GOTG-Mission:Breakout

My husband went on it on opening day. I couldn't go (pregnant). He said it's very well done and it gets to the point (drops) much quicker, and that there are a lot more of them. We're both sad about losing ToT and think the exterior is pretty out of place for now at DCA but he said it was great.

We rode it last Thursday, 6/1. None of us had ever been on Tower of Terror. And I really don't like drop elevator type rides. But I sucked it up and tried it for the sake of my YDD, who wanted to go on it because she thinks that Baby Groot is really cute.

ODD went on it, too. As did 2 of our friends. DH was the only smart one. He declined.

The queue area is really really well done. Harold the abominable snowman from the Matterhorn is in the queue. There supposedly is some sort of Easter egg in the actual ride (not queue), but we never saw it because we had our eyes closed for about half of the ride. The Collector's Office was cool as well. The animatronic Rocket was very well done.

But the ride itself? It was terrifying. My ODD (almost 11) was in tears. YDD hated it, too. The only way I didn't throw up was by screaming my fool head off the whole entire time. Seriously, it was torture. It was truly horrible. I really did almost throw up on everybody in the elevator. Felt like the drops just wouldn't stop. And every time the elevator zoomed up, I got even more freaked out because I knew that the drop was coming. My hands couldn't stop shaking for about 20 minutes after we got off the ride. We were all so dazed afterwards that we tried to exit out a Cast Member corridor by mistake. We went on Radiator Springs Racers afterwards in order to get the bad juju off of us and reset our brains back to happy Disneyland mode! :flower1:

If you enjoyed the type of ride that Tower of Terror was, then you will enjoy this version a lot as well. If you don't like drop rides, then save yourself the torture and post-traumatic stress and skip it! :crazy2:
This is the kind of review that lets me know the ride will be amazing!

I know you said you had never been on ToT but I am wondering if you what type of ride that was?

I did know what type of ride it was. Was willing to try GOTG once since YDD wanted to try it so badly. NEVER AGAIN!

Big TOT fans so came into this with lowered expectations.

The exterior of GOTG doesn't fit the current land but I think if Marvel Land gets built it will find it's place, I like how it looks at night and is great with long exposure pictures!

We didn't spend anytime in the queue, but very well done on YouTube:)

One thing I love is they are finally using HD screens/projections. Last year at Universal we noticed that difference, it was something that stood out to me and at the time I commented to the DW about.

So on to the ride, we loved the staging room and pre-ride video, that part was excellent, so many little details it was impossible to see everything. The pre-show did a great job of explaining the theme plot of the ride so no prior exposure to GOTG was needed. DW only knows Groot so thats all we hear all day! Groooot! hahah

The ride was very High Energy and very Fun. Honestly I didn't catch much of the story flying up and down the tower but in the end it was very fun. The music probably increased the energy factor and the on ride screens/projections were amazing. Some of my favorites by Disney at least on the west coast. I am assuming Pandora is the same if not better but this is exactly the reason rides need updated!

Overall it far exceeded our expectations, Nice job Disney!

I'm really looking forward to riding this. But, my DW and oldest DD did not handle ToT very well. Sounds like GotG is a little more extreme and I'll be riding this alone.
