Gossip Girl -- Are your kids watching it?

So, I'm just wondering, has anyone started watching this show now that two episodes have come on (and the third is tonight)?

This is my DD's favorite new show! She's 15..will be 16 in a few weeks. I watch right along with her because I like it too!:lmao:

I really don't have a problem with her watching at all! She definitely knows the difference between entertainment and reality. It doesn't make her want to run out to the nearest bar..kwim?

As if she could anyway!;)

I agree with what Brier Rose has said. My DD15 also loves this show and I, too, watch it with her. If your child has a good head on his/her shoulders they're not going to rush out and emulate what they see on TV. They're going to make thier own choices based on how you raised them.

DD is homeschooled but based on what her school friends talk about this stuff does go on...quite a lot more than people realize. (And I'm not saying it's only in the traditionally-schooled sector, it's just not something DD has encountered personally). She knows girls that lost their virginity before they started high school and kids who started going to parties where alcohol was present at an even younger age. These are kids from middle class homes in a fairly rural area. It happens everywhere.

I don't really censor too much of what she watches, but she isn't choosing to watch anything that is inappropriate either. I do watch out for excessive, graphic sexual or violent content but that's it. She doesn't drink, smoke, swear or use drugs and she isn't sexually active so so far so good.

I am watching it, DD 11 is not. I had to make her leave the room last night when Carpoolers was on at 7:30 because it was too much for me sex talk wise. I do not think she wants to watch stuff like that yet. Not her thing, Kitchen Nightmares yes, teen drama no.

At 14 I saw American Pie. That was enough education. Nothing I saw after that (until I was 18+ :rolleyes1) was new!

My DD16 and I will be watching it together again tonight. We saw it last week but missed the 1st show. She asked me to watch it with her. At least she wants to spend some time with me. I'll take what I can get. ;)

So I originally thought these kids were at least seniors in HS and getting away with drinking EVERYWHERE in public.....but they're juniors? I mean, I know I used to do that at HS parties but not in public! :rotfl2:

I don't know anything about this show, but is it really any worse than any other teen show/movie from the past? I mean, how bad can it be if it's on TV?

When I was a kid I had some of the most conservative parents amongst my friends when it came to watching R rated movies and that kind of thing. Everyone else was allowed to watch Dirty Dancing when we were in 1st or 2nd grade and I had to trick my aunt and uncle into letting me watch it. Then by 9 or 10 everyone else got to watch Pretty Woman, but not me. Finally once I got to be 11 or 12 my mom gave up and let me watch whatever I wanted. By the time my brother was 15 or so my mom knock on his door to tell him that Sex and the City was on HBO in case he wanted to watch.

I feel like maybe parents have changed since then, because compared to what I read on the DIS, it seems like my parents were very liberal about letting us watch TV/movies?
