Grand Californian entrance question

Can you exit DCA and use the direct entrance into The Grand Californian Hotel to use their restaurants (and later exit when finished eating) if you are NOT staying at the DL resort hotels? Or do you have to go around and enter via DTD?
 
THey only time they check for DLR hotel guests is in the morning. Use of restaurants also "counts" I believe, but they won't be checking later in the day.
 
The only time they ask for a room key at the GCH entrance to DCA is during the morning when DCA has early entry. The rest of the time anyone can use that gate to enter or exit.
 
They never check at any time of day if you are exiting DCA to the GCH. They only check if you are entering DCA - as outlined by the previous posters.

I'm surprised they don't enforce at all times quite frankly. It is a "perk" of staying onsite afterall... a perk you pay a LOT for.

I think you're misunderstanding the entrance perk for on-site guests, which is two-fold:

  • On-site Disney hotel guests get EMH on EMH days via the entrance; and
  • GCH guests get faster access to their rooms from DCA via the entrance.

But that's really all. It is not marketed as an exclusive entrance, but simply a "special" entrance between GCH and DCA.
