"Greedflation" at Disney?

For me, the values work well because I don't spend hardly any time in the room. I hit the parks at open and leave near close. As long as the room is clean and the bed is comfortable, I'm all set. I like the convenience. My favorites is Pop Century becasue it is the most convenient of all!
The thing was, even if you weren't going from open to close, the pools and common areas were still nice. Definitely better and more well themed than any ordinary hotel you'd get off-site.

We've stayed at an All-star in the past, are they at all comparable to a Deluxe, no, but for what they are i would consider them a good option. IMO people as of late want the Deluxe experience, and they have been priced out which is driving a lot of the animosity towards Disney. In other words, it's not that value resorts are a bad offering, it's that people can't afford Deluxe hotels any longer, and Value resorts can't offer the same experience they're accustomed to
I'm a longtime Pop Century fan, but it's been hard to justify once it went over $200/night. That's just ridiculous.

I never see bus lines "first thing" in the morning, but I'm always there literally first thing, one of the earliest busses out! I know they build for people who get up at a more reasonable time. 🤣

Reasonable time at WDW is getting in line by 7 for the buses. This is the way.

This is why we love moderates as well. While we don’t spend a lot of time in the room we do take breaks and having some more options of fun things to do is worth it.
I haven’t been to a value in ages but would not mind going back at all if it were just for a long weekend!

Yeah, see, I tend tot ake quick trips. I was just there for three nights only. All-Star worked for me on that! I do think I'm getting to the point though there breaks are necessary - and if I am planning on that, I may try for some of the nicer ones.

I’ve been a WDW nerd since I was 8. I went through the parks-all-day years too. I’m 57 now and while I’ll still RD, I’m out of the parks by 1pm and it’s the extended breaks and anticipation for dinner that I find most enjoyable about my trips these days.

Yeah, I started to see the value in breaks on my last couple of trips with friends. Masks were still a thing and they take a lot out of ya! We were at POP, so we's skyliner it back and drop off shopping bags and such. My most recent trip, I was solo, so I did the all-day thing, but only did two full park days. I went to a water park ln my third day (leaving that evening), and it was a nice refresher. I think I may plan a nice break day, maybe a water park for a couple of hours, then just hanging out, for longer trips in the future.

I've been known, on solo trips when I'm down on business, to go to a park and not do a single ride. Just entertainment, dining, etc.

I just booked a weekend in June at Cabana Bay over at Universal (was around the price of POFQ just to compare) and the prices for the premier hotels with Express made me think about this thread. Portofino and Hard Rock were both at or over $900/night. I understand that you get Express and this is somewhat last minute but I want to know so bad who would actually pay that much for an average, not luxury hotel room lol It's the same at Disney when I see Polynesian, Riviera and Grand Floridian at $800+/night.

Also to whoever said Pop is over $200/night now, I saw that price for All Star Music/Movies this winter. Uh.......the All Stars are nowhere near worth that, sorry.

i think the convenience of being on property can make the All-Stars more sought after which would draw up the price. I think a massive part that people leave out of the value equation for Disney hotels is that you cannot just look at them at face value, the power of being on property means an awful lot to an awful lot of people

Yup, I agree and totally get why they're priced that way. Personally there is no way I could pay over $200 for the All Stars. The rooms and amenities are not worth that price. I do think their bus service in general is way better than most deluxe resorts but that's a YMMV thing.

In what sense? The transportation is inconvenient and unreliable at best and other than that there's really next to no benefit. 20 years ago you may be right.

I am all for businesses making money, profit, etc. but over the course of the last several years I’ve seen the disparity between corporate executives and the average person increase substantially.

Energy companies making record profits during an energy crisis. Healthcare companies making record profits during a pandemic. It’s gotten out of hand - hopefully we can get back to a happy medium within the travel/vacation industry as well.

It isn't "greedflation" but supply-and-demand.

WDW overbuilt itself in the 1990s, struggled with overcapacity in the 2000s and has seen demand surge since the 2010s. Disney hasn't built itself out to keep up with the demand, but should it? The unprecedented surge in demand we've seen since the 2010s is a combination of Boomers traveling in their retirement years + younger Millennials / Gen Z traveling at a far faster pace than their parents. But will it last? What happens when Boomers (inevitably) leave this Earth in masses? And Gen Z -- driving the premium leisure segment -- experiences a recession and becomes more conservative with its spending? Or begins spending its cash on home ownership?

Hawaii is the same. All of those beautiful, large, fantasy resorts built in the 1980s and 1990s were sold at heavy losses, particularly as Japanese visitors cut back on spending and domestic visitors fell. Then suddenly, things reversed and demand outpaced supply. In 2007, before the recession, I regularly got the Hilton Waikoloa Village for $60-$80/night on Priceline. They practically change that for a per night resort fee today...

Not trying to be funny, but that is literally the sentiment during every economic challenge. The rich have become even richer on the backs of the middle and lower class.

There have been ups and downs across different sectors, I’m sure travel and tech would be singing a different tune if you asked them.

The point I’m attempting to make is that the economy is a lot more complicated then painting with a broad brush, that is an easy way out of critical thinking imo

It's not painting it with a broad brush when most executives are getting paid absurd if not record levels during times of turmoil and oftentimes corporate failure.

The stock has tanker under Chapek and not Iger and both have been rewarded along with their cronies.

The system is built to literally reward executives with a lifetime pay day even if they fail. You can't say that about really any lower level position.

I actually both these points have merit to them.
