I'm very sad that I never got to experience it. I'm going next january but am considering skipping Hollywood Studios since most of the major attractions and areas will be in construction.I really looked forward to it.

I was hoping (and still don't understand why they didn't) that they would wait untill Star Wars and Toy Story were finished. Apparently not. DHS is going to be amazing in 2019, in 2018 however it will be awfull...

i feel like this is a positive change--the new ride looks really cool, and as much as i like the great movie ride, when i visited last week the ride was in poor shape and really showing its age. i feel like a frenetic mickey ride would add some energy to the theatre... and since it's inspired by mickey's 1930s design it fits the theme of hollywood boulevard pretty well! and it's the first ever mickey-focused ride in any disney park (which is kind of surprising)--i feel it'll lead to some great fun. i'm hoping for the best!!

It is very, very sad to see The Great Movie Ride closing. It's great that they're investing in the parks and I'm sure the new ride will be great and much more popular than The Great Movie Ride, but as a fan of film (and a film student) this ride struck a chord with me. Can't believe I'm never going to ride it again.

I do love this ride, but I'm excited for positive changes! I just booked our fastpass for the Saturday before it closes (the first Saturday after blackout dates). I'll be 38 weeks pregnant... hope I can make it for one more ride!

For those wondering here is the official word and guess what...last day is August 13th!!:sad2::sad1:

I like this idea better than the rumored "Disney movie history" concept. They would have focused far too much on the popular films that have tons of exposure in the Disney Parks already. At least this idea is original and unique to the parks and the tech they're planning to use sounds interesting.

RIP GMR.

Maybe it's just a delay in updating the system, but you can still book FP+ for GMR beyond Aug 13th. I looked everyday from Aug 14th though the last day of our trip, Aug 25th, and they are still available. Keeping fingers crossed that Aug 13th isn't etched in stone.

I hear ya, I'm still up in the air here on the whole thing.

But I do totally get your concern on the popular films that we probably already have plenty of information on rather than some past beloved ones.

Thanks, joelkfla. I see that now.

While I am excited for all the news today including the new Mickey ride, I must say that I am a little perplexed by the short notice of the closure of GMR. Disney has created a system where guests pick their FP+ 60-days in advance and yet they are OK giving less than 30-days notice to close a major attraction forever. Seems a little odd, but I do not want to complain about getting new attractions.

I agree. We are thrilled that we will be there to experience it one more time but that was not our HS day. Now we have to try to move FPs and ADRs. So frustrating that Disney would do this with such short notice since people have their FPs already.

YouTube is and always will be our ally

'Tis true. It's not the same for sure especially when you have CMs involved that directly impact your experience (which then can vary from ride to ride-think Jungle Cruise; at least that's how my mind sees it) BUT it is still something.
I'm actually weirdly bummed about the movie ride leaving. I just have fond memories of it, and it always made me get those "studios" feels. But times are a changin

Yeah..it wasn't my favorite ride but I did still enjoy it. Maybe I'm feeling like it's "the end of an era" type thing here because I'm honestly more sad than I originally thought I would be even knowing that it was very likely to be gone soon;that could also be in part because I don't get to ride it one last time.

When I was growing up (I'm talking early 2000s not when the park first opened) I used to enjoy the slow pace, old Hollywood feel of the place. Granted it was kinda a disjointed mess, but ya know, nostalgia. I'm so soupt for Star Wars and such, but it also means that nostalgic little park I used to visit is going away. I'm sure I'll fall in love with the new look of the place though

I'm sure I'll be ok with it all too but I'm glad we can all :grouphug: on feeling a bit sad. Nostalgia is a strong thing for sure.
