Grocery Store Pet Peeves

My pet peeve is when the customer waits until the cashier indicates the total before digging thru their purse/pocket looking for their wallet! Seriously, couldnt you have your wallet in your hand at least while the cashier is ringing the stuff thru? That way when s/he says "thats $78 please" you can whip out your cash/cards quite quickly! Instead, youre holding up the line cause you cant find your darn wallet. Grrrr!!

Yes! The worst is when they finally whip out a check! A check, really? I always want to say "your next stop should be the bank to get a debit card!"

I also hate when people just stand there while there stuff is being rung up. Start bagging, please and move this line along!

both of my kids were trained very young to hit the end of the counter and start bagging. They also know what can go in what bag...no mixing meat with other things! LOL

I also hate it when a store has not trained their employees to specify exactly which customer can should get in the newly opened line first. I hate it when they just say "I'll take whoever's next in line", and the person in the back of the long line leaps into the newly opened line first even though there are people in front of them who have been waiting longer. Now THAT is rude :headache:.

HUGE pet peeve!!

I shop at some organic places & it peeves me when the pens you are suppose to use to label your items from the bulk bins are not working or not there at all.

1. If someone only has 1/2 items LET THEM GO IN FRONT OF YOU, it is sooo rude to have a basket full of grocerys and not allow someone with a few items to go first.

Why are the people with 1 or 2 items even in line with me and my big basket of groceries? They belong in the express lane.

I actually HATE when a person with 1 or 2 items lines up behind me in the regular line, giving me guilt (I realize that they are secretly hoping I will wave them ahead of me. Why else would they do that?) I have often just turned to them and nicely advised them to go wait in express.

Oh I thought of another thing. I mildly dislike when people standing in line are oogling all my groceries while they are on the belt but I REALLY HATE IT if they pick something up to look at it the rest of the packaging. Like with cereal and stuff and then they might ask me "Is this new?" or "Is it any good?"... I am like :bitelip::confused3

As working in retail, they used to say that serving 70 people an hour did not require more than one cashier. I used to have one cashier and myself, I had to do my paper work by a certain time. Was not cool, I felt so bad with the early morning rush and the coffee. I would sneak out to register when I could. And no over time was allowed.

My pet peeve, I was putting my things up on the conveyor belt and I wasn't done and the lady behind me crammed a the little bar up on my stuff. Her husband kept telling her I needed to get my stuff up there. She wouldn't listen.

Oh, I'm 39 and I STILL hate going to a line with a male cashier when I need to purchase feminine products, LOL!

Oh, that's a good one!!! I've had that happen and it's like "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?!?!"

Luckily we don't get a lot of this stuff at Publix... but we do get the family reunions in the aisles.

I hate when the cashier does that and then runs off to get the item for herself. ;) http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/target-lady/227541

But seriously, if somebody did that I would be like what the heck??!??!!

I don't have a whole lot of pet peeves in general. Doesn't mean that things don't sometimes annoy me, but I try very hard to flip things around and look for the positive in all situations.

IE, when Princess Dolly had her grocery order broken into 2 parts, my reaction isn't how it makes it take longer for me, but rather how nice it is that she did her MILs shopping when the MIL wasn't able and that she respected her MILs need to feel she was paying for her own groceries.

I *try* to do my part to help others, whether that's letting someone with a couple items or a fussy child go ahead of me, letting someone ahead of me in traffic, holding a door open, etc. But I also look for "something special" whenever I'm out, usually something in nature, ie a neat cloud formation, a hawk, etc, but sometimes it's noticing positive interactions between other people. It's a mindset that didn't come naturally to me, which is why I have to consciously do it, but the more I do, the easier it becomes.

When things do start to bother me, such as the carts abandoned in the middle of the aisle, rude shoppers, etc, I try to take a deep breath and refocus back to the positive. Can't say I always succeed  but more often than not I can turn my thinking back around. When I have days where I'm extra annoyed by things I try to limit my shopping or whatever it is that's winding me up.

I can't stand that, either, so now I stand with my cart behind me in line so no one will crowd me and take my space.

I also can't stand it when people who have a cart full of groceries use the U-scan machines without knowing how. It's especially annoying when someone has nothing but produce and they don't know how to scan/add the produce themselves.

Y'all need to come to my market - if there's a cart in the middle of the aisle, guarantee someone will move it before you even get there. We don't care, we're shoving the thing. :lmao:

Peeve - people who just stand in line, though the checkouts are free to move up to.

My market has banks of 4 checkstands, 2 left, 2 right, that you wait on one line for. People like, stand in the line until people have actually LEFT the store with their groceries. MOVE UP. If the person put their stuff on the belt, go over and put yours on, they'll be done in a minute. If someone is paying, GO put your stuff down, you're lollygagging and irritating us.

Also, quit trying to get in the express with a cart & then getting annoye when you get thrown out.

So for the flip-side...

I love when the man at the deli offers a slice of cheese for my toddler :)
(I always buy a 1/4 lb even if I don't need any cheese to keep her happy in the store, LOL)

I always try to reach for the divider and put it at the end of my groceries and appreciate when the person ahead of me does too.

One time I was having a coughing fit while shopping with my daughter and a man working in the produce section ran to get me a cup of water without even being asked.

I hate being crowded in the checkout line. If you or your cart get within two feet of me, it's going to take me a reeeeeeeeaaaaaaallllly long time to finish my transaction and move out of the line.

I hate it when people bring their coffee into the store in throwaway cups and just leave the cups on any shelf they happen to be standing by when they're done. See this more and more.

Or the ones who decide they don't want that perishable item and leave it on a shelf by the check out. If you don't want it, give it to the cashier so he/she can get someone to take it back to refrigeration.

I have a lot of these peeves. My worse one the cashier bags stuff as she/he goes along. No problem this is it. They put chemicals in with your food. You know like soap & liquids. Who ever taught them to bag. Oh & they put freezer food in with your dry foods, even though they were separated on the belt

They need a sign for those reunions, at least you know to come back later...:rotfl2:

Or the little food cups for test tasting, they leave it in the cart. Yuck

I hate, hate, hate when the cashier scanning the groceries shuts off the conveyer belt and reaches for the items instead of letting the items move up to her. Irks me because that leaves me with no room to fit all my stuff on there.

I also hate it when the cashier and bagger never acknowledge that I'm there. Too busy talking about getting wasted the night before or how Sue is always late or didn't bother to show. A little hello goes a long way. I do ask how they are doing so that gets the conversation flowing.

I hate how some people think the centre of an aisle is a good place to stop for a conversation. they block the way with their carts then then look at you like you are a huge inconvenience to them when you try to get past. This also applied to people with screaming kids in strollers who think the entrance doorway to a store is also a good place to stop for a conversation.

I hate when I have more than 15 items but the only register open is the 15 items or less one. What am I supposed to do?
