HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!:hippie:

QUESTION: DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR COMFORTABLE SHOES FOR OUR WDW TRIP IN JUNE? I WILL BE USING AN ECV, BUT I WILL STILL WALK SOME WITHIN THE RESORT, RESTAURANTS, ETC. I AM HEAVYSET, UNDER 200 POUNDS AND HAVE MULITPLE BACK ISSUES. I USUALLY USE NEW BALANCE OR CROC RX RELIEFS, BUT DIDN'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAD TRIED SOMETHING BETTER. I DON'T USE AN ECV DURING NORMAL EVERYDAY LIFE SO I DO WALK EVERYWHERE I GO. THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS YOU CAN TOSS MY WAY! :thanks: HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

I would say that 99% of the time I either wear New Balance or stap sandals. When I am wearing slacks and dressed up I will wear Hush Puppies. I've never tried Crocs since they don't make them larger than a men's 11.

Side note - on the left side of your keyboard is a button marked "Caps Lock". Please turn it off; it makes your post hard to read, and in Internet posting is considered shouting.

Sorry CheshireFigment! Don't do a lot of "chatting" other than DIS and forgot all caps meant shouting! Thanks for the reminder!:thumbsup2

I have had a bad back for years and even walking all the miles that you do in WDW .. Last Year FOR THE FIRST TIME... MY BACK DID NOT HURT !!

Neither did my legs. I wore the "Caymans" the "Mary Janes" did not give the support where I needed it.

Hi,

One thing I'd remember is that it can hurt your feet to wear a new pair of shoes for a long period of time. I think that it's best to take 2 or 3 or your most comfortable shoes and then switch them out if necessary.

Just in case anyone doesn't know, those are different versions of Crocs.

Good suggestion.
I have never worn these, but the DH of someone on the radio in our area had a bad accident a few years ago and injured his back badly. He had constant pain until he started wearing Z-coil shoes. They are a bit weird looking, but I have heard good things about them.

Thanks Sue! I already wear Crocs RX Reliefs to school a lot, but I'm always on the lookout for something even better!

i too have back issues (crushed my coccyx(sp) parachuting as a teenager lol
i wear my crocs all the time except at school (and as a side comments arent there alot of teachers on the dis!)
walked around wdw with no trouble last time, even ended up buying dh and kids pairs whilst over in th US, dh has a new pair of mickey crocs now, which he now loves. rotfl.

Ditto on the Crocs (beach or Caymans) although the flip flops are ok too. I even wear them at home b/c we have a tile floor and I can't stand on it for more than a couple of minutes w/o extreme pain. I wear them everywhere at WDW-except V&A's; what I did notice though is at WDW i needed to wear the low socks, which I don't normally do-I think it was b/c of the extra walking. This year will be my first on wheels, so I don't think it will make as much of a difference.
Have a magical trip!
Nicole

Thanks Nicole! This will be my first trip with wheels too! I'm renting an ECV for the length of our stay. I'll let you know how it goes! I just hope I don't run into too many people!!!! Have a great night!

You might find using it around the resort is a big bonus. I was often sent on coffee runs for everyone cause of my basket. I loved puttering around the grounds.

HI, had back surgery in 05. Still doing nerve blocks and found New Balance sneakers work for me and also Ryka sandles that look much like the Tevas. They had great arch support and are nice and cool and adjust very well to most feet I would think, so there is no sliding around and flopping. QVC has them in black, tan and light blue. I just bought another pair for my may trip and hope not to need and ECV. Did the parks in Sept, wore sandles every day and walked every inch!
Have a great trip.:yay:

I love my SAS sandals. Can't wear Crocs due to foot pain, so I can't compare them to each other.
Very pricey though, but worth it for me. I now own 4 pairs! I try to buy a new pair every year (on sale or clearance, of course!) so I always have a pair when one wears out!

Birkenstocks work for me. I have degenerative disc disease, firbro myaligia & plantar fasciitis in my feet. ( And I move my DH around who has MD.) I've tried everything out there! Including many many exspensive orthortics. Birkenstocks work best for me. Still not pain free, but better than everything else I've tried!

I wondered about Birkenstocks! Thanks!
Thanks everyone for your help!!!:worship:
Have a great day!!!:cool1:

I love Birkies too. I do notice tho that there are different lines.
Birkenstocks, Papillio , birkies are all different lines. I found that I like the
birkenstock line best for comfort.
Definitely try them on first and walk around a good long time... in any shoes in store before you spring good money. That is why I order mine thru QVC or online shoes or zappos. because you can return them!

You can go to the online discount sites like onlineshoes or zappos and look at them all. I break in all shoes before I hit the kingdom. <G>
Nancy:yay:

Crocs RX Relief are the best Crocs I have ever worn, and I wear them all the time now as they are so comfortable and make my back feel so much better when I do walk....:worship:

Caymens and beach are ok but do not offer the extra thickness of the sole that the Relief ones do.

I ride a scooter while at WDW and get off to walk into attractions or shows normally and they work so well for me...:thumbsup2

proffession and they help relieve the back pain I have. My crocs do not do this. They are pricey-about 175.00 when I bought them, but worth not having the pain in my back when I am up walking all day. I was considering getting a pair of sandal style for Disney.

I have a congenital back disorder and have found Keens to be the most amazing shoe ever. (MY DH is able to go w/out his prescription orthotics with his Keens.) They are the only shoes I will take to Disney and, infact, since I discovered them, they are pretty much all I wear. (Have clog/maryjane ones for work and tennis shoe ones for going to the gym.) I honestly, credit them with being as mobile as I am and with helping me put off my third surgery MUCH longer than my back doctor or I expected. They are expensive, but as you know, when you have a physical limitation you pay what it takes for comfort.

Goodluck on your hunt and have a great trip!:goodvibes

ps - I found Crocs bothered my back a LOT -not enough support for my back.
