Kinda makes you wonder if the building will stay the Chinese Theater or if they'll Mickey Ear it or something.

I'm excited about the new ride. Ive always thought the great movie ride was boring and outdated. This is a strategic and well thought out plan to bring people back into this park. It's going to help with attendance in a huge way and is much needed! That being said, it's always been strange to me that we don't have a mickey ride in any wdw park considering how important mickey mouse is at disney so I think this will fit right in.

i mean toy story land and star wars land are going to bring people into the park more than this ride and will probably be done around the same time?

I watched the video of the announcement. I'm not digging the style of animation at all. I think it looks cheap and underdeveloped. Mickey doesn't look anything like the classic Mickey. The ears are shaped wrong, and the mouth is weird. The animation is what used to be called limited animation. I think Walt would have hated it.

I was thinking the same thing - although if the ride is that you "walk into the movie" keeping the Chinese Theater motiff works (and probably why they have the ride setup that way to begin with)

They still need a centerpiece for the park.

My family loves the Mickey shorts and is super excited that the people behind that show are going to be helping with this ride. I will miss the GMR because of nostalgia, but I think this will be a great addition to DHS. I am surprised that they are closing another attraction in DHS before the holiday season, though.

Wow, just next month Great Movie Ride closes, I just don't get that with already half the park closed off & other areas like sounds dangerous basically a nothing. Not a fan of that style of Mickey, they just look & act off. I hope it's not just a bunch of video screens, I can see that being motion sickness worthy if you're just zooming past videos. Oh well, I'm sure it will be neat, just not warmed up to the idea yet. All those poor GMR animatronics, it's sad. Were the rights to use those movies running out and that's a reason too?

I'd think they would need to keep the building facade as the Chinese Theater to maintain theming with Hollywood Blvd (turnstiles, crossroads of the world, shops, etc). Either that, or there would have to be some large visual barrier at the "hub" end of Hollywood Blvd. Perhaps a huge sorcerer hat? :badpc:

I agree with your take on the style they chose for Mickey. Not a fan of that particular look for the characters.

Based on the short clip they showed, it won't be just a bunch of screens though. The transformation of a set seemed kinda unique, so I'll wait until it's opened before I decide one way or the other. I think their choice of theme was a little uninspired, but it does keep the theme of the great movie ride where you end up being part of the show.

Well...I guess we will have to wait for the verdict. I enjoy trying new rides, this one just doesn't seem to interest me. Who knows, maybe it will be Great....here's hoping!

I too am surprised they are closing the GMR now. There's not much left at this park at this point.... unless they bring in some temporary "attractions" kind of like how they did the temporary jungle book show at AK until ROL was ready. Just to keep people coming until the new stuff opens.

I was confused by it, I watched that part and wasn't sure what it was they were showing, but if it's not all videos that's great!!

Wish they would give more than a month notice for these things

I mean it's not like Disney has things open for planning and booking ADRs 6 months in advance or FO 2 months in advance or anything .... oh wait

I recall from the earlier rumors that the facade was going to stay - just the inside will be gutted

And they have the two night time shows that use projection mapping on to it that are still new so probably would want to have to change all that

Hard to tell just from what they showed. It could be fully screen based, but the super short clip showed it done in a pretty unique way if so. I definitely can think of a few better ways they could have gone with the ride though. And not happy about yet another closure during my upcoming visit :(
