Grab a cup of coffee, or whatever & pull up a seat...it's another Last to Post!

Wow. Lots of posting. It has been a while since it took me this long to catch up. We are close to 250 now, so I know it is going to move fast.

Jo is turning pages again, which is a sight to see.

Matt will be coaching the best sport ever.

Bret and Princess took some lovely firework shots making me look like I have a plain point and shoot camera.

Nice to see everyone back to posting again.

Cool! I played center halfback in the day, but I guess they now call that striker. I'm not much on the soccer nowadays.

The center forward is called the striker. It is still called the center half. That was my favorite position on the field. I rarely played striker, because my sister was better and I hated playing offense against a strong team. I like falling back and helping the defense.

Oh yeah PiO, you did mention about the firework trails during my block party on 4th of July.

I read the first sentence, then saw the top 1/3 of that photo, and thought holy crap that must be the block to live on.

I haven't seen you too much on the DL threads. It's nice that you get to coach your DS.

I know that you did mention it in the past that you want to coach your DS for soccer.

I offered for the Spring and never got any reply. Then did offer for a few times for Summer talking to the organizer.

It's just volunteer. I know the league has some paid positions and paid refs, plus some overhead. It's strange since when I played Summer soccer it only took 1 paid ref and the administration was done by the county. This soccer club has taken the administration from the county which means the club has paid full time employees.

I think you may have mentioned this in a previous post...but I have swiss cheese memory at the moment.

Is the coaching a volunteer position or do you get paid?

Fran is not well. See my last update on the Cheating PTR. Turns out we found out today I ROYALLY screwed up and I'm not kidding. We fought hard or applied for her to get secondary care after Medicare through Blue Cross. Well I was confused and let the Medicare portion of her Blue Cross get cancelled because I thought it was the original one. I had to reapply today and there is no guarantee she will get in because the six months have expired. I feel so bad for being so stupid that I didn't understand the whole process and that I didn't do it right, but I reapplied her today today and I just hope they will give her a policy. She has the drug coverage, but not secondary medical
I did not understand this when we were applying and she was so out of it with the wound and stuff that she couldn't help answer any questions. I sort of feel like I want to kill myself right now for my stupidity, but I know that won't help anything so I won't. Ugh! I hope that they accept her in the reapplication process. Imagine a simley crossing his fingers!

Alison,

Please do not be mad at yourself for this. I worked in the medical field for many years and can assure you this happened to many people. They often did not realize the Medicare went away when they selected an HMO alternative thinking it would become secondary to Medicare rather than replace the Medicare plan. Even after explaining the reason Medicare denied the claim to countless people, they still had a hard time understanding it. I really think it confuses a lot of people. Most of the people I spoke to switched to an HMO alternative that we were not even providers for, so they got stuck with rather large bills. I discounted the charges severely any time their appeal to switch back to the original Medicare plan was denied. Open enrollment for Medicare is closed. Without a life change, it will be difficult to switch back until open enrollment on November 15th for January 1st.

You meant well. I would still call to see if the switch can be made, and keep calling until it is obvious there is nothing further you can do. The lovely thing about Medicare is you get a different answer every time you call and talk to someone. Persistent people have been able to switch plans outside of open enrollment, so I know it is possible. For every 100 people that tried, only about 1 or 2 got it done. Hopefully, the specialists she has been seeing are providers for BC/BS. If it comes down to a referral issue, they can retro referrals in extreme cases. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Good luck changing it back.

:grouphug: All fingers and toes crossed for you. Don't kick yourself too badly....these things happen. :grouphug:

Yeah, but if we can't get was so out of er the coverage back, I'm going to feel totally respondsible. I can't believe that I did this, it was totally my fault, but she was so out of it while this was going on I couldn't ask her questionsd, but this is no excuse. I should have called and not made assumptions. I feel like such an ***. She may not be able to qualify now because of her pre existing medical conditions. I am such stupid ***, I really want to kill my self.

Its pretty much the same here. The different codes ask for parent volunteers to coach. However, I know that Aussie Rules Football will "reward" a parent-coach by putting them through the basic coach's training course for free. I believe that the basic coach training is about $400 if you wanted to pay for it yourself and it runs for about 12 hours or so. I don't know if the other football codes offer the same deal but I would expect so.

Over here, if you are working with kids, you have to do a police check. Is it the same in the US?

Alison - you have so much going on and with Fran not well, sometimes things like this happen. I know you're not feeling great about it; and I hope the admin staff see that it was an error and reinstate things. Just look after yourself, my friend. :flower3:

Alison,

On top of everything I already mentioned above, I also wanted to add some facts about pre-existing conditions. As long as Fran had continous enrollment without a gap (meaning no ins at all, not a change of ins) of more than 62 days, no ins company whether Medicare or otherwise can deny a claim as pre-existing. You should not even be required to provide proof of credible coverage if she's had Medicare for over 18 months, because Medicare will forward that for her. They can deny claims if it is an HMO and there is no referral and/or prior auth. It can also be denied if they are Medicare providers but not providers for the HMO alternative selected.

It is a nice block party where my neighbor started it about 7 years ago with just a few houses and this year we had the whole neighborhood which was great. We had dinner outside in our driveway and then launched fireworks that night.

You did say that you try to volunteer for the Spring time and never got a reply. Now this time they finally responded after not responding to you in Spring. It's nice to hear that they needed some volunteers to coach for soccer in the summertime.

Don't worry about it Alison. I'm hoping that everything goes well for you and Fran.

Yes next Winter when I'm giving him private ski leasons.

I assume there will be a coaches meeting where I will get some equipment. Although it sounds like it's just games no practice so maybe not.

Basically all they did was ask what age DS is and said great we need a coach for a team of that same age. What's you name, then registered DS over the phone.

The best part is for Spring I bought him the $60 uniform a few sizes big so he could wear it next year and maybe the following year. The guy said they have a different Summer uniform and DS gets one for free. I'm not sure if it's a different uniform for each season or for the whole leargue. I hope this new one is big enough for a couple years.

I will be going to bed a little later, but I am logging off the DIS for tonight. Good night, Princess.

I hope you get to coach rather than just be a supervisor for the other kids.

Yeah, we will see. Either way is fine. I really wanted to get my foot in the door to build some senority so I can coach during the other seasons too.

Good Morning everyone! My ipad was almost just about to die and then the icons wouldn't pop up for posting.

Alison - I don't have anything great to add to what Kimberly and PIO have already said, I just wanted to send you another :grouphug:.

Don't be so hard on yourself, you're juggling too many thing all at once.

Alison, dont even think thoughts like that. Take a deep breath and relax. How are you Angela?
