Got Pixie Dust? A June 2009 PTR ~TR Link, Page 180

Oh, that is so neat! You are like my mom, she's also really into the ancient Egyptian stuff. I Googled it because I would have loved to spring that as a surprise on her, but it's not coming to anywhere around Boston. It was awesome to see the pictures and read the description, though! I'll find something else cool to spring on my mom. :scratchin

That is so cool!! Sully is WAY into history and knows a lot about Ancient Egypt as we studied it quite a bit in our homeschooling days. He would have loved to go to something like that!

We have a statue of Anubis right outside our local mall at the entrance to the Muvico Egyptian Theater (movie theater). :thumbsup2 I'll have to take a picture for you sometime.

My mom used to take us to exhibits like that when we were little. The one I remember vividly is Pompeii. What a fun day for you all. :goodvibes

It looks like you all had a really great time! It's cool that you all go to go do that together! I can't get my family to exhibits without the promise of free food or something.....

Was the Harrison Ford narration serendipitous or what? :lmao:

Hey, thanks for the great description. I would love to go see that exhibit, it sounds like you all had a lot of fun. :goodvibes

The King Tut exhibit sounds like alot of fun. I wish it were coming closer to me. I would go see it for sure. Glad to hear that you had a great weekend.

Love the pictures and the details of the exhibit---I am going to go look up to see if the King Tut exhibit is coming to Cincy any time soon!!! What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday!!!! Thanks for sharing it with us Jackie!

I've lurked along so far, but had to post on the King Tut exhibit. We saw it in Chicago summer of '06 and you're right, it was awesome! I wish they could've brought the actual sarcophogus, though. My younger daughter picked a doll for her souvie, but the older one picked a King Tut BAUBLE HEAD! Glad you enjoyed it:)

Jackie, How cool was that? Matthew saw the pics. and was sooo envious! He loves King Tut (anything to do with history really) Bryan and I stayed in the Luxor hotel in Vegas when I was pregnant with Matthew and we swear that is why he loves King Tut so much!:rotfl:

Hooray for Chelsea always a trooper with the "Walk like an Egyptian" pose, love the picture of the both of you (your hair looking all cute!), and a way to go for Connor, maybe it just took seeing the exhibit for him to get into the spirit of things! I wish Tut would come somewhere near us.....

What a fun morning! Everything looks awesome!

Harrison Ford as the narrator??? :faint:

Love the egyptian poses and am so glad Connor was "convinced" to pose as a pharoah.

I'm with Connor and Chelsea... I would have giggled at the toilet seat too. :rotfl:

Oh and love how many Disney things I can spy in the first pic of Chelsea posing. I think I see your lanyard with pins, a pen perhaps and a family photo? :goodvibes It's important to keep as much Disney around you as you can, I think! ::yes::

I would have been so disappointed if Connor hadn't posed for any pictures -- I always look forward to their antics!

The funniest thing about the toilet seat was Chelsea's comment. Two cases over there had been a kohl pot displayed so I pointed it out to Chelsea and explained how it was used for eyeliner. When they saw the toilet seat and read the description of how it would have been placed over a wooden box, they started giggling. So, I said, "Well, you know, even the ancient Egyptians had to do their business, and there wasn't indoor plumbing." Chelsea rolled her eyes and declared, "But they had make-up!" like it was totally incomprehensible to her that a civilization could be advanced enough to wear make-up, but not have indoor plumbing. :rotfl:

Hey the exhibit sounds and looks very cool. Great description of it and you have two impressive Egyptians in your family :upsidedow It comes here to the DC area in the fall. Nov 09. I will bring my two boys for sure. Of course the interest in Egyptian history etc. began a few years ago, with an unexpected connection. "The Golden Pyramid" Little Einsteins movie... if you can believe it :rotfl: We'll be on the lookout to get tickets for it. Thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

That's too funny about the Little Einsteins movie -- I highly recommend the exhibit, it was truly stunning -- everything in it was just wonderful!

WOW what a great day you had Jackie!! I'm so jealous!! I'm wondering if I can still get tickets...spring break will be here before you know and I know Phillip and I would love to see that exhibit.

I'm so glad you had a great day and some really great photos!! Thanks for sharing your trip with us!!!

I bet there are still tickets -- it was very quiet when we went. I think we purchased ours through Ticketmaster if I remember correctly. I know we did it online.

What a fun morning! That looks like a really neat exhibit! Glad you had a good time!

We did have a great time -- I wish we could do things like that every weekend.

A friend of mine flew from NH to Chicago to see the Tut exhibit - now I understand why! Sounds like a blast! That's great that your kids enjoy stuff like that. :goodvibes

When it went through Chicago and Philadelphia (there were a couple of other cities), I was sad that none of the cities were close enough -- but then it came to Atlanta in a little bit different form. The kids have been raised on a steady diet of museum visits all their lives. I remember Chelsea being little, little -- toddler-size -- and pushing her through a Degas exhibit at the High Museum in Atlanta. I don't think they have figured out that it might be "uncool" to like that sort of thing. Let's hope they don't anytime soon.

I checked out the exhibit online today (read the whole thing). I can only hope that it makes it way to Boston in the next few years.

I bet it will -- I imagine Boston is a big spot for touring exhibits. The website is cool, isn't it? I have been on their lots!

Very cool! I'm glad you guys got to do that together.

Chelsea is looking more like a young lady than a little girl these days. Love the mother-daughter picture.

I hope Connor had fun with his exploring. He might go out on a real archaeology dig someday!

Thanks for sharing your fun with us.

Can you believe how much and how quickly Chelsea is changing??? Everytime I see a photo of her these days, she looks like she has grown up a little bit more. I knew we would see big changes during the middle school years, but nothing prepared me for how quickly those changes would occur!

I should have taken pictures of the mess those archaeological kits made -- by the time Connor had unearthed the scarab and the mummy, the kitchen table looked like someone had dumped a container of cat litter and a whole truckload of Georgia red clay all over it! Thank goodness I hadn't vacuumed or mopped before that!

Oooh!! What a wonderful day for you. I can't believe Harrison Ford was the narrator!! It couldn't have been any more perfect, well only if he had been there in person. I am so glad you enjoyed your day! :goodvibes

It was a wonderful day and having Harrison Ford as a narrator was like the whipped cream on an ice cream sundae! Did you see the light fixture photo I took just for you, LL?

That looked like a lot of fun! Very neat! I love the pharaohs pic!

Thanks! We loved our morning there!

That sounds like so much fun! I've been begging (well, maybe not all out begging) my parents to go to Atlanta to see King Tut this spring break. Needless to say, it didn't exactly work out. Hmm... I wonder where it's headed to next.
Aren't the Terra Cotta soldiers in Atlanta this spring as well?

I can't remember where it is headed next -- I know another King Tut exhibit is in Dallas right now.

The Terra Cotta soldiers are here at the High Museum -- I think I am going to try and get tickets before they leave in April. Everyone has been raving about them!

That looked like fun! Nothing like that comes to po dunk SC! :rotfl:

You have Charleston less than two hours away, though. Atlanta is only about five from you, right? Come on over!

:scratchin

I bet another incarnation of the Tut exhibit will head towards Boston soon -- I can't believe that it wouldn't since Boston is so much bigger than Atlanta.

Sully would love it. One of the best parts was that so many of the pieces were just out on display and you could walk all around them to look at them. From a Mom standpoint, I was so paranoid that one of my kids would lean forward and accidentally topple the priceless artifacts.

Anubis is my favorite of the Egyptian gods -- a picture would be awesome!

My mom used to take us to exhibits like that when we were little. The one I remember vividly is Pompeii. What a fun day for you all. :goodvibes

Oh, I bet that was so neat! My dad actually went to Pompeii when he was in the Navy and brought back so many photos -- I remember being freaked out by the casts of the people!

It looks like you all had a really great time! It's cool that you all go to go do that together! I can't get my family to exhibits without the promise of free food or something.....

:rotfl: We've always liked doing things like that, but we also always joke that it's the gift shops that are the most important!

Was the Harrison Ford narration serendipitous or what? :lmao:

Hey, thanks for the great description. I would love to go see that exhibit, it sounds like you all had a lot of fun. :goodvibes

I just could not believe it was Harrison Ford narrating -- really -- you could have knocked me over from the surprise of it. Nothing like his voice extolling the greatness of the pharaohs! ;)

The King Tut exhibit sounds like alot of fun. I wish it were coming closer to me. I would go see it for sure. Glad to hear that you had a great weekend.

We had a blast! I wish everyone could go see it -- it is so neat!

Love the pictures and the details of the exhibit---I am going to go look up to see if the King Tut exhibit is coming to Cincy any time soon!!! What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday!!!! Thanks for sharing it with us Jackie!

Thanks for reading all about it, Jen! Did you find out if it is headed to Cincy?

I've lurked along so far, but had to post on the King Tut exhibit. We saw it in Chicago summer of '06 and you're right, it was awesome! I wish they could've brought the actual sarcophogus, though. My younger daughter picked a doll for her souvie, but the older one picked a King Tut BAUBLE HEAD! Glad you enjoyed it:)

Thanks for coming out of lurkdom -- I hope you will continue making comments now! :goodvibes I love that your DD picked out a King Tut Bauble Head -- that's great!!! :rotfl: Chelsea and Connor wanted to know where King Tut actually was and when I explained that he was in the museum in Cairo, they declared that we should go there soon! So I spent yesterday daydreaming about imagining trips to Egypt with the kids.

That is the best story ever!!! :rotfl: Do you know how many times I have thought about going to Vegas just to stay in the Luxor hotel??? Matthew has great taste -- I am a huge history buff and adore King Tut -- both his story and the story of the discovery of his tomb. Howard Carter and Lord Carnavon were just about to give up when Carter found the steps!

Thanks! I do so adore my new hair -- the photo was funny because my mom was telling my dad, "Quick, take the picture! It's one thing when the kids do it, but she's (talking about me, her own daughter) is a grown woman!" :rotfl:

Wow I totally would have appreciated that King Tut exhibit as much as you did! I loveee history especially since I'm going to be a social studies/history teacher right now and can't even imagine how cool it was. Yeah, I'm a dork :rotfl:

Thank you and thank you for my creepy dancing men! :rotfl: Glad you didn't wake Henry up from his nap! :goodvibes There are times when I just do a little happy dance when I think about all the fun we will have -- I can almost smell it (the smell of the fireplace that is)! ;)

:cloud9: Ahhhh, that fireplace scent! Can't beat it!

We have definitely run across this problem - that's what sealed the decision to add on park hoppers! We were on the fence, but don't want to spend a full day at MK on a Spectro day. (We always avoid EMHs if at all possible.) Same thing with F! - from what I've heard, it's preferable to skip DHS on a F! night.

We found this to be true in December. Our night at DHS was a Fantasmic night and it was really busy! But, it was busy with tour groups, who thankfully watched all the big shows it seemed, so the lines for the rides turned out to be fairly short as the day went on.

Holy cow, Chelsea is growing up FAST! She looks completely different! What a beautiful girl.

LOVE LOVE LOVE all the pictures! The mother/daughter one and the one of Connor and Chelsea as Pharaoh's are my favorite I think. Chelsea's comments on Harrison Ford, and about the make-up cracked me up!

It really sounds like it was a great day - I hope Henry grows up loving museums too, both Joe and I do!

And of course, the bathrooms sign. :rotfl: I laughed so hard, I even brought Joe over to look!! I love that it was themed!

No luck for Cincy--but it does come to Indy after its' visit to Dallas, so we might be able to make a little road trip. Megan loved the Indy Children's museum last time, so I might be able to persuade them!

Oh and love how many Disney things I can spy in the first pic of Chelsea posing. I think I see your lanyard with pins, a pen perhaps and a family photo? :goodvibes It's important to keep as much Disney around you as you can, I think! ::yes::

I meant to comment on this part of your post last night, Christine, but I must have gotten distracted (which is very easy to do between the dogs and the children) -- we do have a lot of Disney stuff scattered around the house -- that was just the kitchen desk in that picture -- there is a little bit of Disney in every room of the house. :rotfl:

Wow I totally would have appreciated that King Tut exhibit as much as you did! I loveee history especially since I'm going to be a social studies/history teacher right now and can't even imagine how cool it was. Yeah, I'm a dork :rotfl:

You're in good company! :lmao: I miss teaching social studies -- when I taught 6th grade social studies we would do an ancient Egypt unit and wrote our names in hieroglyphs -- always fun!

:cloud9: Ahhhh, that fireplace scent! Can't beat it!

I am so looking forward to it being a daily part of our trip! :goodvibes

We found this to be true in December. Our night at DHS was a Fantasmic night and it was really busy! But, it was busy with tour groups, who thankfully watched all the big shows it seemed, so the lines for the rides turned out to be fairly short as the day went on.

I am holding onto my hope that we will be able to avoid the Fantasmic/Spectro and the EMH crowds.

Holy cow, Chelsea is growing up FAST! She looks completely different! What a beautiful girl.

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing about Henry today when I was reading your updates -- he has changed a lot just in between your two trips!

:LOVE LOVE LOVE all the pictures!

Thank you -- I ordered prints of almost all of them -- mostly to scrapbook -- but I think I will buy a frame for the one of Chelsea and me for my desk at work.

I bet Henry does -- I grew up with my parents taking me to museums all the time and I never lost my love of them!

And of course, the bathrooms sign. :rotfl: I laughed so hard, I even brought Joe over to look!! I love that it was themed!

I figured you would get a kick out of it! I was loving all the theming -- it was "almost" as good as Disney -- almost. ;)

No luck for Cincy--but it does come to Indy after its' visit to Dallas, so we might be able to make a little road trip. Megan loved the Indy Children's museum last time, so I might be able to persuade them!

Oh, you should make it a plan to head to Indy -- from what I can tell the one in Dallas is an even bigger exhibit!

Magic Kingdom Must-Dos

Continuing on with our February theme of the Magic Kingdom, I have started figuring out which rides and attractions we definitely want to do while we are there.

As it stands right now, we will be headed to the Magic Kingdom when we arrive that Saturday, and then we will do a full day that Wednesday. Charles is not a big fan of MK and the one ride that he adores (Space Mountain) will be down for a rehab.

I may have to change our days there, though, depending on park hours, EMHs, and the Spectro schedule. So, things are tentative on which days for which parks right now until Disney takes pity on me and posts some hours.

After almost 35 years of going to the Magic Kingdom, I pretty much know exactly which things we want to do and which rides we can skip.

Adventureland:
* The Jungle Cruise: Connor and I love the campy fun of this ride. Always have!
* Pirates of the Caribbean: I remember always being terrified of the drop when I was little and still find myself tensing up when it is about to happen. I adore this ride – especially the beginning with the ominous declarations of “Dead Men Tell No Tales.” I can almost smell the cannon smoke just typing about it.

Frontierland:
* Splash Mountain: You would think if I tense up about the drop in POTC then I would tense up about the drop in Splash Mountain, but I can’t get enough of it. I am always so happy on this ride – maybe because Brer Rabbit is a Georgia creation and it’s Southern to the core.
* Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: I hate this ride. Really I do. I rode it for the first time at Disneyland when I was about five or six, and I couldn’t tell you anything that happens on it. I have kept my eyes shut for the majority of this ride since 1980. The rest of the family loves it though so I will just shut my eyes and hold on tight. In my perfect world BTMRR and Space Mountain would both be closed for rehabs – except that my family would be crushed.
* Tom Sawyer Island: Chelsea and Connor want to go explore it – we might if it seems to fit in.

Liberty Square:

* Haunted Mansion: This is another favorite of mine – Doom Buggies, Hitchhiking Ghosts, and the Stretching Room – it doesn’t get any better than this in my opinion.

Fantasyland:
* it’s a small world: Charles hates this ride – I mean, really, really can’t stand it. It’s the song, and he won’t even stand near the ride entrance for very long. The kids and I love to terrorize him by singing the song at the top of our lungs. He will have to go do something else while the rest of us ride it.
* Peter Pan’s Flight: It’s just so cute!
* Mickey’s Philharmagic: I think we will enjoy sitting in a cool theater for a little bit and watching Donald’s antics.
* Mad Tea Party: The last of my five favorites. My mom says I have been begging to go on the teacups since I was able to talk.

Mickey’s Toon Town:
* Pixie Hollow: Chelsea and I want to meet Tinkerbell! We will be there at rope drop on our full day there.
*Barnstormer: Chelsea and Charles will want to ride this I am sure.

Tomorrowland:
This is so Connor’s favorite land. We will have to do Buzz Lightyear, Stitch (heaven help us), and Monsters, Inc. No TTA or Space Mountain though. :sad2:

That’s fifteen rides and attractions for a day and a half plus all the food and other things we want to do while at the Magic Kingdom. Those park hoppers may be a necessity after all.

I'm glad I am not the only one who tenses up on the drop on Pirates. I love the ride but the drop makes me freak each time. I won't do Splash though. I have done it exactly one time and I don't care to repeat it. I remember loving everything before the big drop but it's just not worth it to me. Eeek!

Sounds like you have a lot to get accomplished on your MK days! I think you can do it all. :thumbsup2
