regular AP price is $379 + 6.5% tax=$403.64 The discount will, presumably, come off the before tax price -- making it $279 + 6.5% tax = $297.14

This is definitely cheaper than a 7 day PHP , even if the AP doesn't give one access to the waterparks or PI. It's cheaper than a 6 day PHP from Ticketmania, and just slightly more expensive than a 6 day PHP from the other ticket brokers.

One does not need to be a member of "the elite" DVCers to benefit from this perk. My family (DD, DW and I) will be spending 7 nights at DVC in January with plans to spend 5 days in the parks. If we buy 1 discounted AP to take advantage of the discounts (e.g. World of Disney 10%) and combine that with regular PHPs, I think this perk is something worth exploring. We won't be going back to WDW within the next year, but the cost benefits might make this a worthwhile option for my family.

Could someone please check my math for me -- the Disney website isn't willing to tell me what the current AP price might be,

Those numbers are ABOUT what a DVC CM & I came up with for my next AP using the DVC discount. I, too, hope the discount comes off before the tax is applied.

Do associate members get Membership cards? I thought they did not.

As far as the rules, I think it is fair. When we were discussing this perk in the past, it was for the membership, not everyone in the whole family. They made the distinction, because if any of those people meet the "immediate family" criteria and reside in your household, they qualify. This is a very plausible situation in todays society.

If I can only use it for myself Dh and the kids than I am grateful. Most likely we will only buy 1 a year and continue with the PHP's, the US/IOA AP's and the DQ AP's for Dh and the boys. They go to DQ and I go to Disney on our down days.

At Member Homecoming in May, Jim Lewis and Al Weiss spoke about how they would work together for the members and build a relationship that had not existed before. You could tell Mr. Weiss was very impressed with the dedication of the DVC members and our willingness to "show up".

This is a great perk for DVC members (even the ones that can't use it) because it shows DVC's increased negotiating power. Each member that grew DVC to what it is today, by telling a friend, by giving DVC the highest marks in the timeshare industry, by voting it #1 on Tug, by contributing to this board, this if for us!

So yes, I fell for it hook line and sinker, and Im thrilled that they are making good on their promise to treat us like DVC Royalty!

Mooooo! LOL

With the discount the price for the AP is the same as a 7 day PH. With it you'll be able to go to the parks without having to spend the day any of the 8 days you'll be there. If you want to go see Wishes or something in the evening you can do just that. Last year after traveling all day and getting settled I went to MK just to see Wishes. Great way to start a trip :) , not very practical if you are using PH.

My DH does very little park time but loves an AP because he can go for 1hr or 8 on any day we are there.

Thanks...I'm sure I've been just one of many many DVCers who have expressed their desire for an admission discount to DVC. I know we have done this several times in writing. Whether this is just a Disney "bottom line decision " or not, the perception among members will be that Disney does care about (and recognize) DVCers as a special group of WDW guests. This is a perk that members will be able to use at the time of their choosing. The Fedora family is very happy about this, even though we will not be getting our next AP until 2006. I'm feeling more positive about our upcoming trip already.

But those are the best passes for many people. To be clear, this may be giving the same discounts on SOME ticket media but is not making DVC members FL residents, not even from a Disney perspective.

well, if that April vacation comes over Easter Spring Break, then there is a chance that the weeks will shift and you could take advantage of it. My son used to have his break during Easter Week, but the school has changed it now, to always be the 3rd week in March...I have an April Use year, so I would rather have the spring break during Easter, but, on the bright side, the parks are a little less crowded in March....very little :teeth:

Just a question.....

I have bought AP's years ago and obviously purchased them in person....

Be great to get these for my 06 trips that Im planning.

Do you still need to purchase them in person?? How do you get them now..??

If the 25% discount comes before tax is applied, the net cost is

ORIGINAL PRICE * 0.75 * 1.065

If the 25% discount comes after tax is applied, the net cost is

ORIGINAL PRICE * 1.065 * 0.75

When you think of it this way, it should not come as a big surprise that the results are exactly the same.

My DH and I just renewed our PAP three weeks ago........I wonder if they will give us the discount difference ........

Hi Kris - according to the DVC website FAQ section on this whole subject...
<b>I just purchased or renewed my Walt Disney World Annual or Premium Annual Pass. Can I receive a discount or credit for that purchase?</b> <i>The discount is effective only for purchases on or after January 2, 2005.</i>

After keeping up with this thread and reading the details posted on the DVC Member site, I realized that we have moved since I got my last driver's license so the address on my license isn't the address on our membership account. If they truly require proof that everyone lives in the same household, will that mean DH can but a discounted AP but I can't? I hope not!
