This is a group check-in for all of my swaps including the ones I'm hosting.

My oldest cat, Arkhe, had emergency abdominal surgery yesterday. He is being kept under sedation and observation at least through tomorrow although his vitals are elevated so we aren't sure he'll even be coming home then.

DH and I don't have kids and Arkhe was our first "baby". He is my husband's first pet and my first pet as an adult. Needless to say, I'm a basket case and DH is not doing particularly well either. I've not eaten since Sunday and neither of us is sleeping particularly well.

Swapping/scrapping is not high on my list at the moment. I'm holding it together (barely) to work and deal with school but we are pretty much spending as much time as possible at the vet with him so he's not by himself with strange people. He knows I'm there because he licked my hand this morning before they gave him more pain meds/sedatives.

I don't anticipate being late on anything but I wanted y'all to know why I won't be around.

 so sorry shauna. lots of hugs & love to your, your dh and your little Arkhe.

I am soo0 sorry to hear about your cat. DH and I also have no kids but our cats are our "babies". I can't imagine if something happened. I hope he has a quick recovery.

 to you and your furbaby. I have 3 cats - I know what you are going through...

Dh and I lost his Gracie he had for 13 years not long after we got married.
Love and hugs to you and Dh and good thoughts baby will be ok.

 Shauna. I know exactly what you are going through. One of our cats had major surgery a few years ago. It was right when we were going down to Disney for a few days. I sent DH and DS on down and I stayed here even though T.K. wouldn't be coming home until after we got back. I just knew I wouldn't have a good time worrying about him and this way I could go visit him.

Thanks everyone. He is doing a bit better. His pulse has regulated and his blood pressure is a bit better. They've decided they want to keep him until tomorrow but are going to start easing him off the IV 'cause they need him to eat and go potty on his own before he can come home.

He looks so tiny and sad there. I hate leaving him even though I know it's for the best.

Thanks for being so supportive.

Oh Shauna, I'm so sorry Arkhe is ill. I'm glad to hear he is doing a little better and hope that continues. It's so hard to see our loving fur-kids not feeling well.

Gracie and Disney also send their doggie kisses your way! :flower3:

Thanks, YM.

Good news!!!!! Arkhe ate some soft food! The vet tech was feeding some of the other kitties when she heard a scratchy meow. When she turned around, Arkhe's head was lifted a bit and he was sniffing. He's a big boy who really loves his food so it was obvious that he was feeling well enough to want some even though he's been getting IV food. They are going to try a bit more soft food later today and then see how things go from there. The vet says that it's a good sign that he is not only interested in food but is also eating!
