So, what kinda person are you?

Do you come to the DIS for information, confrontation, the DVC any combination of these and other reasons?

Here is my 'story':

Believe it or not, I almost always come to the DIS for the DVC section only. I don't want or desire confrontation here, but I always seem to get/cause it!

I used to get all caught up in the COMMUNITY sub of the main board, especially during the political open season, but after numerous warnings, complaints and attacks, I quickly stopped visiting said sub.

I really enjoy the DVC sub for all of the priceless information and valuable strategies I have gotten from the masters.

I loved the DVC Community board, for just that, the sense of community with fellow DVCers. Until recently it has been tremendous fun, and I have made many cyber friends. (Probably more cyber enemies, but who really cares?)

I especially enjoyed the several 'silly' (or immature, childish, fun, YMMV) threads that we had running.

For some reason I haven't fully understood, the Moderators came down very hard on many of the 'fun' (i.e. immature) posters, and have limited us to one 'silly' thread, oh well, it is their board.

For me much of the magic of the DVC community board has been Eisnered out of existance (like the 20,000 league under the seas attraction!

For me, I plan to continue to read and learn from the DVC main sub-board, and lurk on the community board, very carefully posting from time to time!

Like I've posted before, the DVC Community Board is like Cheers...Where everyone knows your name.

I probably spend about 75% of my time on this board, 15% on the regular DVC Board and the rest thumbing through Park Strategies, Resorts, Restaurants and Transportation. But I'll admit, I'll post items that probably belong on those boards on this board b/c I have a better feel where y'all are coming from. :suck-up:

I check the CVS community board first every trip into the DIS. I used to chat more on the Park board, but feel more at home here. I also always check the DVC Forum side, but don't always have much to add since I am a new member.

I will occasionally (when everyone here is busy and things are slow) go over to the more general boards, but things tend to disolve into arguements and I don't want to argue in my place I come to escape. I LOVE a good debate, but dislike most conversations that are childish, namecalling, or in general "you are stupid" "no you are" stuff. (hence - I would bow out of political debates when people started calling names...and would be told I was being childish...but I believe if you can't debate without name calling, you have proven that your points are not very well thoughout - because - well...if you can't debate something you believe in, there isn't much thinking going on anyway).

I have been lurking on dis since I became a DVC member in 2001. I read all DVC threads as well as the restaurants, trip planning. and strategy threads. I mainly read to keep myself abreast of new changes and/or policies. With all this knowledge in one place it is hard not to find all your questions answered before you even ask them.

Even though it was only a little while ago, I can't remember (Mental Pause) why I actually came to the Disboard. But I soon became enamoured of the DVC board, where I learned so much about DVC that I bought one!!!!

And there has been no looking back, or else I'm addicted.

Tony, since my 'Where the Hanname Is Greenban 'thread disappeaed into cyberspace, I have come to believe that you probably ticked off just one mod a long time back (I wasn't here during the 'campaign diatribes' and that mod has been lurking, just trying to mess with ya! I say: don't let the bad guys win! Outlive them!

I was involved with one thread here, very early on that SHOULD have been closed. I started the thread, and it became a namecalling pyschogarbage thread instead of an info gathering thread (I think it was right before I purchased DVC and had some significant questions.) I tried mediating between people, but I discovered that some people are really damaged goods.
Anyway, I enjoy the time I spend here and plan on coming back and participating in silly threads, learning from the knowledge threads and ignoring the name-calling threads. And Llovell, my opinion of namecallers is that they are stuck back in the 6 year old emotional self...they don't have any other technique available for trying to get their opinion out except by putting down a different opionion. And when they get called on it, they retreat to it being about their own feelings being hurt and misunderstood.

Well I'm off to call MS to see if I can get another vacation planned !

I like to come and read Disney and DVC news.

I will express my opinion but have no desire to debate or otherwise try to push it across. If someone counters what I've said, I usually just move on if they are just countering my opinion. I'm free to state my opinion, and I really just don't care if someone disagrees.

I'm interested in others opinions, but don't take them as fact or fiction, just as opinions.

I like to help newbies and to give my own perspective of why I like or don't like resorts. And I do it without feeling put upon when someone doesn't agree and hope that I express my honest opinions without trashing another resort too.

I like to read about other members, who they are, what they do, about their families.

I get bored and distracted at work.

And I suppose, I need a life.

I found the DIS when I started seriously researching a purchase of DVC. That was ten years after our first tour and many times passing kiosks and watching the VWL being built. It was early to mid 2002. I researched many sites but found myself drawn to this one continuously. Certain posters were regularly helpful, eager to share what they knew, give advice, and answer the constant questions of new comers. Late in 2002 I thought it appropriate to become a supporting member of this great site and hopefully give back a little.

There are very many interesting people here, with a great sense of humor -- some of it taking some getting use to. Some of our interesting posters have come and gone and we will surely miss those taken from us suddenly.

I still think it is a great way to enjoy the company of others who share a passion for Disney and DVC.

Sometimes I wish posters on other boards were more tolerant of differing viewpoints. I especially am intrigued with the quick responses re: breastfeeding, strollers, wheelchairs and ECVs, and of course pool hopping and mug questions.

I always strive to provide helpful and IMO honest info about our WDW experiences. I maintain that the Disney magic is memories you create with your family, and that doesn't always mean staying on site. *Horrors, I know*

The boards I most often frequent are TPAS, DVC Community, Orlando and Other Attractions, Resorts, Restaurants, and Transportation. I used to visit Budget a lot and have followed the Sorrentino, and $26 a day threads there.

And you can find my pic on the Community Board thread about the Boston meet with Dan Murphy. Can you believe, I was nervous about going?

Basically, this has become the only board I read and reply on. So I'm easy to avoid!

In Dis terms I'm a late bloomer, only discovering it about a year-and-a-half ago, but I'm trying to make up for lost time.

Found lots of good advice and planning tips, also enjoy sharing my interests and love of all things HHI.

I'm glad we have different opinions, and I've never lost a day of sleep over another's point of view (no matter how whacked they are! )

Anyway, whether y'all like it or not, I'll be posting as long as they let me, (especially that nice lady who pulled one of my favorite threads), looking for the humorous side of things, often typing faster than my brain is thinking, and adding my 2 cents when it is usually least appreciated.

I think things change over time and hot topics go in and out. When I first started reading this board, people who said they stayed in a 1 bdr with 2 adults and 3 kids were really, really flamed. You had people arguing fire codes, quoting the contracts, debating how much pool water, bus space, oxygen, etc. that extra 4 year old would take up. Now I read quite often that people with 3 kids stay in a 1 bdr and no one attacks them. Now, 9 in a 2 bdr, that's a different story LOL!

I don't get worked up about the other topics you mention, especialy the refillable mug thing-that's just ridiculous to me.

I was part of the thread ColoradoBelle is talking aobut and it did get ugly. I try to stay away from threads like that from now on.

Well, I came to teh DVC Forum when getting ammo to comnvince my dh to buy DVC last year. I like to think I was just getting info to make up my own mind, but I must admit I just wanted reasons to buy.

I thought I could vote for the #1 reason until I got to the life needed response. After teh hanname thread, I must admit, I need a life.

I hang at 2 other friendly boards (WISH and Cooking, Crafting, and Scrapping). I must admit that I spend most of my time in the DVC boards, though. The knowledge I've gained in a year is astounding, but I really come back for the laughs on teh DVC CB!

DVC Community Board is the first place I check every day when I sign in.

I did not find this forum until after we bought into DVC. And actually I found the website one day in EPCOT off of someone's lanyard we were seated with for dinner in Germany. They had the AllEars website on it which pointed me to this.

Never realized at the time what an obession it would turn into.

I always thought we were Dinsey know it all, but I have learned so much valuable information here. You can never know enough.

I bought 300 DVC points just so I could participate in this forum. I never even use them. I figure that gives me the right to flame whoever I want.


Actually, I'm used to the place now so I think I'll stay. It's really the best Disney forum.

Aside:
There are rides at Dollywood better than 20,000. The concept was great but the execution was lame (even when I was a young Disney fanactic in the 70's and LOVED everything Disney I thought it was lame). It either had to be totally redone or scrapped.

I suppose I like the DVC forums the most because there's a greater sense of connectedness because of the membership/ownership aspect. Plus, it's amazing what can be learned just by lurking (which is sometimes the safest way to visit any of the Disboards forums.

Having said that, it just seems that sometimes you can't express an opinion without someone adding their interpretation to what you said, and that's just not here on the DVC forum. I used to read the Community Board. I bet I haven't looked at that forum in over a year. In fact, except for the DVC forum, I don't see myself posting much on the other forums again. That certainly makes it less fun than it used to be but I guess that's life in general. People seem to be so short-tempered anymore.

I enjoy reading many of your posts and it would be nice to put a few names and faces together sometime.

I pretty much only come to the DVC boards as well. I do browse through the transportation and budget boards to see what kinds of good deals I can find on rental cars, etc. Otherwise, I just like to see what's happening with DVC and Disney in general.

Yeah, and hey, OneMoreTry, I would hate to see those 300 annual points go to waste! PM, and I'll take 'em off your hands!
