is there much of a difference in the receptions? We made gold recently with a cruise on the Magic. In that reception there seemed to be several officers m, the captain spoke and there was a stage with a backdrop for pictures with Mickey

Our next cruise was on the Wonder and that reception was very low key. Only a couple officers, no comments from the captain and Mickey just walked to each table Again very low key and no big deal

Our next cruise is on the Dream and we're just curious what that reception will be like

Part of me wonders if the first one seemed like a bigger deal because it was the first. But then there was a difference in content also

Thanks for any comments

I would think it depends on how many gold/platinum is cruising. The more gold/platinum the more officers they will have there. Just a guess.

We did the reception, on our first "gold" cruise, we weren't really impressed with it to us, it was just "meh".
We are now platinum and haven't done another one since.

We feel there are so many other things to do than go and sit in there for what was just a "DCL commercial".

The CC receptions we have been to have had LOTS of members as well as officers, the Captain and meet and greets with Mickey and Minnie.
There was a nice mix of Gold and Platinum members and it seemed really well attended. We liked the refreshments and my son loved the rice krispie treats. :) ... (okay, so did I) That right there was the selling point for him to go to them. lol

Yes, it is a big Disney Cruise Line commercial, but we didn't feel it took too much time out of our trip. Of course, with the May cruise only being 4 days, we might skip it. :) A few less days than usual, so priorities change a bit. :)

It can vary like that. Most of our receptions were pretty full, with lots of officers circulating. And the captain gave a little speech. Photo op with characters sometimes. And, of course, the video advertising how great DCL is.

Our most recent one (on the Wonder), was much more laid back. Just some little appetizers service and about 5 officers. No captain, no video showing all the great things DCL is going to do.

Is the general rule still that they offer the reception on the 2nd sea day?

I think we had it on the first sea day on our Fantasy cruises in 2014. I'd have to check our scrapbooks to make sure.

OK -- On our Hawaii cruise it was the 2d sea day. On Our Dream (4 night) it was on the only sea day (day 4). On the 2 Fantasy cruise it was the 1st sea day. And on our Baja cruise (5 night) it was day 2 (not a sea day).

We have been to some with only a dozen or so people and one so big they closed the family pool area and had it on deck. On deck they roped off the area, had different snack offerings (brought around on trays) and drinks, have not experienced anything that big again. Seems like the more guests interacting the more the Officers get into it. When people were just sitting at tables in Wavebands, they seemed to divide up and go table to table saying hello. We like hearing where people have been and which itineraries they enjoyed the most.

I'm newly Gold; how do I know when and where the reception is? Is an invitation left in my room?

I am a new gold member and I am so excited for this just because it's something new. I have to ask what sort of refreshments are served?

Light appetizers like shrimp cocktail, bruschetta and a few others. They will also have Mickey shaped Rice Krispies treats that are wrapped up. The ears were chocolate. Those were good

Yes, we were on the PC cruise in October and they held the CC reception up on Deck. It was quite nice but a bit breezy.

It can vary. The ones we have been to have only ever had cookies, cheese and fruit. Never seen shrimp, bruschetta, etc... We have done them on the Fantasy and Magic.

We were newly Gold and attended one on the Fantasy. Many officer's mingling/chatting with guests. The Captain spoke briefly and mentioned the 2 new ships that would be coming. Several servers roaming around - each with different appetizers on their tray - one with fruit, one with cookies, one with shrimp cocktail and other fancier appetizers, one with bruschetta and other stuff. I will say that if you weren't at your seat when a given server went by, it was quite a while before that server came around again, so it would be easy to "miss" something (i.e. the shrimp cocktail) if the server had just recently passed your seating area. For ours, they handed out the mickey-head rice crispy treats at the door as you left the reception (one per person only).

We've been gold for a few years now, but have never been to a Gold/Platinum reception. It may be that the invitation has always been during the times we had other plans.

Since our next cruise will be longer than 7nts, I'm going to make an effort to try and go to one.

I've only been to 7 nt cruises so I am only aware of just one reception. For those who've gone on longer cruises, do they offer more than one reception?

I can't remember- what time is the reception usually? It seems like I always schedule Palo brunch during it.

The reception we attended on the Wonder didn't even have the Mickey bars. The "event" was a real yawner and neither DH or I want to attend another one.
