I am a HUGE fan of the updated movies with Chris Pine. Love them all! I am not that much a junkie, I watched Next Generation, and even some of DS9, but not as big a follower. Never got into Enterprise(prequil) or Voyager.

I keep waiting and waiting for one of the major theme parks to get the rights to Star Trek, and make a walk around Enterprise!!!!!
Whew! I feel better now knowing I haven't committed some offense by saying I liked the newer movies.

And I wouldn't mind at all if I could go to a theme park and it have Star Trek. That would be pretty darn cool now that I think about it :D

I am actually pretty excited about the prospect of a Mickey ride. It think if done well it could be really cool.

I have always enjoyed GMR and it was a must do every trip. Like many have mentioned, I love the montage at the end as well as the Wizard of Oz scene. However, I do think it is showing its age. My sister and I went on it on our trip last November and and I remember thinking that it used to be better. I don't care for the voice over part. I feel that it was better with more interaction by the CMs. When I was on the CP program, GMR was one of the most requested attractions to work at after HM and TOT. I will be sad to see if go, but excited for the future.

I am so terribly torn on this. GMR has been my favorite Disney attraction since my first visit as child back in 1992. I absolutely love it. Because of this ride, I watched Singin' In the Rain which has been my favorite movie ever since. Also because of this ride, I have been inspired to watch many different films featured in the ride and the closing montage. I'm going to be truly sad to see this ride go.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about a Mickey ride. I think it might be fun. I can really see my liking a new Mickey ride. I'm just not sure I want it to replace my beloved Great Movie Ride. And, my real fear in all of this is that they make the change and it isn't all that popular so in another 5 years or so, they just decide to get rid of the ride, theater, and everything to make way for Elsa leads Guardians of the Galaxy through Toy Story Land to Battle The Death Star. Or something. Please don't let this happen. Please, whatever happens, let them keep the theater and the hand prints out front. Oh, and the fun artifacts that are in the queue currently.

:offtopic:

You and my husband would get along well. We enjoy Star Wars for sure but he's more of a Star Trek person (he's pretty excited for the new tv show coming out). I like bits and pieces of Star Trek (maybe it's blashphemy but I liked the movies that have come out with Chris Pine but I can watch Star Trek-Voyager [which is my husband's favorite one] and Star Trek-The Next Generation (which is my husband's second favorite one]).
I'm always looking for the reruns, I love all the series!

The Star Trek experience in Las Vegas was pretty darn cool. I took the family in 2001 and really enjoyed it although my kids were too young then to really get it. Too bad it closed.

It's funny you mention that....my husband went to Vegas (when we were just bf/gf) with his family in May 2009 (actually he went a month before I did, June 2009, when I went with my mom for my 21st b-day). So anywho he is still slightly bitter about not being able to see it before it closed in 2008 .

We did get to see a smaller exhibit in St. Louis when we were visiting but he still brings up how he wished he could have seen the one in Vegas.

I'm torn on this too. I think the Great Movie Ride is such a classic attraction and fits well into the Chinese Theater and as an all-encompassing attraction to fit the theme of the park - entertainment and movies across the board. A Mickey attraction would be fun, but maybe put it somewhere else? I don't know.

I'm upset. September will be my first visit to DW and I was truly looking forward to GMR. So now, not only is Splash down but I won't be able to ride GMR at all

Really, really sad about this decision. And even sadder cause we hoped to ride it one more time when we are there end Aug/early Sept.

Wish they would give more than a month notice for these things

Yep. It's my 11 year old daughter's favorite ride. Good thing we're not taking our usual trip in October this year. She would be crushed.

I still can't believe they are closing this before Toy Story land opens. Like it or not, and we loved it, it did help disburse the crowds at HS.

Have just one FP our HS day for TSMM 10:20-11:20. Likely for me to get same day FP after checking in????

I am so sad about this. I loved that ride and was hoping to ride it again when I go back in August. I'll miss it by 4 days :(
