Got costume for MNSSHP & I look like a DORK!

I just don't know if I can bring myself to it. I had my costume made to go along with my hubby's and I got it today in the mail. I hate to throw money to the wind, but I look like such a dork in it. Now I'm thinking about finding Halloween T-shirts and possibly making hubby mad. He is game about dressing up, does every Halloween. I'm just not like that.
Our tickets are for the 3rd. I've been worried all along that not many adults will be dressed up that early in the month for this event, but now... What should I do? Eat the money I've spent and save the costume? Just go in Halloween T-shirts? I just don't know if I can go feeling so dorky and still have a good time. Thoughts? I get the feeling many on these boards dress up, but is this really a large percentage of adults that will that are there? It is kinda like a no win situation - go dressed and feel like a dork and possibly not many adults are dressed up OR wear Halloween T-shirts and then be disappointed with myself cause I see lots of adults dressed.
I need therapy.

I dressed up in a big Eeyore costume a few years ago. I admit that I looked pretty funny. When we went to have our photo taken, one of the CMs helping us couldn't stop laughing. I had fun so it was worth it.

Go for it, you only live once! :)

I felt the same way as you. We went to the party a couple years ago and very few adults were dressed up. I felt kind of foolish to be honest, but the CMs all made a fuss over us and it wasn't so bad. When you think about it, how many people will you run into that you'll ever see again anyways (what is your costume anyways?) If you are worried about being the only one without a costume, that isn't going to happen. Do what makes you happy.:D

It is Alice and hubby is Mad Hatter. I look like I should be working the fields in Amish country in it. I just don't know if I can do it. I just tried it on again and I look like an idiot. Stinks cause I've already put so much money into these outfits. I know hubby will wear his on Halloween night while taking the kids out. He enjoys dressing up.

I wonder....
I think I might go get us some Halloween T-shirts and plan on that instead. Then maybe pack a bag with our costumes and take it with us. How big are the lockers at MK? Anyone know? Then if we see alot of adults dressed up we can change...
Are all the lockers up front under the railroad station?
We have a PS at LTT at 5:15 so I'd hate to back track, but I don't recall any other lockers.

We dressed up last year but we did the 10/31 party. I thought about 65-70% of the adults were in costume. BUT that was halloween. Now we are doing the 10/1 party this year. We have costumes but now DH doesn't think he'll be comfortable-- he thinks it's tight in the backside-- I don't think so. Anyhow we are headed to the mall in awhile to check out the Disney Store sale and I think we're gonna pop into Old Navy to look at the Halloween shirts. The only positive side is-- I was bringing a whole separate suitcase for the costumes. That could be eliminated.

The only lockers are up front under the train. I wish they'd add some by Splash Mtn.

kilee, I just called Disney Store and they said they had Halloween T-shirts. Do you mind posting back what you see if you go tonight and if they are on sale? I'd really appreciate it. My youngest is a handful to take out. :hyper:

Shan, Hee hee, I have read a lot of your posts & always thought you were a man! Sorry!
Alice sounds cute, I bet you are being overly critical (as we women often are). You can always try to sell your costume on eBay but Halloween is just one of those times when you can throw fashion, etc out the window & anything goes! I say "you go girl"!!!!!!!!!

That is funny Erin! A man?!? ;)

No, really I look like a dork in it. I'm not kidding.

Go for it, who cares. Just go and have fun!

We always see ourselves differently than others do.

I think you need to post a picture of you in the costume so we can give the right advice.

We did MNSSHP twice last October both on a Friday and Sunday evening. I went with my DD 16. I dressed as Pinocchio and talk about "dork" honey--that was me!

HOWEVER, I had the best evenings I've ever experienced at WDW! There were many, many adults dressed and like us, many that were groups of adults with no children in tow! I did find more dressed up on Sunday than Friday (go figure!)

Yes, I did get a few looks and stares. So what--I just blushed and laughed! One lady in particular said to me while waiting in line for Pooh "You couldn't pay me enough money!" That's fine. I just laughed. She didn't mean anything by it and I appreciated her honesty. We both just ended up laughing!

On the other hand, for as many people who did stare or say something (I couldn't count it on two hands), there were fifty times for people who commented on how cute I looked, etc. It's those comments I remember most! I actually had a person ask me while waiting for the parade, if I really was a WDW Character! He was about 30ish and would not believe me when I said I was not the real Pinocchio! Not kidding!!! I had kids come up to me and shake my hand, etc. We actually had people stop me and ask to take my picture with their family!!! Both my DD and I are in total strangers pictures. It was just so cool! We had a blast with it. It's truly what you make of it. The best was during the parade--Ghepetto was walking down the street and glanced over and saw me sitting on the curb on Main Street. He quickly came over and stood me up and joked with me! My daughter thought it was great and cool that for a brief second, Mom was in the parade with him!

Just a hint--we did PS at LTT. Like you, I didn't want to wear my costume into the park so early. I carried it in the park in a bag. After dinner (during the time the park closed and the event started), we dressed in the rest rooms in Tomorrowland. We wore very light shorts and tank tops so we could just slip the costumes on over our clothes. I quickly added some make-up while sitting on the bench outside. It worked out great! You could also put your clothes in a locker on Main Street Train Station but IMO--not worth the money or the walk to do so. With your costume you should be able to dress right over light clothes.

Honestly--have fun with it. It's a great time to be a kid again. Don't you remember how fun it was to dress up at Halloween as a kid? I'm sure we all looked like dorks when we were younger. Trust me--you'll have fun. If you put your costume on over light clothese and are uncomfortable, just change back!

Hope you change your mind!

I wonder what it is that you specifically find wrong with the costume - perhaps some adjustments could be made to make it more to your liking.

If you can you should post the picture and perhaps then some help can come your way.

I wouldn't worry about looking like a dork - I would think it would be more fun to be there as a Disney couple and if your husband has a good Mad Hatter costume it would be a shame to let that go to waste.

And if its any consolation I am going this year dressed as the Fairy Godmother - I have never been before but I made this costume several years back and its a dead ringer for the Fairy Godmother...taking Cinderella, Mary Poppins and Tinkerbell with me (and we are ages 17,27, 48 and 62!) Tink is the 17 year old and Mary is the 62 year old. We don't care if people think we are funny -- we know we are FUN! Also taking an 8 year old Jasmine with us.

My DH & I cant wait until we can get down to MNSSHP. We are going on 10/8 -- NO KIDS IN TOW!! We are dressing up and acting like kids....after all isnt that what Walt wanted at WDW??

This is your vacation...be a kid, dress up, and get in those candy lines!!!
:thewave:

Only a few days left!!

Last year (our 1st MNSSHP) we just wore Halloween t-shirts because I didn't want to dress up. This year my DH wants to dress up and he decided to go as Caesar and ordered a costume online. He tried it on as soon as he got it and it looks really cool.

Well, I looked online for a Cleopatra costume so I'd match DH and found one that looked pretty neat and had some nice accessories.

My costume came a few days ago and no way am I going to wear the white sleeveless slip dress part of it! It's made of a fabric that is too clingy and see through! I looked awful!

I didn't want to waste the money I spent so I am using all the pieces of the costume except for the dress. The other pieces are a headpiece, gold/jeweled collar, gold/jeweled wrist bands, a gold belt, and a snake arm wrap. I am just going to wear a white sleeveless top and white shorts with the accessories. So, from the waist up the costume will look the same as if I wore the dress but instead of having a long skirt I'll have on shorts. Not too bad I think.

I didn't want to feel uncomfortable and awkward and this get-up will be much better!

lenshanem,
If my short, Fred Flinstone feet, no legs DH can dress up and not feel like an idiot, I wouldn't worry about it.

My DH is planning on going as Capt Jack Sparrow while DD & I will be pirate maidens/wenches. As I said, DH is short 5'6", has a 27" inseam (no legs) and lately his feet look like Fred Flinstone feet. Plus he has an extremely low waistline. He will be wearing a wig and scarf and possibly a hat too. He bought one wig and DD & I almost died laughing. He looked like a too old hippie. It was hysterical:rotfl: First off when he put the wig on, he had it halfway down his forehead. So when I got myself some what under control, I fixed it for him. Once we got the scarf on it didn't look too bad, but before that...:rotfl: :rotfl:

I say just go for it. You will probably feel fine once you get there and you will probably be glad you did dress up.

I know my costume will probably add 10 pounds to me, but at this point I really don't care. We are having them made, and I can't wait to see them.

Go, Dress Up, Enjoy Yourself!!!::yes:: ::yes::

I told hubby I wasn't going to dress up, that I was sorry I spent the money. He said he didn't care he was going to dress up without me. :( So... it didn't go well.

All of you that are dressing up - are ya'll going closer to the end of the month? Cause one thing I'm worried about is we are going on the 3rd. I would think less people would be dressed up.

I told hubby we could pack our costumes and take them with us for a locker and he didn't like that idea either. :(

I feel Amish in it. Not sure I even look like Alice. I had it made and ordered it. The length is a little longer than I probably would have had it. It is nice quality, though. I also think the collar is a little big.

Remember, there is always going to be someone who looks sillier than you.

Sounds like all you need is a crinoline slip, or some way to make the dress stand out.

I wouldn't worry about the date--it's a Halloween party after all! Take the costumes, dress up, and have fun!!!

We're going to be there from the 2nd to the 9th. Didn't get tickets to the party, though. I think I'm regretting that decision. It would be fun to dress up for one night as something (someone?) Disney.

Maybe next year--that'll give me plenty of time to think about what I want to be.
