Got attacked by dogs tonight.

You did the right thing....you said it was the first physical attack but I can guarantee you it wouldn't have been the last if they would attack like that without any provication. Sounds like they went into pack mentality.

Wow. You all are too awesome. Thanks so much. I didn't sleep more than a couple hours last night because I was so worried that the neighbors would retaliate somehow. Really sucks not to sleep when the baby is sleeping through the night! Arugh.

Anyway, it was blissfully quiet when I went out to my car this morning. No dogs frantically barking or charging the fence.

The Animal Control officer is supposed to stop by our house today, check out our dog and get statements from the neighbors who heard the attack. I am just still so grateful that the baby wasn't hurt. It could have been so much worse.

For those who have been through this, thanks for sharing your story as well. For some odd reason, it really helps me to deal with the emotional fallout.

Thank you Igg for reporting this attack! So many people do not report dog attacks! I am also glad that you, your daughter and your dog are alright physically. I've been attacked several times by dogs while out running and although I haven't suffered great physical health, I constantly deal with the mental/emotional trauma suffered from the experiences.

Also, if I were a dog owner, I would be mortified if my dog had attacked another dog or person and would immediately take full responsibility for the situation and it would start by apologizing.

I would have your dog checked by your Vet, sometimes there can be very small puncture wounds that can get badly infected, this happened to our dog when bitten by another. I had checked her and it did not appear she had any but when I took her to the Vet she did.

The bottom line is no one got hurt, but you just wrote those two dogs their death sentence. Congratulations

i am surpised it took this long for someone to say something like this.......it is the one part of online communities i do not care for..........someone always has to try to make trouble or make someone feel bad about something they had no control over.....OP, just ignore this crap.

So kobesam...I am curious, what would YOU have done if your neighbor's dogs attacked your dog while you were out for little stroll with your infant in tow?:confused3

Wow, simply amazing! The party at fault here is the owner of the two dogs who has not trained them and has them under no control at all.

Actually, no I didn't. If you had accurately read my previous post, you would have noticed that I said that, according to the animal control officer, the dogs will most likely be released to the owners in about a week with stipulations regarding training requirements and locked gates for them to be behind.

If they don't pass temperament testing, than I'm very sorry that they will be put down, but that is the owners fault for mistreating their dogs and creating a situation in which my baby, my dog and myself could have been seriously injured or killed.

You definitely did the right thing by reporting this to the police. If it were me, I'd go a step further, too. I'd find out who they have homeowner's insurance with, and let them know about the incident. They would want to know what happened, so that they can know what sort of risk they are insuring.

Dogs that bite once are a lot more likely to bite again. You may have gotten away without much injury (thankfully) but the next person might not get away so lucky.

I'm a huge dog lover, but there are responsibilities that come with dog ownership.

Wow... there's always one. Here's hoping he/she is never the victim of a vicious dog attack. And when I say never, I mean soon.

No one got hurt so OP should have just "let it go" is the point you're trying to make? If so, that's a stupid point. They could have been seriously hurt (did you read any of the other stories on here, including mine?) and ignoring the situation would give the dogs the oppertunity to possibly do this again...with greater consequences. Imagine all the other things in life that get ignored since "no one got hurt" or "nothing serious happened."

I am in no way blaming the dogs for doing what is in their nature and what they have been trained is ok. I am blaming the owners for that training. I sympathize with these animals and don't think it is fair that they would be killed if deemed "dangerous" but considering the fact that no one was hurt they will probably be returned to the owners and given another chance at life. Let's hope these owners have learned their lesson and will train their dogs.

Why did you feel the need to send me a threatining PM? All I did was issue an opposing view? I did not wish harm on anyone here?

please. you did not "issue an opposing view." you purposely made a statement that very well may be false, with the intention of making the OP feel poorly. :sad2:

Yes, no one got hurt. THIS TIME. He has a child to think about, and his own furbaby!

i love dogs more than anything in this world, and they deserve to be treated well, and that includes training and proper care. It does not sound like these dogs are getting that.

truly, if you've never been on the other end of a dog attack...you have no idea how frightening it is. i've been around dogs my entire life, big great danes included (see my avatar pic!), and never felt nervous around them in the least until my own dog bit me in the face when i was 20; i was trying to break up a fight with her and another dog (the other dog was actually the aggressor)...i can totally understand now how kids can be scarred for life by the experience!!!

to this day...my now-ex and i have a running joke, where he calls me DBF...Dog Bite Face (the coding on my medical forms).

Yeah. Stitches in my FACE. See the mark under my eye there? My contact lens had gotten knocked out and that cut was bleeding pretty bad, so at first i thought i lost an eye, because i couldn't see!! i had some puncture wounds on my arms, too. i was SO lucky, it could have been totally worse!!

Uhh, no; check again. I suggested that you might benefit from the perspective of having a similar experience. The point of letting the authorities know about an attack is to help prevent anyone from being harmed in the future. Not reporting it would arguably go against your claim to not wishing harm on anyone. Imagine if next week someone else was attacked/maimed/killed? If anything unfortunate happens to the dogs, that's squarely on the shoulders of the neglectful owners; turn your hostility towards them, not the victim.

As far as reporting or not reporting a dog bite, I recently found out that California law requires the reporting of any dog attack, either on a human or another animal.
So, I was legally obligated to report the bite. Given the viciousness of the attack, even w/o the legal requirement I would have reported it anyway.

I agree totaly it is the owners fault and not the dogs. By the way my cocker spaniel was killed by a pit bull many years ago so don't go preaching to me about dogs attacks it's just that I try to forgive and get over my anger.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you

I'm going to choose to refrain from posting further in this thread and instead make rare use of the Ignore list... shame on me for feeding a troll and letting it go off-topic, I know. Sorry for the interruption, OP. Please let us know if there's any news.
