Grab a cup of coffee, or whatever & pull up a seat...it's another Last to Post!

Better for having slept most of yesterday. But it was bitterly cold this morning by Aussie standards. We had frost on the ground.

what about you? What have you been getting up to in your absence?

Still got it. So how did everything turn out? You were missed!

Well I'm here.

I'm glad to be coaching which means DS will be playing. I hadn't gotten a response about the position in a while and had started to think about what we would do instead. So the call today was a little surprising. It's a couple evenings a week so a little busier. At least since it's Summer we don't need to rush home make dinner and get him in bed. I think Summer will go very quick.

I think you may have mentioned this in a previous post...but I have swiss cheese memory at the moment.

Is the coaching a volunteer position or do you get paid?

I haven't seen you too much on the DL threads. It's nice that you get to coach your DS.

I know that you did mention it in the past that you want to coach your DS for soccer.

Oh yeah PiO, you did mention about the firework trails during my block party on 4th of July. I had a great time during 4th of July and our block party used over 30 different fireworks that night.

Here are some pics of the fireworks. Some of them were not that great and some were good.

Bret - were these more like sparklers?

Bret - Great job on dialling back the shutter speed for these type of fireworks. I like the first one and the second shot might have worked better dialling back even more.

The 2 - 4 second speeds work better for fireworks that explode in the night sky.

I did play with firework trails from sparklers a couple of years ago.....

These were a 4 second exposure but because we were moving the sparkler round, it was fine. Otherwise, it would have completely over exposed the shot.

I find that with sparkler type "fireworks" on birthday cakes that you can get trails just from hand holding and a 1/40 sec exposure. I think I may have been inclined to try under 1 second for the firework type you had at the block party.

When I looked at those pictures of the fireworks that night, they almost look like sparklers then the firework trails that we see in the sky. When I used the shutter speed of 2 to 3 seconds, it got a lot in the picture. It is completely different from taking pictures of the firework trails in the sky.

Very nice pics of the sparkler trails. On the last pic of the fireworks I could have easily set back the dialing, but I was experimenting with a lot of the shutter speed as well as the aperture. Some turned out great and some were bad.

I did try a few times at one second shutter speed with my DSLR on the fireworks, some I only got a few trails on them. I didn't upload all the pictures. I just uploaded a few pics on flickr.

I got the call.

I'll be coaching Soccer for the core of Summer.

Cool! I played center halfback in the day, but I guess they now call that striker. I'm not much on the soccer nowadays.

:woohoo: DH finished the laying the flooring today. He'll get the base boards on tomorrow and then we can start getting our house back in order.

Yay for getting the house back together.

Nice to see you Ness!

Nice to be back. Skiing ,you will be busy now! How is Fran?

Fran is not well. See my last update on the Cheating PTR. Turns out we found out today I ROYALLY screwed up and I'm not kidding. We fought hard or applied for her to get secondary care after Medicare through Blue Cross. Well I was confused and let the Medicare portion of her Blue Cross get cancelled because I thought it was the original one. I had to reapply today and there is no guarantee she will get in because the six months have expired. I feel so bad for being so stupid that I didn't understand the whole process and that I didn't do it right, but I reapplied her today today and I just hope they will give her a policy. She has the drug coverage, but not secondary medical
I did not understand this when we were applying and she was so out of it with the wound and stuff that she couldn't help answer any questions. I sort of feel like I want to kill myself right now for my stupidity, but I know that won't help anything so I won't. Ugh! I hope that they accept her in the reapplication process. Imagine a simley crossing his fingers!

If they were more like sparklers, you can see that it doesn't take much exposure to get a trail.

With fireworks, it really is a case of getting your timing rights. If you do wander into that thread on the photo subforum, you'll see a few great shots. What you won't see is how many people might have not posted to get the few great shots. I regularly trash about 60 % of my fireworks shots simply due to poor timing.

You're doing great. The more practise you get, the easier it will be.
