Golf Carts

Ours is an 2004 club car we paid $2400 which included the raised wheels, big wheels, chrome rims, custom dash, a detachable roof (for traveling in our enclosed trailer) and probably some other things that my husband and son did. The only other money we put into it was a larger engine to go faster. It is electric. Now I would like to change it to gator blue and orange.
Also the difference in gas vs elect is that gas goes faster but a lot of campgrounds do not allow gas, the fort does not but you will still see gas golf carts there I guess it is not enforced.

Electric golf carts......

Great point...Why won't the fort enforce this simple rule.....

The noise, emissions, size, etc.....electic eliminates all these....:wave2:

I agree, they should enforce the rule, but I have seen some electric carts that were HUGEEEEEEEEEEE.....lol

Nowing a little about electric power it is very difficult to get alot of horse power out of an electric cart...

746watt/1hp..........more horsies...... more batteries

Thats why you see the larger carts going to gas.....and all the problems that go with them...

1. high speed

2. noise

3. emissions

4. and my favorite "THEY ARE AGAINST THE RULES"

That is an electric golf cart ;) With enough battery power, you can do whatever you want. Of course, gasoline will always be able to go faster and go bigger, that is correct. But you can still get some monster carts on electric.

We all know they are against the rules, that is nothing new. Lots of stuff is against the rules, oh well, we can't do anything about it, only Disney can, and they don't seem to care that much.

I purchased a used Yamaha in fairly good shape for $900.00 and then rebuilt it from the ground up including a high speed motor kit. Everything is new except the frame which I cleaned up, sanded and then line-x'd and the body which I had painted. Most stuff came from Buggiesunlimited but not all. I put a 6" lift, new tires and rims, high speed motor kit, rear seat, new shocks front and rear, nerf bars, grill guard, sterring wheel and clumn, lights, diamond plate aluminum heel guard, batteries, 2" wheel spacers, fender flares, windshield, rear view mirror, car horn, musical horn, digital neon lights. Here are the before and after pics:

Wow!!! Great job Big Kahuna, that is one SWEEEEEEEEEEEET looking cart, I would feel like a king riding around in that sucker.

Great job, I'm sure you love telling people all about the work you put into it, it really is a gorgeous looking cart.

Enforcing the gas rule I feel is coming.....I think ya did the right thing buying electic..:flower2:

We saw a golf cart while we were there that had undercarraige lights, an awesome paint job, a dvd player and sound system with speakers. Why anyone needs a dvd player on a golf cart I have no idea...but the sound system was neat.

We loved seeing all the creative ways that people decorated their rented carts too.

And we also noticed teens out joy riding at night..doing donuts and squealing the tires. Saw several skateboarders hanging on the backs of them. And we did run into several gas powered ones.

Well, if you have the money, I say DVD player all the way! It's the same for people that have them in their car yet only drive themselves 3 minutes a day to and from work....lol.

I saw one once that had a DVD player playing The Lion King and the sound was coming out through the speakers, the kids loved that one!

We also love decorating our cart, at Thanskgiving we go all out with lights and garland, it's tons of fun.

Great job on the golf cart.

We have lights under ours it is fun to do that.

You can up your engine to get more power we did ours will go 25mph to 30mph and that is fast enough.

They need to enforce the kids driving the golf carts my son has waited a long time to be able to drive ours he is now 16, we made him wait and abide by the ruled. It is a matter of safety. The kids drive wild and I have seen kids go flying off of them. As a matter of fact there was an accident this past spring involving an underage child driving the cart at night smashed right into a car. Plus the kids load them down with all there friends.

Oh well not much I can do about it but make sure my children are doing the right thing and are safe. I do let him go by bike or foot where he wants to in the Fort. Of course he is a teenager so that makes a difference as well and cell phone must be with him at all times.

I think that is fun and great but I would not do it I would be worried that it would get stolen.

I'm sure there must be some kind of lock system for the DVD, and hopefully someone would notice if someone was trying to pry a DVD player out of a golf cart!

out of curiousity, what might a used cart, in decent shape, cost?

is there a big cost difference between gas and electric?

I wasn't finding much difference between price in electric or gas..mostly it's preference. I would have preferred electric, just because they are quieter..but I did find a gas one in good shape, that isn't loud. For the price..I wasn't passing it up. I wasn't in any rush..and decided the middle man in the area..the dealer that bought..refurbished them and then resold them was a bit to expensive.
Although we own a collision repair shop..and I didn't see the need to pay someone else for work we could easily do ourselves.;)
I did a search for golf courses in the area upstate NY where we vacation. Found that many of the courses now lease their carts and replace them every few years. Others ...still own their carts. When it's time to get rid of them they usually trade the lot of them to a company that restores..and then re-sells them to the public. Adding the rear seats..and windshields..and making mechanical repairs. However I decided to e-mail every golf course within a 2 hour drive of where we camped. When I was about to give up..I received an e-mail back from a a golf course that was actually in the middle of a change of ownership.(and only about 20 mintues away!) :) I had to wait for the new management to take over...and then they sold us one of the carts. We had our pick. They were all going to be replaced with newer electric carts. We have a Yamaha gas cart. I will also say...we got a good buy. $500.00 for ours. We made this arrangement in Sept. but had to wait for October for new ownership to take effect..and the close of the golfing season. During that time...new management had quite a few other people expressing interest because of the low cost quoted ..and they came to learn pretty quickly that they could have easily charged us two to three times what they quoted. We were preparing ourselves to be "hit up" for more money when the time of pick up occured..however, they were true to their word and gave it to us for the price originally quoted.(and remined us of that several times!:rolleyes1 ) They also were aware that many in our camping resort golf..and they were trying to sell club memberships. I think that raising the price upon time of pick up probably wasn't going to drum up a lot of good will. We thought it was almost to good to be true..you know what they say...however, we figured for the price..we'd take the chance. We've had the cart looked at and mechanically it has needed little repair..and for Christmas my kids all ordered different parts and seats, and brakes, lights..and windshields..and a lockable woodtone dash..you name it. I opened the boxes and saw..just parts..as if I don't see enough of that at work..and quickly realized they were for "mom's cart"..They are sort of doing a "Trick my Cart" on it. The hubby has it all set for paint..and I have to decide on a color.:confused3 After seeing some the wonderful graphics on the trailers appearing in the site posting thread here on the board..I think I'm going with a Disney theme.:earsboy: Fort Wilderness of course! The choices are endless..you could go crazy with them. Or you could just clean one up..and leave it the way it is. For the most part.. that's what I've seen in our campground. Folks are just looking for a way to get around without taking the car out. It's pretty big..and the seasonal sites are removed from the pool and check-in/office area. I love Buggies Unlimited catalog! I NEVER knew there was such an interest in refurbishing golf carts. It's quite remarkable. I can't believe the pictures I've seen of carts here and other board.

Now let me ask...I'm confused are gas carts..not permited in FW..I don't remember reading this. I thought it was gas scooters..not golf carts. Doesn't effect me either way..since I wouldn't be bringing our cart to FW ..I'd likely rent one from the outside agency when we visit the Fort. However I am curious:confused3

Kahuna, how long did it take you to put that golf cart all together?

For the person who posted no more private golf carts her you go....

Disney will not stop private golf carts and for good reason, many of there campers are regulars and of full timers, also a lot of us campers who do a lot of camping have our own golf carts it just goes with camping to take this away would certainly upset way too many people. Disney has added more golf carts to there fleet and they still run out. I would suggest anyone wanting a golf cart from Disney you better reserve at time of your reservations or you may be dissappointed when you get there that they are all rented out.
We have our own.
I do think it should be limited to electric only the gas ones smell really bad and can be load. But I am in favor of all golf carts.
Love RV'ing and gotta have one of those golf carts.

Just curious............... would you or anyone else give up the fort if they disallowed private carts????:snail:

Thanks everyone! It really did not take as long as I thought. The new high speed motor kit came with complete instructions and photos as did most of all the stuff. The hardest parts were the lift kit and the cutting out the lights using my rotozip. That sucker wants to keep zipping. The cutouts look ugly but the lights hide it, thankfully. I would say it took a few good weekends to do everything. I ordered everything and had it all on hand before I started though. It also helps to have a friend in the paint & body business to paint the cart for you.:thumbsup2

Someone posted the Golf Cart rules on here a little while ago. I will see if I can find them and post the link. I don't think FW differentiates between electric or gas golf carts.

I would consider somewhere else if they didn't allow private carts. At $47 a day they have nerve. If I come 10-15 nights a year, that's a lot of cash.
