I saw an elderly couple at the store yesterday. They were wearing masks and gloves. The masks were pulled down so they could eat a bag of chips (with their gloved hands) while continuing to shop. I see people wearing N95s and I wonder if they were actually fitted for them or if they just slapped them on their face.

PPEs will only be effective if worn correctly. Otherwise it’s like wear a seat belt over your shoulder but not buckling it in.

If you're going to wear them that way, just take the darn thing off. You're defeating the entire purpose.

Mask order is back for the City of Tampa. The first time they tried it there was a collective temper tantrum until it was rescinded, so I'll be curious to see if it sticks this time. The county meets to discuss the issue on Monday, I think, but thus far the sheriff is not in favor.

I'm still shocked at how many businesses aren't insisting their employees wear masks in customer-facing jobs. St Pete just issued an order to compel that, but you'd think that would just be a common sense measure!

RIght now wearing masks indoors is the number one thing we can do. It will help us open up more. Where I live it is mandated, but people did it even before the mandate. Compliance is excellent. Apparently that is not true of other places.

My baby (age 30 and unmarried) lives there, too and works where she is exposed to people in close contact. She is required to wear a mask to protect them, but they aren't required to wear one to protect her.

My landlord just came over and did the nose thing. Pissed me off! First I had to ask him to put on a mask, then he puts one on (didn't even have one, had to ask the carpet guy for one) but pulls it down under his nose. That does exactly nothing to isolate his germs! Ugh, I was so mad. He didn't even need to be here, he's just nebby. The carpet guy was here looking at things for 5 minutes, then he left and my landlord stood there for another 20 minutes trying to get me to gossip about my neighbors, touching my stuff with his un-gloved hands.

This usually triggers a special cleaning. Contract tracing decides who is close contact and if they need to quarantine. It's sounds like a large portion of staff may have been affected. They should have the choice to quarantine and/or test.

I still don't follow how a mask does not protect the person wearing one. If a mask is going to stop the virus from getting out to the air when it's fractions of a inch from your nose/mouth, how does it NOT keep the virus from getting through the mask after it has traveled some number of feet?

Cloth face masks only filter some of the virus that is expelled. If my daughter is sick, then some of the virus is caught in her mask, therefore helping to prevent her infecting the person she is talking to. It's not foolproof, but it is helping to lower the number of virus droplets that are expelled into the air, either in the vicinity or on the actual person.

If the person she is talking to is sick and not wearing a mask, then they are expelling virus droplets on the outside of her mask, her eyes, glasses if she is wearing them, her arms and her clothes. Her chances of being infected have just been increased.

If both people are masked, then the number of virus droplets expelled into the air have been decreased.

FL Gov moving ahead with all re-opening plans, it's crazy.

But the mask would keep the droplets from getting to her nose and mouth. I'm only saying I think the phrase "masks don't protect the wearer" are false. Yes, they are more effective to protect others. But there's still got to be some effectiveness for the wearer.
