Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Hey gang, sorry no time to catch up,. was in NYC for 4 days...loved it. Will try and catch up

Kim

Syko - glad you're ok!

Big HELLO to everyone!!

My training plan officially starts next week but think I'll start it today. Right after I get new shoes - mine are completely shot and giving me problems.

Also, I've started a new eating plan so hopefully can get myself back on track to weight loss, better endurance and pick up some speed while I'm at it.

Ok, I have unpacked finally....MAN it is hot here.

Syko, so glad to hear you are OK!!!!

Hi Liz:flower3: Hope you find some good shoes.!!!

OK, promise to keep up from now on....so hard to believe we are getting close to everyone starting training.....WOW actually getting excited!!!

ANyone here live in NYC? There was a race of some sort there on Sunday, we only caught the last few people, we didn't know anything about it.

Kim

Oh really? Bummer wish I knew before I would have gotten up early to cheer them on. I thought it was in Oct or Nov?

The last few people went by Times Square about 9:30 ish.

My cousin is running NY as his first full this year. He is a member of the NYRR and if you run enough of their races you are garunteed entry. I really want to go up and cheer him on, but it is so much $$$$.

Katie, we really got some great deals this year. Flight for Mike and I return from Buffalo, $240, last year we paid close to $550 for 3 of us. Hotel last year in Little Korea at the Red Roof Inn 32nd St. $250 per night, this year, $148 per night 500 yards from Times Square at the Comfort Inn on 46th Street. Prices are down huge this year over last year. I know it is because of the ecomony but wow there was alot more people there this year then when we where there last year and lots of shoppers. Didn't have any celeb sightings this year, but who would notice really there was just so many people all the time.

Thanks for the info Kim. Maybe I should just poke around and check out some hotel costs. I would just take the motocoach up but would need to stay overnight so that I am there to see the race. Would also need to find someone to tag along with me. :D

Just checking in with everyone. I have been a little off the internet this past weekend - my internet was shut off and it hopefully will be back on this evening when I get home from work. I have been having withdrawals - LOL. At least I was able to up the turn on date from tomorrow to today so I am keeping my fingers crossed to be up and running again soon.

Syko - glad to hear you are ok after your wreck - that must have pretty scary.

As for me my Goofy training although hasn't officially started I did get a back to back run in this weekend. 2 miles on the TM on Saturday and then 4 miles yesterday outside. I then ended up doing another mile on a bird watching boardwalk later yesterday afternoon - I wasn't going fast with lots of stops to see this bird or that bird or an alligator here or a frog there. Still have an issue with my arch but hopefully with more training and stretching it won't be too bad.

Hi Team!

It is getting close now. I'm still excited and scared, but anxious to get officially started.

Hey Katie - I noticed in your signature that you are doing the NOLA RnR. Cool! A group of us WISHers are registered and set to go. There's an old thread about it somewhere out there. If you haven't booked a room yet we are staying at the Hampton Inn on Carondelet.

Liz - happy shoe shopping. I was lucky enough to get two pairs of the NB shoe I like on sale after they new and improved it.

Take care everyone!

syko...glad to hear you're okay. I can't imagine wrecking at 30mph :scared1: Do I remember right...you had new wheels for Princess? Were they ruined?

Tricia...great to see you back. I fought with the arch thing (PF) forever! It sometimes still feels a bit wonky, but overall better.

Kim...welcome home!

Liz...you can never have too many pairs of shoes! What do you wear?

Pat...you wouldn't want to wait until 2012 for NOLA would ya? The race is on DD6's birthday...don't think I can convince the fam that's a good idea :rolleyes1

I'm still doing the b2b's. I'm trying to increase the Fri mileage on the days that Sat is a cutback run. Today is going to be an unscheduled rest day. I flipped over my handlebars on the bike yesterday...leg and arm are a bit sore. And the bruises are much more spectacular than yesterday!

I had my new chair for the Princess....thats the one I crashed, the only part that can be re-used is the frame!!!!!

Pat: Hadn't decided where I was staying yet. I am meeting some folks that are coming in from Alabama and was hoping they would know the place to stay, lol. I haven't registered yet, but my plan is to fly in and do the 1/2 in NOLA and then fly from there to WDW for the Princess.

Oooh, I like the sound of your plan Katie!!

Mel, Feb 28th is Jim's birthday! We will be celebrating on Bourbon Street. Wendy was planning on doing NOLA in 2010, but I think she posted that now there is another race that she will do instead. So ,she might be interested in NOLA 2011.

Since we are getting a little OT here, I just thought I'd mention the Indy half on May 8th. It is the largest half marathon in the United States and Jim and I liked it so well that we are repeating a state! There's a thread about that race here somewhere too.

I just got home from the gym. Since I decided that Goofy training really requires me to be better at cross-training I wanted to check out the bikes before training officially starts. I did 6.7 miles in 30 minutes - I have no idea if that is an ok effort or not, but I did work up a sweat!

WTG on training everyone!!!!!

Will get back at it today, DS has a 30K race this weekend and DH and I are doing the 15K. It is a night run/walk so should be alot of fun.

Hello, fellow :goofy: people!!

Chris, PLEASE remove the question mark from my status. This will be my first full and first and ONLY Goofy!! You are waaaay too kind to think that I could have EVER done this event before!! :lmao:

Wow, there will be a fantastic WISH group showing their Goofy medals around the park next year!!

Next week starts official training for me. I'm on Pat's training plan..a half marathon a month prior to Goofy. Although, SHE is doing 2 in Dec... The holidays are always the bad spot in training for a WDW Marathon weekend event. Looking to blast right through them and keep my eye on the prize! This will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime event for me.

Keep up the good work, but don't be overstressing..yet!! :goodvibes Anne

:wizard::wizard::wizard:

All done......

I've done one and said I'd never do another. Heck after the 2008 Marathon I said I'd never do another Marathon. Now I'm saying after my second Goofy I'm done with Marathons and the goofy Challenge. We'll see! :rotfl2:

Half's are more my speed. Slow

Hi, gang! I'm still here, but internet problems and LTO have kept me away from being on the DIS as much as I'd like. Hopefully, everything will balance out soon. But I wanted to check in here, briefly, and say hi! "Hi."

Just kidding. :rotfl2: I can't respond to everyone (much as that is my MO), so here's a few shout outs!

:welcome: to everyone who's new to WISH, Disney races, or Goofy. It'll be a wild and crazy ride! (Hi to Stacey and Henry, which are the last names I saw!)

Pat: Great Scott, Jim did a fantastic job refurbing your TG. (Or maybe I should say Great Jim!)

JenB: I think we should just use the "everyone else is doing it" to justify traveling to all Disney races. Works for me! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:
(Pssst, I want to be with all the cool kids, so just don't jump off a cliff, 'ka?)

Richard: Yay! This makes my week. :yay: Not as much as you registering for the Princess 1/2 :rolleyes1, since I knew you'd be there in January regardless, but still....

Brandie: So sorry to hear about your stress fracture. Did your doctor recommend alternate exercise that might help you keep your running conditioning up a little? Maybe an elliptical machine? I used that last year when I injured my back and while I lost a lot of conditioning, I felt the elliptical did help. And, of course, you do have a strong base.

Kirsite~Louise: A crash? :scared1: I'm glad to hear you're okay and hope that the repairs to the chair aren't too expensive.

Wendy: Oh, hugs. I wish I had an answer for you, but I tend to follow plans for my interval pacing to the best of my ability, and fudge what I can't do. Left on my own devices for speed training I'll default to a fartlek strategy, which isn't the best thing to develop speed. (At least for me. It makes me complacent.) I will say that I think I'm a stronger runner since I've been training on hills--which doesn't necessarily make me that much faster but does allow me to complete distances on flatter courses more easily. Maybe add some hill training? Oh, and I think you deserve a big :worship: for doing so well. Remember you STRONG for 14/16 miles (your words). And that's nothing to sneeze at. :woohoo:

Lily: Okay, this is totally off the wall but I'm in a coffee shop right now, sitting across from a woman who looks just like you. (Well, you're prettier, but the resemblance IS striking! Even the haircut is similar.)

Chris:

:rotfl2: Why don't I believe you'll be done with them?

As for me: The Goofy training started for me, mostly because it's too much work for me to distinguish between training for the Baltimore 1/2 (October) and the Goofy. So I'll be treating Baltimore as a training run. A hilly training run. :scared1: I hope to maybe add another 1/2 in November, but I don't know if expenses will allow for that. I didn't realize it was the Pat plan, Anne! :rotfl2: Adding the XT is slightly more challenging, although like Pat and Duane I need to concentrate on such things.
