Do airlines typically allow you to check golf clubs in a travel bag without any additional charge?

I've never been charged extra as long as it is one of my allowed bags. Most will load and unload them separate from the luggage carousel. At MCO, you pick them up over by the roll-up doors nearest your carousel side.

I'd suggest a hard case for the bag, not a soft case as the longer woods can get damaged in handling and you wouldn't want that as an excuse why your drives keep going right :)

Yes, they will allow you to check your clubs (as long as there in a traveling case) free of charge
