"Greedflation" at Disney?

Consumers enable companies like Disney to charge the prices they are asking for. If you're willing to pay it, (and a lot of people are) then you can't knock the company for making every penny it can. No one is entitled to a vacation at a price they demand. You are either comfortable paying for it or not, just like anything else on this planet.

Stop going to Disney and watch the prices drop. As long as the customer enables the greed, it will continue.
When I look at rates for this summer it seems to be happening already. The $800-$1,000 post covid rates for standard rooms are falling back to - well maybe not earth - but closer to pre-covid levels at least.

I don't mind the prices have gone up as they have in many other areas.
What I mind is the hassles of G and LL and losing many of the previous benefits AP and FL residents enjoyed.

I notice a lot of folks try to determine greed based on what it takes to provide a good or service vs what is charged. That has never been the way anything was ever priced at Disney. Disney's price have almost always been as high as they can charge, at least in modern times, even when inflation wasn't a factor. It's business. They are there to make money, not to offer deals at below market value. The exact opposite of a non-profit.

Disney attendance had been steadily rising every year from 2009 to 2019, even as prices have increased. So if you're charging more money and more people are still visiting, what else should a company do?

Vacations are a free market. If Disney or Hawaii are too expensive, grab a hotel room on a different beach or head to a national park.

I don't think anybody likes paying higher prices. But so many examples posted here (and some have commented) are discretionary. $18 for a crappy beer at a stadium is a choice. I bet if people stopped drinking them, the market would adjust. You can undoubtedly call it greed or, if you are on the business side - smart business.

Agreed, but that doesn't help people who've already paid $800/night for a basic hotel room or, more likely, $7 for a dozen eggs or gallon of gas, two other industries with recently alleged price fixing tactics.
The answer is, you don't pay $800. too may other option in the world.

Gas is the only necessity in your list, and that can be managed .

A long as consumers continue to show up and pay the price gouging rates then of course prices will continue to go up. why support price increases by lining up to pay them?

i agree with everything you're saying, i just wouldn't call it price gouging.

Well yeah, luxury hotels are going to cost money. Hence the name. And yes, those are going to always be the first to have price increases. But it's very possible to do Hawaii or Disney for anywhere else for a lot less. Of course you'll have to put up with rif raf like me. But I promise I won't bite.

I feel like Disney still offers a good value. Park tickets might be expensive, that truly might be the most “greedy“ part. if you qualify for AP, and are able to use it enough, it is a lot less greedy in my view.

The food I find to be a reasonable price. I find the souvenirs and gifts to, overall, be fairly priced for what they are.

Hotel costs I find to be too high, especially for on-property resorts.

Spot on. It's a business. They should charge what the market will pay.

If you're struggling to justify staying on-property, I stayed at All Star Music recently, and it reminded me how great of an option these hotels are. The pools and food court are huge to accommodate all the guests, and busses were constantly running every morning and night for the big rush of people. They aren't the same value accommodations they were 10 years ago, but are comparable to off-site hotels like courtyards or hamptons and come with on-property perks.

I just had a great stay at All-Star Music. The busses were quick and always there. Sometimes they stopped at the others during the day when it's slow, but usually it was dedicated. I don't think I waited more than 5 minutes for a bus at all! The room was nice and recently refurbished. It was nice!

We've stayed at an All-star in the past, are they at all comparable to a Deluxe, no, but for what they are i would consider them a good option. IMO people as of late want the Deluxe experience, and they have been priced out which is driving a lot of the animosity towards Disney. In other words, it's not that value resorts are a bad offering, it's that people can't afford Deluxe hotels any longer, and Value resorts can't offer the same experience they're accustomed to

For me, the values work well because I don't spend hardly any time in the room. I hit the parks at open and leave near close. As long as the room is clean and the bed is comfortable, I'm all set. I like the convenience. My favorites is Pop Century becasue it is the most convenient of all!

We stayed at the Pop as well, the bus lines did get a little egregious at some points, especially for MK first thing in the morning. Other than that, i thought it was a great offering, well themed, and convenient for sure

I never see bus lines "first thing" in the morning, but I'm always there literally first thing, one of the earliest busses out! I know they build for people who get up at a more reasonable time. 🤣

i was a 20 something when we stayed there, no kids or responsibilities. So late starts were my life haha
