Has anyone flown with Air Tran? Is it a good airline?

I just found flights for our trip; the total is $997 for 5 of us (2 adults, 3 kids) for the dates we need in December. This is Philly to Orlando.

Is this a good price? It's been years since we've flown, is the average $200/pp or should I keep looking for a better rate?

TIA :)

No issues here with AT. They do change flight times but are great at working with you to get you on new flight at no fee. We had a flight change by an hour or so and got on the first flight of the morning on the way to Disney. The main thing is in your price FACTOR IN THE COST OF PAYING FOR SEAT ASSIGNMENTS....with 3 kids you are going to want to sit together (unless kids are older and you don't care). Don't wait until the 24 hour mark and try to find seats for 1 parent (and 1 or 2 kids) together. With full flights it is hard to do (some will say they had no issues BUT is it a risk you are willing to take. Flights to Disney are full of families and kids so it is worth paying for. AT doesn't have to move people who paid for seats to seat you and your kids together. There is a thread in the transportation area where people have seen families separated who didn't pay for seats and people wouldn't move for them. Just add the cost of the seat assignments in and see how that compares with other flights (also the baggage fees).

Have fun....

Ah, I did not factor in that cost, so thanks! Definitely worth the minimal fee to make sure we can sit together

I've used them several times and never had issues with them. Now that they are owned by Southwest, they will be even better!

idk about AT specifically, but that seems pretty good to me. we're flying down SW next month from MD and are paying almost $900 for 3 of us.

They are like any other airline, if you fly often you will eventually have an issue with all of them. I think it's a great price for December

We plan to fly with them the first time in January. My MIL travels a lot from Mich to Fla and said if we can get tickets for $200 to just go ahead and book cause that is a "good" rate for nonstop from grand rapids to orlando. GL!

We are staying at the POR. Flying in on Dec. 14 !!

Your price you have WONDERFUL. We went threw priceline, out of Alexandria , La, to Houston then to Orlando. roundtrip,,,$1700...sigh

Thanks so much for the feedback! Much appreciated!

Disneydad, we'll be there Dec 11-16th. Staying in Boardwalk Villas. Can't wait!

We used Air Tran 2 years ago (tickets from Detroit to Orlando were $150 then) and we had no problem with them. $200 seems like a good rate, I have not found anything cheaper than that. We are flying out of Detroit and I found Delta to be the cheapest at the moment.
