Is anyone else sad that Alien Encounter will close for good on Oct. 12?
I thought it was a unique addition to Tomorrowland.
Oh well, hasta la vista Skippy!

well they want to change it to add Stitch and make it more kid friendly. I also heard that Skippy will still be there :)

The redevelopment is scheduled to last about a year.
If anyone saw the teaser trailer for "Stitch: The Movie", they may have noticed that the chamber and hallway stitch crawls through is very similar architecturally to the Alien building.
I have always enjoyed AE, but change can be a good thing, especially if it will result in an attraction that has a wider audience. You can't please everybody, but you can sure try.

This is new news to me. So are they really changing the attraction alot or are they just adding a few things to it?

Closing Alien Encounter, with teh swamps of people always in the lines??? For Lilo & Stitch??

Don't you love how Disney asks its guests before it makes decisions like this one...

I'm one of those people that are glad to see this get revamped. I did it several yars ago and came out saying.."Okay. And the point was what??" This is the only attraction I have never done more than once. I think it will be much improved with the update. I have to wonder how many people really loved this attraction. I know there was always a crowd waiting but how many were repeats?? Just mho.

I never like it...actually hated it...I'm not sure if Sitch can make it better...

Agree!!

Agree!!!

It needed to go.....but for Stitch?????? Disney can do better!!!

When I was there last Nov we skipped it. Once or twice is enouigh it seems to lose some of the magic experience after awhile.

I read somewhere that the are keeping the Carousel of Progress and Timekeeper open during the closure. Is that true?? And will those attractions be open during value season or peak season?

I am not sorry to see it go.. it horrified me since I am claustrophobic.. it was all my worst fears all rolled into one.. strapping you down, shutting the lights and breathing hot air and water on you.. EEK!!!!!:D

Yea!!!! I have never done AE. I am clostrophobic so wouldn't do it! That's going to be my problem with Mission Space! Otherwise I love the thrill rides!

I sure hope Ragu is right about plans to keep COP and Timekeeper open while they redo AE. Those two rides have been closed every time we've been to WDW, and I was really doubting that we'd ever get to ride either one. But if they keep them open while AE is revamped, and AE will be closed about a year, then that means COP and Timekeeper would be open for our trip in June. Woo hoo!!

As far as the original topic of this thread goes, our family rode AE once, thought it was OK, but never planned to ride it again. We all love Stitch, and I think the revamp is an excellent idea.

I went once and swore I would never do it again. It scared the pants off of me! I hope that with changing it to a Stitch Encounter, that it will be more kid friendly (and scaredy cat friendly for people like me  ).

Are you joking? Certainly you must be joking...
AE rarely has a queue longer than 15 minutes (often times it's a walk-on), and on average there is a longer wait for the Lilo and Stitch meet-and-greet at MGM than for AE.

If anything, this change is the result of hearing lots of feedback from guests, primarily that many think of AE as being too scary, and also the solid popularity of Lilo and Stitch.

I also agree!
Not too scary, just too...lame. ;)

I read so much about AE before this last trip we took (came back a week ago) and DH and I thought it was the worst attraction in all of Disney. Of course, that's just our opinion, but we practically walked out laughing at that attraction...and how dumb it was to us. Plus, we were mad for even wasting our time on it (thank goodness there was no line for it). Add me to the list of people glad to see AE go. Now, that said, Stitch??? I have not been interested in the Lilo and Stitch mania at all and I really think Disney could come up with something better for this tomorrowland attraction vacancy. I'll be interested to see how they do it though.

Personally I am thrilled at the idea of a Stitch attraction. Tomorrowland is the perfect place for him (since he is, of course) an alien. I think he will fit in perfectly.

Of course I'm going to have trouble dragging my 69yo mother out of there. She ADORES Stitch. :D

I certainly won't shed a tear for it i think disney are doing the right thing in getting rid however i believe that they do need to keep some adult type rides/attractions too and possibly they should have used the space for a teen/adult attraction and done something else with stich for the kids.

This was never one of my favorites. I like timekeeper better and I love COP. I hope they are both open in January.
