Is this sold at Starring Rolls or only available at the Brown Derby? I'll be heading to the world in October and while I usually dine at Brown Derby, this year we are switching things up and trying out some new restaurants (BlueZoo, etc...) instead. I'd looove to be able to get my Grapefruit Cake fix though.
:confused3

I have in the past gone into Starin Rolls and purchased Grapefruit Cake. Once, I was sent into the Brown Derby to purchase the cake "to go".

I love this cake and have already asked my DH to make it for me for my birthday in August.

no guarantees you'll be able to get it at Starring Rolls...have heard CMs tell people no, not available there. (Starring Rolls shares kitchen with Hollywood Brown Derby...the grapefruit cake is the "signature" dessert at the Brown Derby.) And, you'd be very lucky to get any dessert as a "to go" order from the table service restaurants...the standard response to walk-ups asking for to-go service is No, they don't have to-go foods. You may get lucky if you're there on a very slow day, but typically, they'll offer to put you on a waiting list to get a table. Just so you know it's possible you won't get your cake without a table! Here's wishing you pixie dust, though!:thumbsup2

That's great news! I've been wanting to try it since we saw it on the food network on Disney Unwrapped, but Brown Derby can be a bit pricey for a family.

Here's a couple of pictures of the grapefruit cake, take out, Starring Rolls, July 2009

Last summer, I went to Starring Rolls and asked the clerk if I could have a slice of the Grapefruit Cake that is served at the Brown Derby. She went to the kitchen to check and came out with a slice in a plastic container. The cashier didn't know what it was and how to price it, so the clerk helped her with that (same $ as other cake slices). So, one person there knew how to help me and one didn't. For you, that means if the clerk helping you doesn't know the answer, ask her or another clerk to kindly check with the kitchen. I went there mid-morning when it was not too busy, that may have made a difference. The cake was well worth the extra time it took. :)

natebenma has a picture of it (above). July 2009 is when I had mine from SR, too. Yum!

Many thanks for all your replies! I knew Brown Derby shared a kitchen with Starring Rolls so it seems this could be a possibility.

I will absolutely try my luck and plead my case at Starring Rolls when I visit the studios. Fingers and toes crossed :)
