Grocery Store Pet Peeves

First off- because it would take no extra time on your part to let someone go ahead who has a few items- in the amount of time you could be putting things on the belt, I could be done.

and Honestly I think it is you who has "unrealistic expectations" to expect everyone in the line to wait on you who has to have a "seperate receipt", figure it out on your own time instead of holding up everyone to make it convient for you- and please make sure you have enough change to cover the 98 cents....

I think your name says it all "Princess" :rotfl2:

Wow, so because someone who got there first, won't let you go ahead of her, she is rightly called princess? That is why they make the lest than 10 items line.

After working for over 7 years in a grocery store, I've about seen it all. Here are a few of mine...
.
[*]Grocery store feet... wear your shoes!! We don't want to see that.:crazy2:

I may be sorry I asked, but, what are "Grocery store feet?"

I don't use cash, so no need to look for change. ;)

Ah, so you're one of THOSE? :wave2:
The person who comes in and buys a package of Tic Tacs and uses a debit card? :lmao:

I've been tempted to plunk a dollar down to get people like you out of my way so I don't have to wait for the debit card to be approved. :coffee:

Allot of times I will get in the lines that have full carts and I only have a few items. They will often let me go, and I refuse , I figure it teaches me how to be a little more patient. Besides most of the time I am not in any hurry.

I don't bag my own items.

At one of the two stores I go to, they hire various handi-capable people to bag groceries so I try to get in those lines. Yeah, they take a little longer but who cares? :goodvibes

God forbid some of us not carry cash... It takes the same amount of time for a debit card approval as it does for a cashier to count out change.

I break up orders all the time. Often when I shop, I shop for my family, my mom, and for the school that I teach at. I am not going to shop for my family and pay, then go shop for mom and pay, etc. It really doesn't take that much longer if a person has their credit/debit cards/cash out and ready to go.

My mom is on medicaid in the nursing home and I must have a separate receipt. Same for school--it is tax exempt and I must have a separate receipt as must the store. Also, if I am buying something for which I need to turn in a receipt to be reimbursed, it needs to be separate as well. As I unload the cart, I separate the orders and have payment methods ready to go, so it is very effiecient.

I don't always let someone who has a few items go. If I am still unloading, I probably will. If I am almost done or am done, I won't. Plus, many times I have let one person go as I was finishing unloading ony to have the others behind this person expect to go as well.

I use my debit card for everything. It doesn't take me any longer to pay with a card than it does for the cashier to take a dollar and count the change.

Unless you have a physical limitation or are watching your infant, bag your own groceries.

Why? When I am using self checkout, I bag my own. But if I am in the regular line, why should I bag my own groceries? Someone is being paid to to that.

No, I use a credit card...even faster...no putting in a pin. If it is under $25 or $50 depending on the store, you don't even have to sign!

Now that you mention it you sometimes don't have to use a PIN with a debit card either if it's under a certain amount.

:thumbsup2

I never carry cash. I use my debit card, but as a Visa card, so no pin number.

Way more protections than paying for things in cash (although maybe not for a pack of gum :rotfl2:)

Isn't technology wonderful that we don't have to carry cash all the time!

If a debit card is branded with a Visa/Mastercard logo you have the option to run it as credit regardless of amount. I earn cash back rewards on my debit card anytime I run it as a credit so I do..$2 to $200 I don't have to enter a pin but I might be required to sign depending on amount.

intersesting. I only use my debit at costco, but it always asks for a pin.

I use a credit card for the points! Every dollar counts!

I love not having to carry cash. My MIL thinks I am crazy!:confused3

I really like Wal-Mart becase of the wide uncluttered aisles. They are the best at this. Every other store I go in there's somewhere I can't go in my wheel-chair.

I'm not a fan of self check-outs :crazy2: I was on crutches once, and had to make an emergency run to purchase a toilette seat. I dodn't need any extra steps that day, so I found someone to show me where the seats were, but he hightailed it out of there so I had to find a second person to reach one for me. When I got to the checkout there was a long line  They hired someone to harass the customers in the check-out line, to go use the self serve. Because goodness forbid they open another check-out with the additional staff. The first time I politely told her I was on crutches, and in a ton of pain, now was not the day. But, I must of looked like an easy target, because she kept harassing me untile finally I hobbled over. That still makes me mad, I haven't shopped there since.

My credit card has a PIN:thumbsup2

I'm from NJ where the deli people know how to slice deli thin and quickly.
Here, no matter how thin I ask deli meat to be sliced (not shaved), it's still thick.
...and it takes forever! And they seem to get annoyed when I ask for more than 1 or 2 items. Yeah, well I'm feeding 5 people deli sandwiches for lunch each week. Sorry if I'm asking for hand AND turkey! :)

Yes! If I only get 3 items from the deli counter the clerk is all, "is that it? Really?" Usually I get 5-7 things. And the meat is always shaved!

Costco is an exception. Costco will only accept American Express credit cards. Running your debit as a credit will make it "read" like a Visa/Mastercard credit card and thus Costco will not take it so you have to enter your PIN when using your debit there. I should clarify my statement by saying you can run your Visa/Mastercard debit as a credit at any location that accepts Visa/Mastercard.

I use my debit everywhere for everything..my Mom finds it crazy I don't carry cash on me..she always does in addition to her debit card, a check book and credit cards.

ETA-By default when you run your debit it will ask for a PIN..there is almost always an option (how it is worded can vary depending on the reader/vendor they use) to use it as a credit..hitting no, hitting a button that says credit or some other means (if the clerk runs it you often have to specify to them up front you prefer it run as a credit so they can run it correctly). Just because it asks for a PIN doesn't mean that is the only way you can use it..just that default as most will want to use their PIN.

Grocery shopping is one of those necessary evils and I try not to let stuff bug me.

But today I was seriously annoyed.

I hate those carts like cars. People block the aisles and the kids are climbing in and out of them when you want to get by.
There were 3 in use today at my grocery store. So I spent way to much time back tracking at the grocery store today trying to avoid them.

The manager asked me how I was today (I see him alot when I go during the week) and I told him I'd be much happier if they got rid of those annoying car carts.
He said he hated them too but they were required to have them by corporate.

Ahhh...car carts...I forgot about them....
Actually, it was great when my oldest went in one and the little guy was in the car seat inside the cart or in a carrier. Once they were old enough (they are 20 months apart) to sit together...the fights began. I would shop and they would fight!!!! "he touched my wheel" "he's sitting too close" "no I'm driving" etc...etc...
