OK. I have been to Goodings, and they have a desent selection, but their prices are high!!! I shop at Walmart at home, so that is out. How is Publix? I would like a store that has a good selection of cheeses, good deli, fun foods that we wouldn't normally get a Walmart.

We always go to the Winn Dixie on Apopka Vineland Rd. If you were going to Goodings from the Fort you would turn left instead of right when you hit Apopka Vineland RD. The WD is on the right about a mile down the road. They have a deli section. The store is never crowded, its clean and the prices are good

Winn Dixie is cheaper, Publix is nicer. That's about how it goes on average in Florida. Publix will have a better selection of what you're looking for, and they normally have a much better deli than Winn Dixie. Publix isn't that much more than Winn Dixie, but on the whole Winn Dixie tends to be cheaper (it also tends to look cheaper as well, but that's just my opinion).

If I have to pick, I will always pick the Publix over the Winn Dixie. Just a better quality selection, nicer staff, better deli (Publix sandwich subs are the greatest things ever!!!!), and overall it just feels cleaner.

If we need groceries only we go to Publix, I like them better than the stores around home. If we need to do a power shop for EVERYTHING we go to Walmart.

Ok. Thanks for the info. It will be Publix. I think my mom liked publix's too when she lived in FL. (she left after the hurricanes of 04. Bummer)

We are coming from the airport....via rental car. What is the best location to stop at a Publix's? Or should we just check in first and head to the closest one?

Check in first, then go shopping. To get to Publix, go the same way as you would go to Goodings, but hang a right on SR 535 & follow to Hwy 192 (about 7 miles). The plaza with Publix will be on the left just prior to Hwy 192. You will also pass a Super Wal-Mart on the right if you go to this Publix.

The Winn-Dixie on SR 535 is one of the nicer Winn Dixie's, and is a lot closer than Publix (about 4 miles from the Fort, verses 9-10 miles to go to Publix.)

As a Floridian, I prefer to shop at Publix, but when you are on vacation, time is of the essence. The Winn-Dixie would be your better choice. PLUS, there's an ice cream shop in the same plaza as W.D. and a Walgreen's across the street!!!:thumbsup2

If you wish to dine off property, there is an Olive Garden on the SE Corner of SR 535 & Palm Pkwy, a Ci-Ci's Pizza Buffet one block east of SR 535 on Palm Pkwy, a Hooters about 1 block further down from Ci-Ci's, and (my fav) a Miller's Ale House on the NW corner of SR 535 & Palm Pkwy. The Ale House is a sports bar, but they have a really nice dining area & terrific menu with reasonable prices. There are many more restaurants in this area, but I've only named the ones I've eaten at.

ENJOY!!!

Yum, Ale Houses. ZINGERS PLEASE!!!

Oh, and don't forget the nice tall and cold beer as well!

The Wal-mart is exactly 4 miles from Downtown Disney. That's where we go. Same prices we have here in Alabama :)

That must be a longer way to get to the Publix which I believe is closer than the Winn Dixie or Goodings. If I knew the names of the roads I would give them to you but I just know how to get there. I just know you take a left coming out of Ft. Wilderness, then your first right, then another right on the main drag (I think it is the 2nd light) and then a left at the fire house and then a left on Osceola. Go about 1 mile to International Dr. where the Gaylord Hotel sits and take a right. Go about another mile and the Publix is on your left. A quick and easy 3 or 4 miles...give or take.

Thanks everyone. Don't you just love these boards. I have saved so much time and money just from reading these boards.

Another vote for the Winn Dixie. It's only a few minutes from the FW front gate when going out the back way from the Fort to Apopka-Vineland Road.

:woohoo: Bama ED

We usually go to the Publix on 192 just East of toll529. Its not quite as crowded and just as easy to get to if you go out Black lake rd (I think?)

Small world, I grew up in Waterford and can remember when there was almost nothing west of the airport.
