Great Ship But the food????.....

Food is a very subjective thing. I have cruised on Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Disney - and all had very good food most of the time. I had no complaints about the food on my first Wonder cruise in January - and Palo's desserts were exceptionally good.

It beats the heck out of NCL food !

I've never been on DCL, I'm really excited that our first trip is less than a month away. So, please take this question with a grain of salt, but when I go to a really nice restaurant and I really don't like something, I send it back and ask for something else.

Does anyone do that on DCL? :confused3 I'm not going to be a happy camper if my cheesecake tastes like "jello" or my chocolate cake is "inedible." I'll send it back and try the next thing on the menu.

We're sailing on the Wonder this weekend, and with as many Wonder cruises as we have under our belt, we should be able to judge pretty accurately if there's been any change. Hopefully not!

I was on both the Wonder and the Magic within a week of each other and I just got home.

I have had much better servers on the Wonder than the Magic. My two favorite are on the Wonder to this day I go up and say Hi to them every time I cruise. My Magic servers have been less than memorable. The food is pretty much the same on both ships. The Wonder has a different menu in AP than the Magic has.
The Magic recently served the new Mexican Rivera menu while I was onboard. I have not had a bad experience with the food.

My best advice is if they bring you something you don't like ask for something else. The servers are very accommodating.

Hey Barb….I think I had your suite “5650” on the Wonder

Just back from our 1st cruise 4/24 3nights on the Wonder and I have to say that it was not bad at all. I really enjoyed Tritions, but the other 2 restaurants may not have been the best but they weren't all that bad neither. I'd eat there again. :) :) :)

We also sailed on the Magic in April and thought the food was just ok in the dining room. We did think that the food at Palo was excellent, and were even impressed with the BBQ food on Castaway Cay. We thought it was ok and the the first day off the boat we went to Le Cellier and then we really thought the food onboard could have been better.

Funny, we had cruised with Royal Caribbean last summer for our first cruise, so we were comparing the two experiences and that was the one area where RC was defintely better. At least on the two ships we did.

Absolutely they will do this. We have always found the serving teams very concerned that we enjoy our meals and if looks like someone isn't enjoying their selection, they always ask. Even if they don't ask, you for sure can tell them something isn't to your liking and they'll get you something else. Not only that, but unlike a land based restaurant, you can order multiples of anything, I'm notorious for having two or three appitizers. And I've gotten multiple entrees as well.

So don't hesitate to ask for something else, to have something prepared specially or prepared again.

Yes, you could send your dish back if it was not to your liking. I just found that it would have added to the time that the dining already took. We had the late, 8:30pm seating, so on most nights we finished, at the earliest 9:45pm. We were at a table of 8 and I noticed that on one of the nights, 3 people had ordered the halibut, and all three only ate a few bites. I guess most guests, at that late hour, don't want to add additional time for the meal.

Yes, I agree that taste in food, is subjective to a point. But if you have dined at the restaurants at Disney World, say Kona Cafe, LeCellier, Boma and the list goes on.. you will notice a SUBSTANTIAL difference in the preparation and quality of the food that is used in the dishes on the Wonder. THAT is my point. The quality of the food wasn't as good, eg. the filet wasn't overcooked on the Wonder, it was just a poor piece of meat. Stretchers put in the scrambled eggs at Beach Blanket buffet - so that you could hardly recognize the taste or texture of scrambled eggs.

Now, for those who desire a blander menu, The Wonder Menu provides that. Each night you can choose a NY strip steak, salmon or grilled chicken that is prepared without spice and is served with steamed veggies.

But Disney lovers have come to expect excellence from Disney (as well they should) so I guess my dissapointment in the food on this Wonder Cruise *May 1-4, was because of my previous experience at the parks and on the Magic.
Thanks for everyone's input. And BTW, could someone direct me to the online survey for Disney Cruiseline???

Woo hoo! How did you like it? I LOVE the almost total absence of hallway traffic back there. That's where we're at once again this weekend.

I did not post to start an argument, but Yes this is YOUR opinion and it is valid and you're entitled. My point was offer perspective to those folks who read these posts and get all worked up that they are not going to enjoy the food, or whatever the constructive critisism is. There was already one poster who responded that they are now worried that their cruise won't be as good.

Yes, yes, this is a free flowing forum and open discussion, no arguments, and your thoughts again are valid and belong. I again, just wanted to offer a different perspective to the readers.

Hi Again and thanks for everyone's input.

I'm not trying to upset any future cruisers, but again if no one complains how will things get better? And do I want GREAT food for all of Disney's future cruisers (including me!!)??? Yes!!! So having read the post, I found that I was not the only one who had tasted a difference. And most companies genuinely value your feedback so that they can improve. I think Disney will get the message loud and clear.

Oh and I do want to mention that the panini sandwiches and the Oriental wraps near the Mickey pool were very good!! Make sure you get there before they close at 7pm!!

:thumbsup2

Hi again,

Yes, I did fill out the comment card at the end of the 3-day Wonder Cruise and I encourage everyone to fill it out. Again, I expect Disney quality food on one of their cruises and why shouldn't everyone? We are paying top dollar for a Disney cruise - the ship, the venues, the shows are all top notch - shouldn't the food be excellent as well?? I hope that Disney takes their comment card feedback seriously. And I hope that they monitor the DisBoards. The only way it will improve, as it should, is for cruisers to give them feedback.... As I said before, I can diet at home. I want GREAT food on a cruise!!! And it is NOT impossible to make excellent food for 2,000+ cruisers. It has already and is being done on other cruise ships.

Thanks for listening.

I would suggest also emailing them through the "contact us" on the bottom of the disneycruise.com website

I had some excellent dishes that I'm still dreaming about. And after cruising NCL I know what bland food really is!

Hi ,

We just returned from the May1st 3 day Wonder to the Bahamas. We have been on 2 previous 7 day cruises on The Magic. The best thing was that the ship is gorgeous, everything was immaculate.

The worst thing was that the food was pretty bad. I was terribly dissapointed after having what I thought was great food on the Magic. It seems that in an effort to cut costs -the food has taken the "hit". They even managed to ruin filet mignon!! It was tough and had grissle in it. Also one evening, my side dish was mashed frozen peas. Nothing on the menu was a stand out. My DD had a peach ginger cheesecake - but there seemed to be no cream cheese in it - it had a jello like consistancy. My chocolate cake was so dry and tasteless- that I only ate half of it.

Now, we had stayed the night before the cruise at Disney and had eaten at LeCellier - the mushroom filet mignon ( cooked the same way that the above one was cooked -medium) was excellent, tender, flavorful and the mushroom risotto was "too die for". My husband had the mushroom risotto as an appetizer on the Wonder and it was terrible. I could taste no butter or cream in any of the food items that could have used it!!

The menu was not appealing. They introduced the chef, who was from Jamaica. It also appears that the food has been downgraded in the buffets as well. The eggs had so much "filler" that they were inedible.

We were going to book while on board for another 7 day cruise, but the cost of the cruise was so expensive and the prospect of bad food made us pause.

Sorry to give this report, I love Disney and have always been pleased with the food at the resorts, at the parks and on the Magic. What is going on??

Wow, I don't like reading that. That sounds positively terrible.
I sure hope you are going to let DCL know that you had issues with the food.

Sorry this happened :)

DH and I think the Wonder is the "practice" cruise ship. The employees have to work their way up to the Magic.

We could be wrong, but we noticed a difference between the two, too.

That would make me extremely unhappy und very unfair of DCL and not selling the cruise on the "practice ship" for the price they're selling them for.

I am so afraid now. I think I may have made a mistake booking with DCL.:sad1:

I've never been on DCL, I'm really excited that our first trip is less than a month away. So, please take this question with a grain of salt, but when I go to a really nice restaurant and I really don't like something, I send it back and ask for something else.

Of course this is a great way to remedy the situation

Don't fret, Googelibear, and don't be a-skeered!

I think the odds are that you and yours will have a very good dining experience. Most folks do ... admittedly, some don't, but that would be true most anywhere.

FWIW, our first cruise was on the Magic - years ago - and found the Wonder's food significantly better.

All reviews, good 'uns and bad 'uns, reflect the subjectivity of the writer. Sometimes meals are gross by any standards, true. You won't know until you take that first bite, and everyone's palates are different. If you were to listen to my DW's opinions, you'd never ever touch seafood of any type because it's "awful." Well, my mouth tells me better.

Go for it, and enjoy! :thumbsup2

I just got back from the Wonder litterly a couple of hours ago and I agree.. The only time that I really had a problem was breakfast.. The eggs were AWFUL.. I got Micky Waffles one morning and they were so bad that I could only have one bit.. And That is what I had been waiting for.. And the night that I had Tritans there was nothing that I liked and ended up getting some room service after the pirate party

I have never had a bad meal on the Wonder in four cruises. I was surprised to find after hearing people comment on how much better the food was on RCCL, that our meals on RCCL were almost unedible, and we are not picky. I guess it must be a matter of taste.
