For those wondering here is the official word and guess what...last day is August 13th!!

I hear ya, I'm still up in the air here on the whole thing.I like this idea better than the rumored "Disney movie history" concept. They would have focused far too much on the popular films that have tons of exposure in the Disney Parks already. At least this idea is original and unique to the parks and the tech they're planning to use sounds interesting.
RIP GMR.
It's in print on the official Disney Parks Blog.Maybe it's just a delay in updating the system, but you can still book FP+ for GMR beyond Aug 13th. I looked everyday from Aug 14th though the last day of our trip, Aug 25th, and they are still available. Keeping fingers crossed that Aug 13th isn't etched in stone.

Thanks, joelkfla. I see that now.
While I am excited for all the news today including the new Mickey ride, I must say that I am a little perplexed by the short notice of the closure of GMR. Disney has created a system where guests pick their FP+ 60-days in advance and yet they are OK giving less than 30-days notice to close a major attraction forever. Seems a little odd, but I do not want to complain about getting new attractions.
YouTube is and always will be our allyIt is very, very sad to see The Great Movie Ride closing. It's great that they're investing in the parks and I'm sure the new ride will be great and much more popular than The Great Movie Ride, but as a fan of film (and a film student) this ride struck a chord with me. Can't believe I'm never going to ride it again.
'Tis true. It's not the same for sure especially when you have CMs involved that directly impact your experience (which then can vary from ride to ride-think Jungle Cruise; at least that's how my mind sees it) BUT it is still something.YouTube is and always will be our ally
I'm actually weirdly bummed about the movie ride leaving. I just have fond memories of it, and it always made me get those "studios" feels. But times are a changin'Tis true. Yeah..it wasn't my favorite ride but I did still enjoy it. Maybe I'm feeling like it's "the end of an era" type thing here because I'm honestly more sad than I originally thought I would be even knowing that it was very likely to be gone soon;that could also be in part because I don't get to ride it one last time.I'm actually weirdly bummed about the movie ride leaving. When I was growing up (I'm talking early 2000s not when the park first opened) I used to enjoy the slow pace, old Hollywood feel of the place. Granted it was kinda a disjointed mess, but ya know, nostalgia. I'm so soupt for Star Wars and such, but it also means that nostalgic little park I used to visit is going away. I'm sure I'll fall in love with the new look of the place thoughYeah..it wasn't my favorite ride but I did still enjoy it. I'm sure I'll be ok with it all too but I'm glad we can allWhen I was growing up (I'm talking early 2000s not when the park first opened) I used to enjoy the slow pace, old Hollywood feel of the place.
