Grocery Store Shelves Empty

I normally shop at Wegman's. Every Sunday morning. Last Sunday, when panic was starting, I found a few things missing, but otherwise not horrible. Went to Wegman's after work Thursday and it was getting worse. We have lots of grocery stores where I live and most of them do a very slow business because Wegman's is so popular. Today I decided to hit the local Safeway. Huge store and never seems to have more than 10 people in it at a time (again, Wegman's.) Well I did pretty well there today. Got my food for the week. They didn't have a lot of ground beef but they had some. Ample supplies of steaks, sausages, that sort of thing. Chicken was just gone. Everything else was good. Plenty of pasta and sauces. Canned veggies and fruit. Wegman's had none of that.

Do you like boones farm apple? We drank it in the early 70s . it was $1.00 for a quart

Is it even still made? I've outgrown Blue Nun, Boones, Scupbana (sp?), et al but will admit that earlier in my life all it had to taste like was cherry Koolaid with booze and I was fine. Oops.

Boone's Farm Apple Blossom Wine was my drink of choice in college and for several years after. I think it was about $1.50 in the late 70's/early 80s. And by that time all liquor and wine in the US was being sold by metric measurements. 750 ml, 1 liter, 1.5 liter, etc. Supposedly it's still being made and sold.

My daughter had the same experience at a higher priced less popular chain in my area. Ground beef and chicken were just about gone, but they had plenty of most other things. Even some toilet paper.

For whatever reasons, there was never a shortage of bottled water here.

I just went about my local dairy to pick up some milk. I usually buy it at the store but under the circumstances drove 2 miles to the farm instead. They are so awesome - even before the virus they had a set up that did not involve seeing a person. You just walk in take your milk out of the cooler leave your cash on the counter, write down your name and how much you took/paid and then leave. It’s such a delightfully sweet honor system. I mean, they do have cameras to monitor thing, but the way they are set up essentially means I’m not worried about being able to obtain milk, butter, cheese & eggs no matter how long this lasts.

We are having big issues with this in the U.K. Went to my local supermarket today and so much was completely out: pasta, rice, eggs, soap, sanitizer, ibuprofen and paracetamol, mince, kitchen towel and of course toilet roll. It is selfish for people to buy an excess of what they need at the expense of others’ needs. I honestly don’t understand the desperate desire for toilet roll- I’d be more concerned about stockpiling food and drink if I were that concerned about the situation.

I saw pics of people lining up at 6 am to go shopping at Safeway! I am one of those crazies who have been prepping for weeks. Just a few things here and there. Today I had to pick up chicken nuggets and corn dog nuggets. Only the organic chicken nuggets were left. Mini hooligan better be grateful!!!!!!

I am up to my ears in toilet paper. None bought in the past month.

When it went on sale I would buy a pack, usually had 20 rolls in it. Then one day I found that the toilet paper was taking up two shelves in my linen closet, for me a year's worth. Same at my brother;s house where I do some of his shopping because he does not drive. So I stopped buying it.

One time a few y ears ago there was a blizzard on the way and people were crowding the grocery store I was in. All I needed was one loaf of bread and that was all I bought.

Never rope dropped a store (or a ball game or theater ticket office). Never rushed to a black Friday sale.
