Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

I've finished with my 8 miler in 40 degree sunny weather and it was amazing! Good for me at a 13:30 pace! I have not seen that in ever. Got to see a beaver knawing on things, duckies swimming, and as I turned back I looked up and saw the eagle soaring. Lovely today! I actually had fun and am living to talk about it. I have no idea why, not a pain, no ache, nothing. Just a hair of a tingle, but it went away. I'm hoping that I won't really need that epidural now. So, I'm putting off making the doc apt and will see where I go from here. Now Kirby Dog is hanging around me so I need to get his 2-miler stroll going.

PS: I definitely think I am a cold weather participant.

Got in my 13.1 miles this morning. (Was only scheduled for 13 but figured I would make it a nice even half ;) ) Grand total for the week: 50 miles!!! I have never done that before! And I am tired, but not sore. Can't believe it.

Lily - So glad you had a good 8 miler today!

Christine - Congrats on breaking 13 min/miles. Woohoo!

Keep it up everyone!!

Reporting in: W14D6 Goofy training

Anne and I finished 16 miles at the I&M Canal. What perfect weather to be outside! We saw the usual ducks, geese, and herons, along with a couple of pheasants and some deer. DH dropped us off and then surprised us along the trail a couple of times scream teaming, and then joined us a little further down the trail and kept us company. We will be heading out to a celebratory dinner in a little bit.

Repoting in for my Turkey Miles...

Thursday - 6.2 miles and the Virtual WISH 10k.
Friday - Shopped all day
Saturday - 9.1 miles then shopped most of the day.
Today - 13.2 miles.

Have a 20 this Friday most likely and then one in two weeks, but that's the only thing left over 12 I think.

I'm so done with this distance for a long time if not ever.

Chris mine is similar, I have 18M on Sat and 2 weeks from now 20M. The weeks inbetween are pull backs. Will be glad when trainning is over and time for the main event!!!

Not much to report from the weekend. Last week I doubled up on intensity on my mid week runs then guessed wrong on the weather for my weekend run. I had family leaving the house on Saturday so I decided to push my long run backto Sunday. The weather did not cooperate. I got 14 in on an unseasonably warm day. 71F with near 100% humidity at the start and the sun came out for a visit about mid run. I decided to do a cross country stint for 4 miles and that was almost a mistake. The right knee tendons objected to the differing loads a gravel (small rocks really more than gravel) trail presents. Anyway, the fifth Goofy medal may be the hardest to achieve as I still find motivation lacking.

Charles, so sorry to hear about your motivation difficulties. You are such a great help and inspiration to so many... I know training is a good thing, but I think experience has to count for something as well. If your training doesn't get you a PR, it seems like your experience as an athlete will more than carry you through those 2 days. Maybe the plan should be just to have fun! Maybe try something new and different and walk with us back of the packers?! (GoofyWalkerGirl)

I have the same thing scheduled - a 20 miler saturday then a twelve the next weekend (I am actually doing a half that day) and then another 20 and then TAPER!! Woohoo! Are you doing the Higdon Intermediate I plan? That is what I am using. Modified it a little, but so far so good.

I am happy to report I went out yesterday for a 14 miler - it was my first training run ever over 12 miles outside - of course I did the marathon last year but all my long long training runs were done inside on the TM. It was a new adventure for me to do the 14 miles outside. I thought to myself I am doing MORE than a half marathon today. It took me 3 hours averaging out to a 13 minute mile - I am happy with that. Next week I have an 18 miler planned then 14 the next weekend, a 20 the next after that start the 2 week taper - with a 12 one week and 8 the next. I am actually starting to feel better about my chances with this Goofy thing. I may not get it done in the time I would like but I WILL get it done.

Didn't have time to catch up on this message so I hope others are doing well in their training. Happy Monday (not - its my first day back after 10 days off - only good thing is the day is flying and I only have 1 hour 15 mins left)

Out today for an 8 miler. Must have had too much pumpkin pie over the weekend...I really struggled to get a 12:50 pace. :sad2:

Ugh, so sorry to hear of the warm weather trekking. As for the motivation. Boy do I get this one. All I can offer is what has been mentioned. Can you step back and just go out for the sheer fun of the journey. Plan lots of pic ops and play. I'd say I'm doing that, but since I'm a back of the packer, I struggle to make it over within time already and cannot go any slower.

A quick fly by :)

This morning started in a rush as I had set my alarm for PM but thankfully woke up 20 minutes before I was suppose to leave. Bad thing though I just left the gym clothes to home.

Good thing, from reading the group threads at lunch (might have been Frank's post?) I saw someone mention taking advantage of possibly the last time to be able to wear shorts.

Well that got me thinking, it was I think around 38 this evening and with the houses to break the wind it really shouldn't be THAT bad if I tossed on an extra layer and a fleece pull over instead of a jacket and 2nd shirt.

Talked myself into taking one of the dogs for a few miles and we ended up running 4 miles at a 12:45 min/mile pace. Dropped her off, tossed my dinner into the oven and grabbed the short one and headed out for another 1.25 miles but she's a corgi so we ended with a 16:30 avg pace. I told her had she not done so much running in the beginning and learned to pace herself better :rotfl: but she takes after me ;)

Hope the weather plays nice with everyone this week!

Hi Everyone,

I feel like I'm way behind in Goofy training. I did my first b2b this weekend. 6 and 12 miles. It was not nearly as hard as I imagined it would be. I hope I can say the same about 13.1/26.2 in January. I hope everyone's training is going well.

Becky - A very similar plan. I came up with a plan last year after my first Marathon for Goofy 2009. I then got Duane's Schedule and with Charles' advice planned out my schedule. Which I'm basically using the same plan for 2010.

Hey Guys!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I don't have anything to report today since I took yet another week off :sad2: I ran my 1/2 the week before last and then I was all set to take my running things up north to where we were staying with some family but I went for a 3 miler on Wed morning and my leg was not playing and I ended up walking most of the way back, so I figured I would give it 6 days off while I was up there to get its act together :rotfl: and then hope that it can hold on through the next few weeks, I am not telling it that it has to run 39.3 miles in a month because I think it might go on total strike :rotfl2: So I am hoping to put a couple of miles in today then go to the pool tomorrow to stretch it out, and I have 8/16 planned for this weeked :scared1: then I just have a 9/18 before tapering.

How long is everyone else's taper going to be and how many miles are you doing those weeks?

It's getting so close, I personally keep switching from terrified :scared1: to excited :yay: to nonchalance :cool2:

Everyone else sounds like they are doing so good

Charles - just keep going, everyone has those times when they aren't very motivated (some of us more than others :lmao:) but you have so much experience to bring to the table that I wouldn't be too worried :woohoo:

Syko - I cringe everytime I come on here and read about your chair issues :sad1::sad1: I can't even imagine how frustrated you are, I hope you can get it all sorted out soon.

Everyone else, keep it up, not long now till we are all clad in green and standing freezing our butts off at the start lines :scared:

See you real soon :thumbsup2

Kirsty

Well after my 19 on Thanksgiving I've been a slug :). I did 6 on Saturday then a measly 3 on the treadmill yesterday. Hate that thing!

But, in my defense, I did fly to Vegas and had a a lot of group activities this weekend including a wedding.

I will get in another 5 on Wed and Fri before the Las Vegas half on Sunday.

Otherwise, I am with Chris, looks like I have a 20 miler in a fewweeks then taper baby! Might mix it up a bit because my schedule is thrown off with this race then going to Wisconsin the weekend of my 20 miler.

I am with everyone else, the motivation is lacking this year. Not sure what it is. The first year was my first marathon so I was excited about that. Then my first Goofy and I was excited about that. But, since I have done these, the excitement isn't there. Of course once I get to Disney and see all my friends, I know the excitement will be back!

Hang in there all,
Duane

Glad to hear I am not the only one who is lacking motivation - I vary between being excited to being scared that its going to take me forever to finish. The other thing that is stressing me out is that I still haven't booked a room - I definately want to be on Disney property and I want my sister and her girls to come with me and my DH I just don't want to pay half a fortune for a room. UGH - its somewhat my fault because I have been waiting for the AP or FL resident rates to come out and they just came out and of course there is like NO discounts for that weekend.

Oh well I have 18 miles scheduled for Sunday so we shall see how that goes. I have 9 planned for Saturday which would give me a decent back to back but I am not sure if I will be able to get all 9 miles in on Saturday. I definately know I need to get the 18 miles in (I just pray Sunday doesn't get here and I end up shortening my mileage due to anything - that seems to be the norm for me lately - shorten the distance - unfortunately I can't do that Jan 9 & 10)

Tricia - Do you have a disney visa? I know they have codes out for then for $89 night at a moderate. I don't know what the availability is though. I hope you book a room soon!

It was pouring here today so I got in 5 on the TM. I don't know how some of you do LR on the TM. But I did get in 8 yesterday outside and tomorrow will hopefully be nice for another 5 before my 20 on saturday!

Becky

Just a few more weeks, HANG IN THERE! We're going for that special medal - a one of a kind medal. The 5th anniversary medal! We can do it! Get those long runs in, don't shorten them unless you absolutely have to. It's only a few hours out of a day. No biggie. We spend at least that much time on the DISboards sometimes.

The above is what I keep playing in my mind. I'm having to convince myself that it will all be worth the effort I'm putting into this. I'm scared at times, too, Tricia. I had a dream the other night that while I was in the process of taping my feet for blister prevention, I heard the gun go off for the WDW half-marathon. By the time I made it to the start line, I was told it was too late. I remember thinking (in my dream) that if I had to miss one of the races, I'd rather it be the full than the half. ;) What's really odd about this dream is that I never have panic attacks or rarely even dream about races. I just go out and do them. However, this dream seemed soooo real to me. I'm not sure what it means. I'm hoping it just means that I need to be sure to set my alarm clock a little earlier the night before.
