GorillaPod

I don't have one but have heard good things. There is also a "Gorillapod DSLR" that can support more weight, but it's not sold at Best Buy (and probably not other, similar retailers.)

Do either of you who have one have the slr version?

All I have seen with the dSLR version have the lightest dSLR's mounted with fairly small (and again light) lenses. Joby (manufacturer) is saying that they have a PRO version in development that will handle heavier weights. But there are not any specs released on that yet.

Well...I guess I'm gonna open the box. Sounds like it might be cool. My thought was....it's something that I can keep in my purse along with my camera at all times. (yup, I carry a big purse!) And, I was thinking that during fireworks and such, I could even wrap it around the handle of the stoller for some added stability....that was my thought for buying it anyway.

Well........what do you think of it?? Don't keep us waiting in suspense

I'm seeing mention of some coupon codes if anyone wants to buy one online.

Try googling: gorillapod coupon codes OR joby coupon codes

Not sure how valid they are.

Well, unfortunately, the LCD on my PnS broke yesterday....looks like it has a crack right down the middle of it! Ughh! I was just about to buy a dSLR....now I've got to go out and replace my PnS instead. Hope to do that tonight.....so, I can't test with a working camera right now. But, all in all, the pod seems to hold tightly, and wrap in all sorts of crazy positions. The 'cheesy' look that I said that it had was due to the look of the plastic....but it feels sturdy....not sturdy enough for a dSLR, but fine for a PnS.

I have the original Gorillapod, not the DSLR one. I believe DSLRs like the Rebel could use the bigger one.

Even on a tripod I maintain my standard procedure, I keep the camera strap around my neck. It saved the day on a real windy day when the wind toppled the tripod. The strap stopped the fall.

I saw the Joby GorillaPod posted about here before. Well, I finally got around to looking for cheapest price online.

I found the manufacturer to be the cheapest www.joby.com. Some models can be bought environmentally friendly with no packaging.

I got the GorillaPod SLR model. $39.95
used 10% coupon code: GorillapodLOVE saved $3.99
opted for FREE FedEx ground shipping
Total: $35.96

They list where you can buy them. Best Buy is one. But when I went there a couple of days ago, they don't carry the SLR model.

Check the weight of your camera WITH batteries & pick the correct model. I have a Canon S3 IS & went with the SLR model.

Hope this helps with someones Christmas shopping. ;)

How about some opinions on it - especially the SLR model?

I'm not seriously considering one at this point but it is intriguing, and some positive reviews might make it that much more interesting!

I'd like some reviews, too. I'm thinking about getting one, but it just looks so........funky....just wondering how it is in real life. How small can you fold it/squish it? Is it fairly stable? What about wrapping it around a pole or something round - will it slide down or stay put? Thanks!

does anyone have a gorillapod for their camera? i'm interested in buying one for my trip to disney in january, but i've read mixed reviews... do you have one and you love it? hate it? i'd love to know!

We're looking to purchase one of these as well. I'd also be interested to hear other's reviews of it.

I have one....the smaller one for the PnS cameras. It works well with my S3IS. It will grip on to just about anything. I like it because of the size....it can basically roll up really small and fit anywhere for travel.
