Groceries

When we get a 2 bdr. with family we will fly and will not be renting a car. My mother thinks it's absolutely horrible to think of cooking on vacation so we won't be using the kitchen much but would like breakfast and lunch type items so we can eat out maybe one big meal a day...I know groceries can be ordered through DVC but can't find info on it. Are the prices average? Is there a fee? How do these fees prices compare to NetGrocer?

Well, then I hope your mother will be helping to pay for some of those pricey WDW meals!!!

You can find the grocery lists on the member web site. Click on "Plan Your Getaway" and you should see a link to the individual resort shopping lists. Prices are included.

Don't know how they compare to Netgrocer, but I found many of the prices to be 75-100% more than what you would pay in a normal grocery store.

Have you considered airport transportation that would give you a grocery stop? One of the site sponsors (FL Tours, I believe) offers round-trip transporation for under $100, and will give you 30 minutes at a grocery store on the way.

Funny thing is I was hoping my mom would do some cooking because she's such a great cook (I"M NOT!) and usually enjoys cooking and is pretty cheap...Guess I was wrong
THanks for the advice on getting a car with a grocery stop. I guess it's going to cost some $ to get from the airport, might as well get groceries on the way

I went to the website and looked at the grocery lists, it seems like their is not much selection, am i missing something?

Nope. That's about it. I believe they are the same items that you can buy at the "General Store"-type shop at each of the resorts.

You're far better off with a grocery stop if it fits into your plans.

Other options people have done --

The mentioned netgrocer (www.netgrocer.com). They are fine for certain things, not good for others - horrible for pop (soda to people from other parts) for instance.

Goodings will deliver. Their prices are not cheap, there is a $50 minimum plus a $10 delivery fee.

Albertsons will have your order ready for pickup. Fax it a day or two ahead and all you have to do is stop in and pay for it.

Ship a few groceries down. We found Disney prices on eggs and milk to be reasonable - what was out of sight was cheese, pop tarts, laundry detergent, cereal, snack foods, pop, etc. Some of that stuff is as easily shipped as bought.

We won't bother with a grocery stop again. The stuff we really used can be either shipped ahead, bought at the store (and if we pay an extra $5 or $10 for it, big deal), or ordered from netgrocer.

There is another thread that talks about groceries active right now. That thread has info on things like faxing Albertsons.
