I'm in search of books for a 14 yer old girl who is periodically unhappy with her body. She's tall and literally average wegiht for her height, but every now and then she gets upset that she is not skinny. This is not a big deal (yet?) but I'm wondering if there are any good books out there that might help?

Thanks!

I don't have any recommendations, but how about asking her guidance counselor at school? Our counselors come to our PTA meetings pretty regularly, and they talk about this issue quite often. Maybe they can give you some suggestions.

Good for you, mom for seeing that this is an important issue for her, and that it should be addressed.

There are a couple of good ones from American Girl. One is called "Real Beauty" and I know there are others. They sell them on Amazon and often they have 2 together for a discount. I would check out Amazon and read the reviews and the excerpts from the books.

American Girl books are very good and hammer home the idea that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and also comes from within. They do also emphasize a healthy life style.

Good luck!

I really like the American Girl doll books, too. DD has the "Care and Keeping of You" that she reads through on occasion. You can get the books at a bookstore, you don't need to order them from the AG website.
