GorillaPod

I have one too for my Canon S3 IS, but I went with the GorillaPod SLR version just for the added safety/durability of camera weight. Be sure to find out the weight of your camera including batteries; then look at the specs for each GorillaPod model.

However, I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

I bought it from the GorillaPod website www.joby.com because I couldn't find the SLR version locally at all. Went with the "no packaging" version & used coupon code "GorillaPodLOVE" to save 10% (good till end of 2006)....and free shipping.

I have the little gorillapod and absolutely love it! I haven't found a position that it doesn't work in! To be quite honest I was making DW a cake for her birthday and I had my camera hanging upside down from the range hood over the stove (the thing that has the fan and light). That little guy will hang onto anything. It's worth it's weight in gold....which probably isn't that much because it's so light...but you get the idea :thumbsup2

What else? I've had it on various railings, sideways on a tree, etc.

For 20 bucks, head out and get one.

I also really like it for steady pictures because as long as you can brace the gorillapod on something and then use the timer feature on your camera you can get flawless night time shots without having to use your flash. I'm thinking about getting the bigger one for my new camcorder. The little one works well if it's just sitting on something but if I need it to hang or do something funky it makes me a little nervous.

BTW I have a Sony DSC-P93 P&S camera. It's not exactly ultra-compact and it works well with the gorillapod. This was one of my first concerns but the little guy handles my camera quite well! HTH

thanks so much for the replies! i went and ordered one. i can't wait to get it. it looks awesome and extremely versatile. i have such a shakey hand when it comes to taking still pictures. i'm hoping this will fix that problem!

I just got one, but haven't had much chance to use it yet. I think I'll love it, though!

I went with the DSLR version, since my camera is a little heavy to begin with, and when I throw a lens on, it gets heavier! I can't wait to try it out at WDW!

I've vever heard of these before- I took a look on their website. Looks pretty cool to me - I think I may order the slr one. Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

Jeff: from the looks of you pictures on the "Picture of the Day" thread you don't need the gorillapod to get clearer pictures but they sure are handy if you want to get a shot of you and the rest of the family together. Plus it's probably a bit tough for you to get a stranger to take your picture eh? I wouldn't know up from down when it comes to the Sony H2!

The SLR gorilla pod is a bit "chunkier" for lack of a better term and could possibly be a little less agile than the smaller gorilla pod simply because the smaller one has more "joints". On the other hand I don't think most DSLR owners would like to see their camera hanging upside down...I certainly won't be hanging my camcorder upside down! :scared:

I'd still recommend either gorillapod to anyone!!!

my only question is...what if there isn't anything to attach it to? the photojojo site was selling these( $50 for dslr model, think i holds 6 lbs as well as a really cool little sticky tripody thing for P&S) and said they are as good as a tripod but what if you can't find something to connect it to...?

:scratchin: would it look really funny wrapped around husband's neck :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: in a pinch i mean...course he'd have to stop breathing for a few mins..

I ordered earlier today, the SLR one (though I do not use SLR, the other specs were under the weight of my p&s). I used the site listed above, free shipping, no tax, 10% discount, thanks, Splash.

i suppose you'd have to improvise? i like the wrapping around the neck thing. haha. :lmao:

i like that you can really kind of manuver it around to basically have your camera in any position that it can sit in.

mine should have come in, i haven't been home yet. i'll let you all know how it is when i get it. i'm sure i'll be using it during christmas.

Depends on how tight it's wrapped and the expression on his face :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

well naturally the tightness would be a direct ratio as to how much he is complaining about me taking pictures ...1:1:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Mine came yesterday. I played with it a bit, I'm impressed. I think the feature I like the best is the easy on/off attachment clip, so easy to use. A good investment.:thumbsup2

how large is the big slr one( for the lens also)...can you fold it up or something? wondering how easy it would be to fit in camera bag or attach to it with out it taking up tons of room or jabbing out a passerby's eye or something like that...anyone know if they would compare it to a tripod or a monopod as far as stability goes ? and once the camera is attached how much maneuverability does the head have ie more like a panning head, side to side or a ball head, multidirectional? sorry to ask so many ???but am trying to decide if i should go with one of these instead of trying to figure out how to attach a new head to my broken tripod head i am thinking i could attach one to the top of my headless tripod for height etc but still use it on a tree or something if i don't lug the tripod...any ideas would be helpful

i got mine finally and played around with it a bit this christmas. the pictures i took were definitely awesome even in low light. i have to figure out the physics of getting it to hang on things though. haha. can't wait to use it in disney in a couple of weeks. :yay:

The dimensions are here on the site, Jann. http://www.joby.com/

It can not be folded up, the length dimension is about as short as it will go. It seems quite stable so far to me. And yes, you can move the head around a lot after camera is mounted.

Well, I ordered mine yesterday so I will have it for my next stay at WDW next month. I ordered the SLR version but opted not to get the SLR Zoom since it looked like it needed a seperate tripod head. The one I have coming looks to have a slim quick release I can just leave on the cam for the trip. Looking forward to testing it out.

Well, I broke down and bought the SLR version of this. It holds 6.6lbs and is a sturdy little bugger. It comes with an adapter to allow you to screw on a tripod head or you can just attach the camera directly. You can set it up as a tripod (a very short tripod, mind you) and, if you attach it to something, it stays put. It easily holds my Canon 30D with a 70-300mm lens and, using a remote switch, performs perfectly. Note that if you elect not to use a tripod head, it can take some work to get you composition set correctly. The only adjustments to be made in this situation is to move the legs. I suggest you get a tripod head.
