GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

This is false.

Florida's positive test rate for the most recent week was 4.2%. Our overall positive rate since the start of the pandemic is 5.9%

That was an increase in both the rate and number of new cases, and ED visits are also up, so increased testing certainly does not explain the increase in new cases. Several urban counties have renewed their mandatory mask orders and others will probably follow.

And just when we were starting to feel positive about school and college for the Fall...
These are the daily rates.

Daily rates are irrelevant because of the sporadic nature of both daily test numbers and daily lab results releases.

There's a reason why a site named "clickOrlando" uses daily rates, lol.
It would be nice if they put the weekly rate out a little faster!
That 4.2% was the week ending 6/7 which in pandemic days feels like a life time ago. The last 12 days have been very different then the 7 before it,makes it hard to get a real feel for what is happening NOW for sure!

There is no perfect way to do things, and I think a very good argument could be made for focusing more on hospital admissions and ICU admissions. A lot of people forget (many by convenient choice aligned with their political beliefs) that the objective has always been to limit the spread as much as possible and avoid overwhelming the hospital systems.

It's the number of people that are positive and the fact that those positives are infecting others at an increased rate, along with the knowledge of where this is all happening, is how we can prevent the medical centers becoming overwhelmed this time.

I watch several data sites daily and their information has not let me down. I am going to believe my scientific sites, even when the information is picked up by news agencies.

If you only focus on hospitalizations and deaths, then you miss out on the information that points to where the number of cases are rising and where you will more likely encounter a person who can infect you, your family or friends.

Florida has a vested interest in trying to convince people from all over the US to come and spend money there. I am going to use my sites to drive my decision.

I shared it before, but in case you did no see it. Seminole County came out with their own dashboard that includes hospitalizations (the first day was 6/15 and there were 16 in the hospital) and as of today they even added the number of patients under investigation that are hospitalized. That info has been extremely difficult to find in the Central Florida area

That is a informative dashboard. Is Oviedo the area with the largest population?

I doubt it. I think the area along I-4 on the other side of the county is much more densely populated.

But Oviedo is just north of the University of Central Florida main campus and cmp3400 is a UCF season-ticket holder.

That accounts for the large dark red spot on the dashboard he linked?
I'm not sure. It looks to me like that big red spot on the heat map is the town of Casselberry, rather than Oviedo. But I don't know that part of Seminole County very well, so I could be mistaken.

I mentioned the latest positive rate was 12% and I was told I was wrong. So I was showing that the latest positive rate was 12%. Interpret info as you wish. I work in Disaster Management so I do understand data.

Can somebody explain NC on that graph? How do you have a -400 something % two weeks ago? Would that be change from the week prior? You can’t actually have a negative percent positive, right?
From NC DHHS with bold added:

COVID-19 Testing
Reporting positive laboratory tests to NCDHHS is mandatory. However, reporting the total number of tests conducted, including negative tests, is not required. Therefore, total tests come from labs that voluntarily reporting them.

Reporting laboratories submit the number of total tests performed to the Department of Public Safety - State Emergency Response Team (SERT). Some laboratories also report both positive and negative tests through electronic laboratory reporting into NC EDSS. This comprises more than 60% of the laboratory tests that have been reported to NCDHHS, and there are ongoing efforts to increase the number of labs reporting.

At a recent press conference, officials discussed that total tests are estimates. It is very possible they manually entered an adjustment.
