Great Ship But the food????.....

This will be our 5th Disney Cruise and although the food is not 5* quality, I would say it's better than average, and IMHO, MUCH BETTER than Carnival.

I'm not a huge fan of the buffet, so we usually eat up at one of the 'fast food' places on D9...think I ate about 8 cheeseburgers on my last cruise. Would defiantely agree that the menus need to be updated for all of us 'repeat cruisers'. Palo is by far one of our favorate things to do on the ship, we love it more with each visit.

As for Cookies BBQ, the food isn't steller BUT it's not awful either. Hopefully with this cruise, Disney Double Dip, we'll have different food the second day at CC.

I sold software to the catering industry across the country and to say it's an excuse to feed so many is tough is not valid. When your in the business it's very easy to feed several thousand people with no problem. Remember that's what these people get paid to do. I've been in many places that thought nothing of feeding 5,000 people in a evening.

This thread is very interesting, just from the sheer number of posts/replies it's generated. There are as many posts on this 'food quality' thread as there are on the "Establishing Rules for your Tween-agers Independence while On-Board" thread. I guess that just means folks are as passionate about their eating expectations as they are about raising their children.
I imagine the real challenge DCL faces with their food is not how to serve the huge volume of diners -- rather, it's probably more of a challenge to appease so many varied tastes/expectations.
We'll be on our 6th DCL cruise in a couple of weeks, and we've always been at least satisfied, and very frequently, pleasantly suprised by the quality and selection of the food. But then again, my expectations are probably lower than some, as I'm not a "foodie." At least I think I'm not. I like the molten chocolate round thing, with the warm vanilla sauce on top, at Palo's. Does that make me a "foodie?"

Actually, when I go on a cruise, the food is an integral part of the complete package, just like the entertainment, the ship, the excursions, etc. Disney usually does ALL these things really well, meaning they meet the highest expectations. The food on the Wonder was just downright dissapointing compared to the rest of the cruise. I just kept "wondering" when it would get better. It never did. Could it be that Disney keeps these ships filled with FL residents who pay a much lower last minute price, so they go 'cheap' on the food, whereas, The Magic may not cater to the Fl last minute crowd. Just and observaton.

My DH is right there with you . . . there are so many outstanding restaurants here in Vegas now and when we go out for special occasions it's always a great dining experience when we can go to Craftsteak at the MGM Grand or Il Fornaio at NYNY or Olives at Bellagio. He compared the food on our recent cruise to fine dining in Las Vegas and said the food wasn't the same. Of course it isn't the same!

Hi, again, I didn't expect 5 star dining on the Wonder - only I did expect it to be Disney quality, like, perhaps their resort or park restaurant food. I also expected it to be as good as the food on my previous Disney cruises (which were on the Magic). I don't think that is asking too much.

Disney is usually alll about quality. What's happening here? Or has it gotten better in the last couple of months..?? Is Disney listening??

We were on the May 25 Wonder Cruise, and I thought the food was great. The previous time we were on the Wonder was 3 years ago. We were on the Magic about 5 years ago on a 7-night cruise. I can't imagine why the food would be any better or worse, on the Wonder vs. the Magic (as some had said they think the food on the Magic is better). We had no complaints to make about the food when we sailed in May.

Don't fret. It's all o-so-subjective. I just don't kinow of many people who have matching taste buds. Compare my taste to DW's, for instance, and you'd think we'd bumped into each other from parallel universes.

Thanks... I was starting to worry. We've been on the Magic for our last 3 cruises and decided to try the Wonder this year over New Years (4 day). After reading what people had to say, I was beginning to think that maybe we made a mistake. Was the Wonder a notch below? How could that be? Would Disney really go out of their way to cut costs on one ship and not the other or both? I hope not. The prices have sure gone up since 2003! Oh, I hope others who enjoyed their recent cruise on the Wonder will post.

I just returned from the 3 night Wonder and all our food was fantastic! I tried a couple of new things that I didn't really care for but I don't think that it had to do with the preparation or quality. And the dishes that I had to replace the un-liked food were really really yummy.

We are leaving for our 6th Disney Cruise this Sunday (June 29th). We've always had a great food experience on both the Magic and Wonder. Maybe we're just easy to please I think generally, the food is very good.

Up to this point there were 95 posts including your original question. Of those 95, here is the breakdown:

1 = Didn't feel the food was good or bad
28 = Positive comments about the food on Wonder
26 = Negative comments about the food on Wonder (9 of which are Kimberly's)
40 = Non-position, or scared because you keep railing on the food, or duplicate posts trying to talk the scared off the ledge.

You have almost 11% of all the posts -all except one I included in the negative numbers. We FULLY understand you do not like the food on board. Even though DREAMFINDER2 and ALLEARS were extremely nice in trying to explain that just because YOU don't like the food, doesn't mean it's bad - it really is subjective. But you can not leave it alone - it's almost like you are just trying to create an issue. For everone's sake - leave it alone - If you want to do something positive about it, pick up the phone and call the head of DCL and have a conversation about it. We all know where you stand on this and quite frankly your message is lost at this point.

So go ahead and try to flame me now - it's what you've done to everyone on here who has not agreed directly with you.

I've mentioned this many times on this thread. I honest to God said to DH on our Wonder trip in May, this food is by far the best we've had on all 7 of our cruises. We've only travelled on the Magic prior to this trip. I know there have been times when I've developed a cold or allergy on the cruise and then the food wasn't quite as tasty, and another cruise I was pregnant, so of course things weren't quite as appealing, but otherwise, I've never had an issue w/ the food on any of my cruises. The food on the Wonder was very good on our trip in May.
