GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

From the article: The siblings’ mother, Monete Hicks, has had difficulty sleeping since the deaths of her children, said Tanra Washington, 34, another cousin.
“It’s a deadly matter,” she said. “It’s not fair to bury a loved one because of other people’s ignorance, or insensitivity to this matter.”

Yet they went on a vacation? I'm sorry her children died, but she just played the victim card quite blatantly and incorrectly. ANd they could have spread the virus themselves?

Exactly. The brother, who acquired symptoms first, did not go to any theme parks. The sister, who started showing symptoms days after her brother passed, did go to theme parks, but most likely got it from her brother who she lived with and was in close contact with.

But where did he get it from? They stated something about a Walmart, but if he was wearing a mask and social distancing while in the store, washing his hands afterwards before touching his face, how did he get it?

How does this prove "young people infect old people"? Unless you've done tracing, you don't know where (or from whom) anyone has gotten it.

Our local nursing home had the virus introduced through a young staff member. Most of our city deaths due to COVID are from that nursing home. How does COVID get into the nursing homes to begin with?

I think the important takeaway from this article is who needs to be exceedingly careful at this time. From looking at the photo, the 22 year old man was morbidly obese, and the 20 year old woman was at least obese, possibly morbidly obese. It's risky for anyone in that population to be out in public as much as they were on that trip.

My take away from the article is that the family believed that it was safe for them to go On vacation to Orlando. Why? Because they were allowed and encouraged to under the Grand Reopening.

Who cares if they are playing the ‘victim card’? They *are* victims. Victims of a terrible virus. Victims of their trust in leaders to make policies to keep them safe. Victims of their own cabin fever. Victims of someone else’s choice to go out in public while sick.

I do think the family feels some responsibility for leaving their safer county and going to Orlando for vacation. My guess is that’s what is keeping that poor mother up at night. The guilt of bringing her children into harms way. I’m sure that she’s beating herself up over this enough and we, as a theme park community, don’t need to pile on.

I agree with you as well. Disney and Universal opening up as they have, sends a signal to many, many people (too many!), that it's "all good". It's not "all good", not even remotely close to that. And you didn't quote my post above. But I just wanted to point out that both of those young adults had a major pre-existing condition....and that's morbid obesity. I make no judgements on them. I'm right on the edge of being overweight myself right now having gained a few too many "covid pounds". I'm getting off my quarantine butt more now to work to get my BMI back into the 22-23 range where it resides normally.

But we can't discount that we have a lot of big people in our country. And so the young people who feel immortal, well, they're not. Traveling and vacationing in places like Florida is dangerous for anyone right now. It's life-threatening for people who are obese, and that includes young people of size.

I can’t tell you the number of conversations I‘ve had with people the next two months where they say “if it wasn’t safe, they (restaurant/bar/summer camp/airline/etc) wouldn’t be allowed to open”. My siblings and I keep going round and round with my older mother on this point. This country, in general, is very trusting of our institutions and authorities to keep us safe, and I think one legacy of this is going to be a reckoning where people realizing opening up the bars for example was not safe and some leaders had other motivations.

I learned a lot about that from the cruise industry. Just assumed they would have emergency plans in place but they sure don’t.

Covid tests are on the rise because we are testing more. If you test positive then they do a second test to rule out a false positive. Employers expect that if you don't feel well that you rule out Covid-19 so they require you go test for the virus. These explain the reported hike in tests taken. This also explains the increase in positives as well. Positives increased because testing increased.
My coworker wasn't feeling well one day. Forget that we work outside and have to wear masks in the heat. He has COPD. He was negative but, that adds to the number of people tested. in our community.
Now, as far as the illness it can be cruel. It CAN be life threatening. So can the flu if your immune system is compromised. It is more contagious so I get the masks. I do know a few people who have it. A few. They describe their symptoms as feeling tired. Not to say this can effect people more severely. Add to that many hospitals have empty beds. We are seeing that here.
THE DATA. According to the CDC and their number of positive cases against the number of documented Americans the percentage of Americans with Covid 19 is 1.29%. One Point Two Nine Percent. No where close to flu numbers. Let that sink in.

Our state removes duplicates.

Do you understand positivity rate? More tests don’t natter if the number of positives doesn’t increase with it.

I saw your post, and this one. Obesity is one of the underlying conditions that increase the chance of having a severe illness from Covid. One of the reasons why Covid is so severe in African American communities is because black people have higher rates of underlying conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and asthma.

But ... we are not the doctors or family of those two young people who died. We don't know if their obesity was a contributing factor in their untimely death. One of the other victims in the family, an 8-year old girl, had sickle cell which is yet another contributing factor. She did not die.

I wish we could see the daily data on the common cold and flus. Corona virus is a cold. We get our viruses from animals. The common cold is caused from housing pigs and chickens together.

This MAY explain positive results. Doesn't explain rising hospitalizations and deaths that track with the rising positive results 2-4 weeks later.

There's definitely community spread still. The measures-to-date, what ever they are in principle and eventually in practice, are insufficient. Some places have now plateaued the number of positive testing and hopefully will reflect a stabilization of hospitalizations/deaths. But most hotspots remain quite high and above the 8% infection rate goal initially set for Phase 1.

Yes I understand positivity rates. As I have said the number of positives has increased because more tests are being taken. Not all states remove duplicates. Not only that but if there are false positives they don't remove the original positive test. Not sure if that is on purpose. There doesn't seem to be a daily report on the amount of false positives. Not to mention if there are tests giving out false positives then the testing itself is still trusted? Just as people say others think this is a hoax and some disagree, think about the fact that people are believing what they are hearing about it. When the number of deaths caused by covid skyrocketed, the number of deaths caused by things like heart attacks, stroke, etc. decreased. We already know they were fudging the numbers by listing peoples cause of death as Covid 19 without even testing for it.

I challenge everyone to do their research. This is a highly politicized virus. Don't be a sheep and really do your OWN research. Wait until November. Like the groundhog on Groundhog day this will either disappear quickly or continue on depending on who wins the election.

You may want to consider visiting a hospital with reported high rates of COVID patients and kindly, without prejudice, ask them if they are seeing an increased amount of COVID related admissions and deaths.

I do my research AND also have the personal experiences of the multitudes of people I know personally who experienced and in many cases struggled mightily for their lives or died as a result of it but sure, it’s all a political motivated hoax. In November the folks I know who died will be still be dead and I expect a least a couple of those I know who were lucky enough to survive a severe case but are still struggling will be still be trying to fully recover no matter who wins the election.

This is what's happening in Texas.

Funeral homes are running out of storage space for the deceased or facing delays of more than a week to bury bodies. Crematories are backing up.
The federal government has dispatched mobile morgues. Refrigerated trucks are popping up behind hospital wards and funeral homes, bodies wrapped in plastic or sheets lined up on their floors.

Bu bu but but its a hoax! They're paid actors! Did they vote democrat!? Bill gates something something. Everything is a conspiracy to the folks who just refuse to look at whats happening. The whole world didn't shut down simultaneously to hurt the president. But they won't accept that reality because if they do then it doesn't reflect so well on their guy. It's ridiculous that the seriousness of this still has to be debated, but here we are.
